[Bug 1882626] Re: libceres-dev Focal arm64 build failing with failed test

2020-06-16 Thread Emerson Knapp
Confirmed that I could install libceres-dev from "-proposed" on ARM64
Focal and successfully use it as a build dependency for reference
project Google Cartographer, which originally brought the missing
package to my attention.

[Bug 1882626] [NEW] libceres-dev Focal arm64 build failing with failed test

2020-06-08 Thread Emerson Knapp
Public bug reported:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ceres-
solver/1.14.0-4ubuntu1/+build/19091179

Trying to install libceres-dev after upgrading system from Bionic to
Focal, but the arm64 build is failing

I have also reported here https://github.com/ceres-solver/ceres-
solver/issues/599 - but not sure which is more appropriate (I don't know
if that GitHub project maintains the debian packaging builds)

It appears to be a single test failure that blocks the build

```
99% tests passed, 1 tests failed out of 127
Total Test time (real) = 267.25 sec
The following tests FAILED:
 30 - evaluation_callback_test (Failed)
```

[Bug 1834379] Re: armhf Bionic python3-pygraphviz package errors for simple use case

2019-06-27 Thread Emerson Knapp
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ python3-pygraphviz does not work for even simple use cases on armhf Bionic.
See error output in Test Case section from adding an edge to a graph.
+
+ This package is currently being used as a dependency of ROS2, which is
+ now including armhf as a target platform. The functionality that depends
+ on this package fails
+
+ Conclusion from below testing is that the current package is somehow
+ corrupted.
+
+ A no-change rebuild in ppa:emersonknapp/ppa works properly on armhf.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
  Using the following test file, and running python3 test.py, the program
  raises an error. However program exits with no output as expected on
  x86_64 and aarch64

  ```
  # test.py
  #!/usr/bin/env python3
  import pygraphviz
  graph = pygraphviz.AGraph()
  graph.add_node('foo')
  graph.add_node('bar')
  graph.add_edge('foo', 'bar')
  ```

  Error seen

  ```
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pygraphviz/agraph.py", line 1561, in
__new__
  nh = gv.agnode(graph.handle, n.encode(graph.encoding), _Action.find)
  KeyError: 'agnode: no key'
  During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred:
  raise KeyError("Node %s not in graph." % n)
  KeyError: 'Node None not in graph.'
  ```

  If I upgrade to 1.5 via pip after installing the apt dependency
  libgraphviz-dev, this same snippet works on all of these platforms.

  It also works if I install pygraphviz 1.4rc1 from pip. Also, it seems to
  work with the debian package python3-pygraphviz 1.4 from cosmic. As far
  as I can tell, there are no differences between the cosmic and the
  bionic packages, other than it was rebuilt for Python 3.7.

  Here's a summary:

  Bionic1.4~rc1 Debian  Broken
  Cosmic1.4~rc1 Debian  Works
  Disco 1.5 Debian  Works
  Bionic1.4~rc1 pip Works
  Bionic1.5 pip Works

  And one more data point; if I pull down the debian sources (apt-get
  source python3-pygraphviz ; apt-get build-dep python3-pygraphviz), build
  with no modifications (debuild -uc -us), and then install (dpkg -i
  python3-pygraphviz_1.4~rc1-1build2_armhf.deb), it works just fine.

  From all of this, I can only conclude that the Ubuntu Bionic armhf
  debian package is somehow corrupt. Perhaps a rebuild of the package
  would solve the problem.

+ [Regression Potential]
+ This package doesn't currently seem to work at all, so I don't see how it
could get worse.

2019-06-27 Thread Emerson Knapp
Ok - I created a PPA and did a no-change rebuild (correctly to the best
of my knowledge, this is my first time uploading to a PPA)

Build:
https://launchpad.net/~emersonknapp/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/17197601

If I use that build, the test file works now.

```
add-apt-repository ppa:emersonknapp/ppa
apt-get update
apt-get install -y python3-pygraphviz
python3 test.py
```

Seems pretty conclusive - what are the next steps?

Cups version: 1.7.5-11+deb

I'm puzzled to see the cups version is higher than the fixed one.
Regression or different issue?

[Bug 1363719] Re: efibootmgr may create a duplicated boot entry, breaking UEFI boot.

2015-02-24 Thread Chris Emerson
Hi,

I've just installed the proposed efibootmgr package
(0.7.0-2ubuntu0.14.10.1), and run sudo update-grub and sudo grub-
install /dev/sda (as above), and then the system rebooted fine.

Is that enough to check efibootmgr, or do I need to do something else
too?

Chris

2015-02-12 Thread Chris Emerson
Hi Alberto,

Are you asking the reporter or someone else to report this upstream?
What's the relationship of the Red Hat installer to the ubuntu
installer? (As far as I can tell the bug has already been fixed months
ago in upstream efibootmgr)

Regards,

Chris

[Bug 1387654] Re: installing or upgrading to Ubuntu 14.10 kills Boot Manager on ThinkPad W540

2014-12-01 Thread Chris Emerson
That's right - I installed the older package from a 14.04 live
DVD/chroot, and used sudo aptitude hold efibootmgr to stop it being
updated to the broken version.

There may be simpler way of doing the live/chroot way, but I had to do a
bunch of bind mounts into the mounted fs (eg for /dev, /proc, /boot,
etc.) before chroot. If you're having problems I can try to recreate
and write down all the steps (but it might take a few days for me to get
around to it).

[Bug 1387654] Re: installing or upgrading to Ubuntu 14.10 kills Boot Manager on ThinkPad W540

2014-11-01 Thread Chris Emerson
I had exactly the same problem on my W540.

I think it's an efibootmgr issue:
https://github.com/vathpela/efibootmgr/issues/7

I fixed it from a live CD by manually downgrading the efibootmgr
package to 0.5.4-7ubuntu1 (ie the one from 14.04 that was previously
working) and rerunning grub-install /dev/sda, grub-install --recheck
/dev/sda and update-grub from a chroot.

The function wizard will not launch in LibreOffice 4.0 in the Base

[Bug 371897]

2012-10-16 Thread Emerson Prado
Aside from political stuff, I guess we all agree we need traction in this
feature.
If I got it correctly, Maarten has a fully functional patch, but it can't be
reviewed because of its size and non-technical reasons already enough
discussed. Also, Andrew seems to be working on the same thing, but apart from
Maarten, having unnecessary additional work.

So there are two steps needed:
1.Small, punctual patches from Maarten, which can be reviewed one at a time, be
accepted and improve both Pulse support state and Maarten reputation. Maarten
said he already worked in splitting the patch before, so there's already a way
to go.
2.Willingness from Wine devs to review Maarten patches. Andrew already said
that's OK, so no issue.

Is that road possible? Is there help needed?

2012-06-23 Thread Emerson Hsieh
Public bug reported:

When I click the Installing Ubuntu link in the official Ubuntu 12.04

2012-05-14 Thread Emerson Hsieh
Sometimes Ubuntu shows the low-res boot screen without the dots moving
(forever).

But when my ubuntu box showed the screen that you attached when shutting
down, it doesn't take forever.

And after I removed the fglrx drivers the same problem persists.

[Bug 995184] [NEW] Cannot install ATI post-release-update Driver

2012-05-05 Thread Emerson Hsieh
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu 12.04, I went to jockey and checked for and
Proprietary Drivers.

There was 2 options: ATI FGLRX Driver(post-release-update) and the ATI
FGLRX driver(without anything).

I tried installing the post-release-update one. After about 10 minutes,
it said:

Sorry, installation of this driver failed.
Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log

I went to /var/log then opened jockey.log . It was about 200 lines
long(didn't know what it was talking about). So I installed the second
option and it causes the system to become unstable(ugly boot screen,
shutting down takes forever)

(linux-image-3.4.0-999-generic_3.4.0-999.201204170501_amd64.deb).

This still affects me with the Precise beta.

The kernel fix mentioned in
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1274203 sounds promising...

[Bug 659434] Re: Font/image corruption after resume from hibernate

2012-04-17 Thread Chris Emerson
Yep - I've installed the mainline kernel and will report back after the
next few hibernates.

Which information from the DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume is
actually useful? That seems mainly geared at problems where the system
doesn't manage to resume.

In answer to the questions in the Information Gathering section:

* Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up?
  - I don't know; some images are corrupted *somewhere* in the process.
* Is it reproducible?
  - Yes, after most resume-from-hibernate there is some visible corruption of
the background and/or some characters.
* Did it work before?
  - Yes, but it's now so long ago I don't know when it started going wrong,
sorry.

The rest of the questions look like there's really about a failure to
resume - resume's working fine apart from the corruption.

[Bug 659434] [NEW] Font/image corruption after resume from hibernate

2010-10-12 Thread Chris Emerson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Since updating to Maverick I've noticed that the display becomes
somewhat corrupted after resuming from hibernate on my laptop. It looks
like the X server's cached images have become corrupt (guess!). It
starts out small, but after a few cycles text becomes totally
unreadable.

* It's mostly text which is corrupt, and each instance of the same character
looks similarly garbled
* All applications are affected - eg terminal, Firefox, chromium, apport-gtk,
the GNOME menus
* Changing the font (eg by changing to Monochrome from Best shapes in the
Appearance Settings-Font makes many things look better, but revert to being
unreadable after switching back
* Changing the font size in the application (terminal, Firefox) also
temporarily fixes the issue
* Some images in Firefox also become garbled, but recover after a forced reload.

Let me know what I can do to further diagnose the issue; I'm happy to
run stuff in a debugger etc. but am not familiar with the X server etc.

[Bug 481432] Re: [Lucid] wireless connection keeps dropping - WPA TKIP

2010-08-20 Thread Emerson Prado
Me too with 10.04 (I can't get used to the fancy names), kernel
2.6.32-24-generic, manual configuration thru /etc/network/interfaces (no NM or
other), D-Link DWL-G510 card (Ralink RT2561/RT61 chipset) and ECS M810LR 7.1a
mobo (SiS730S chipset). I'm using a WEP protected network, in managed mode,
in an office with half a dozen Windoze machines. All of them connect well.
Connection just drops after a long while sitting idle (probably less than an
hour). ifdown and ifup bring it back to life, just to fall again later.

This computer used to have Win 2k and a TrendNet TEW-228PI wireless
card. Then I installed Ubuntu 6.06, then upgraded to 8.04, and it was
OK. I wanted to test 10.04 but the TrendNet board is unsupported and I
didn't want to use ndiswrapper. So both the card and the OS were changed
at once. Then it became unstable.

The signal is also quite low. I got -60dBm here, while another machine,
twice as far from the router and in a less favourable angle, is around
-50dBm. It definitely seems 10.04 (probably 9.10 too) is messing the
signal. Would it be the kernel driver?

Thinking about downgrading to 8.XX or 9.04.
Best regards all,
Emerson

[Bug 568262] Re: programs disappear from the applet

2010-05-25 Thread Emerson Mello
Look at my applet indicator. I used a orange line to stress the bug.
