[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-03-31 Thread eric shell
this bug also affects dell inspiron-13-7352

i had a problem where i needed to update my bios, but this bug kept me
from being able to make any bios changes until i installed the older
kernel. obviously a bug with the kernel that came with 17.10.

2018-03-31 Thread eric shell
ive tried with updates a09 and a10 as well with the same results. i also
noticed that changes to the bios will frequently not save (i added a hdd
password, it saved successfully, but while trying to remove it until my
bios is fixed, it saves, then on reboot, the change is reverted..)

[Bug 1757021] Re: ubuntu restarts on resume from hibernate

2018-03-31 Thread eric shell
can't seem to update bios from a08 to a11. following the instructions
here: http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln171755/updating-
the-dell-bios-in-linux-and-ubuntu-environments?lang=en

it starts running the interactive shell, then i see a square prompt with
a red header flash by too quick to read and the computer restarts
without flashing the bios. i have yet to figure out what the problem is.
(i've upgraded the bios before this way without trouble..)

[Bug 1757021] [NEW] ubuntu restarts on resume from hibernate

2018-03-19 Thread eric shell
Public bug reported:

Whenever I sleep the computer, upon waking/opening the lid, it reboots.
I tried Xorg instead of Wayland, gdm3 instead of lightdm, adding
"GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_sleep=nonvs"" to
/etc/default/grub. Nothing seems to help. I believe this started after
updating to 17.10.
