[Bug 1942308] Re: IOT instruction (core dumped) when starting

2021-09-04 Thread Menno Finlay-Smits
It turns out this is due to some weird interaction with the alacritty
snap (https://snapcraft.io/alacritty). evince wasn't the only software
to do this. Other GUI apps such as nautilus and eog when started from
the terminal did the same thing.

Closing this.

[Bug 1879633] Re: Killer 500s (QCA6390) WLAN/BT [17cb:1101] unavailable

2021-01-04 Thread Finlay Thompson
Hi Again

I have a XPS13 that needs a working ath11k driver, and I would like to
try the fixes reported here.

What is the recommended approach? (I am happy to reinstall from
scratch).

Thanks for all your work!

Okay, install went better: now I am running the 5.10.0-2005-oem kernel
okay.

And the wifi settings show up in menus properly.

However, it did not manage to connect to my wifi router:

```
Is the message from syslog.
[Bug 1879633] Re: Killer 500s (QCA6390) WLAN/BT [17cb:1101] unavailable
2020-12-23 Thread Finlay Thompson
Hi Everyone
I have an XPS 13 9310, with the QCA6390 wifi/bt chipset.
After installing 20.04, I installed the 5.10.2 kernel - no luck
Then I found this bug report, and tried installing the ppa version for
5.10.0-2005, and the firmware.
I can boot into the new kernel, but it locks up, fairly randomly.
My next plan is to re-install from scratch, and just install the
5.10.0-2005 version from the ppa.
Please let me know if there is anything else you would like me to try.
Fun christmas break fixing
[Bug 374846] [NEW] sound stutters on toshiba satellite pro with ac97
2009-05-11 Thread finlay
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
On upgrade to ubuntu jaunty jackalope 9.4 sound has begun to stutter
intermittently.  This can be either startup sound or when playing an MP3
also followed the instructions from the sticky on comprehensive
[Bug 317728] Re: iwl3945: no space for tx, Error sending REPLY_LEDS_CMD: iwl3945_enqueue_hcmd failed: -28
2009-02-02 Thread Finlay Thompson
Just wanted to confirm that I had this problem for the first time this
morning.
I'm running Intrepid, totally up to date. It started swapping on my
computer, making it completely unusable.
Note that I have an encrypted disk, so when things start going wrong,
they go really slow!
Anyway, attached the output from
$ grep iwl3945 /var/log/syslog > iwl3945.log
[Bug 212604] Re: mythfrontend fails to handle session options
2008-09-02 Thread finlay
The previous now deleted patch does not fix the problem anymore. Instead
the attached patch must be used to fix the problem.
[Bug 217792] Re: MIT-Scheme will not launch
2008-05-04 Thread Finlay McWalter
Chris Hanson, the package maintainer, explains the cause of this problem
and gives a workaround at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4868292
He attributes the problem to a clash between MIT-scheme's allocator and
AppArmor.
[Bug 25931] Re: Failed to initalize HAL.
2008-04-30 Thread finlay
After upgrading from gutsy to hardy I experienced this problem of hald
not starting and avahi-daemon also not starting. I redid the symlinks
for hal (12->24) and gdm (13->30) but that didn't cure the problem.
Starting hald manually indicated that it was failing while trying to
open /usr/local/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket. In desperation I
symlinked /usr/local/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket to
/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket. That seemed to cure my problem. I don't
know why /usr/local/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket is needed.
[Bug 213745] Re: PDF pages appear extremely small in evince
2008-04-10 Thread Finlay Thompson
Rebooting after the update fixed everything for me...
Just an aside, the same problem had broken R (statistics package), well
at least the X11 display of plots.
Thats fixed too.
Thanks to everyone who made this bug disappear so fast!
[Bug 213745] Re: PDF pages appear extremely small in evince
2008-04-08 Thread Finlay Thompson
Just thought I would add a Me too to this bug.
I have the same problem. I was using evince successfully yesterday, but
now its not working right.
BTW, I get the same problem if I use evince locally or over a ssh -X
connection. That implies that its something up with the GTK layer ? (is
not sure about that)
I hope this gets fixed really soon!
[Bug 212604] [NEW] mythfrontend fails to handle session options
2008-04-05 Thread finlay
Public bug reported:
The /usr/bin/mythfrontend (linked to /usr/share/mythtv/mythfrontend.sh)
in the mythtv-frontend binary package fails to pass on options correctly
from the /etc/mythtv/session-settings files when invoked using the
--service option. The fix to /usr/share/mythtv/mythfrontend.sh is
attached.
Ubuntu 7.10
Mythbuntu 7.10
[Bug 201487] Re: Firefox uses the wrong DPI
2008-03-29 Thread Finlay Thompson
I had the same problem.
I noticed it with websites that defined fonts in points (including this
one).
Changing the 'layout.css.dpi' to 96 fixed the problem.
