[Bug 768145] Re: Plymouth boot logo corrupted - shows white vertical stripes

2011-11-04 Thread fishears
If I use startupmanager to change the boot resolution to match my
desktop resolution this problem goes away. Does this information help?

[Bug 885689] [NEW] ubuntuone-control-panel does not display my account or options

2011-11-03 Thread fishears
Public bug reported:

The ubuntuone control panel fails to display data on any of the tabs except for

from that state.
File sync does but that is all.

[Bug 879793] Re: No GTK theme applied on login, should be Ambiance

2011-10-27 Thread fishears
I just found this bug report after experiencing the same problem in 11.04
Seeing that gnome-settings-daemon throws an error I tried killall
gnome-settings-daemon and after a short pause, my expected theme reappeared. I
didn't even have to log out.
Maybe this will help others until a fix is found.

[Bug 761465] Re: Dash: Thunderbird/Email highlight box is mis-aligned with smaller icon

2011-04-22 Thread fishears
It's the solution of choice for the Launcher - try setting your Launcher
icon size to 64 and it will happily scale Thunderbird up that level.
Surely a touch of anti-aliasing could appease the nay sayers...

It just seems like a better, more unified (pun intended) solution than
having one tiny icon in the row.

My last idea on this (before I go on holiday) is to have a stock mail
icon that is used where no suitable sized icon exists for the preferred
client.

NVIDIA GeForce 6200 video card.

When booting I see white vertical stripes on screen in place of either the
plymouth ubuntu text or the plymouth ubuntu logo. I have attached a photo of
the screen at boot. It looks like it is the plymouth text theme that is being
used and indeed if I remove plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text my system boots with
just a black screen until login.
The same behaviour is exhibited during shutdown.

[Bug 751175] Re: Time and Date Settings don't load (Natty Beta 1)

2011-04-15 Thread fishears
After being logged in for a few hours today, I just checked the
indicator-datetime-process with
 ps ax | grep indicator-datetime-preferences

and got the following (showing that the process is not running) :
  3287 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto indicator-datetime-preferences

then I clicked on indicator-datetime, Time Date Settings and no settings
appeared so I repeat the process check and get:
 3289 ?Sl 0:00 indicator-datetime-preferences
 3292 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto indicator-datetime-preferences

Which shows that it is now running even though there is no GUI...

So I do:
 kill 3289

and then click on indicator-datetime, Time Date Settings and this
time the settings appear as expected and indeed continue to do so
throughout the current session. So could it be just the first launch
that is the problem?

[Bug 754359] Re: Clicking Time Date in Control Centre or Time Date Settings in clock indicator does nothing

2011-04-12 Thread fishears
OK, I just tried this scenario again and the settings window did NOT appear
when I clicked Time Date.
So I re-ran the process status command you gave me and got this:

jb@jb-K7S41:~$ ps ax | grep indicator-datetime
 1728 ?SLl0:00
/usr/lib/indicator-datetime/indicator-datetime-service
 1849 ?Sl 0:00 indicator-datetime-preferences
 1922 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto indicator-datetime

Which does show it already running. So I did a kill 1849 and tried
clicking Time Date again and this time it launched.

I suppose this means this IS a duplicate of bug #751175...

This is the result:

I click on the Ubuntu Icon (top left) and the Search Shortcuts Lens
appears. Click Check Email and the system launches Evolution. I have
Thunderbird installed and set as my Mail Reader in Preferred
Applications so I would expect Thunderbird to be launched rather than
Evolution.

Clicking the icon for Time Date causes a busy mouse for a few seconds but
no settings window is opened. Nothing happens. When I click Time Date
Settings... in the Clock Indicator, the result is the same.

[Bug 754359] Re: Clicking Time Date in Control Centre or Time Date Settings in clock indicator does nothing

2011-04-08 Thread fishears
attaching backtrace for gnome-control-center. The app doesn't crash when
I click Time Date it just goes busy but no settings window is
launched so not sure if this causes a backtrace. Anyway, what I'm saying
is the backtrace contains two runs: the first one I exited gnome-
control-center with the close button (because it does not crash), the
second I used ctrl+c in GDB after the mouse had stopped being busy...
HTH

[Bug 726658] Re: appmenu menu items only appear on mouseover

2011-03-27 Thread fishears
I'm also affected by this. I'm running Alpha 3 (fully up to date)
2.6.38-7 on athlon i386 with an NVidia GeForce 6200 (nvidia-current
270.30-0ubuntu3)

This bug appears with the Applications Menu and with the new Files
Folders Menu. The resultant panel from clicking one of these menus is
usually completely black but occasionally partially populated with
icons. In either case, moving the mouse over the panel causes missing
icons to appear.

I'm happy to provide more assistance if necessary.

[Bug 88090] Re: [apport] evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in ect_check()

2010-11-12 Thread fishears
I just reported bug 674094 which has been marked as a duplicate of this
bug which is now getting close to 4 years old. I appreciate that there
is a workaround for people who don't need assistive technologies on
their desktop but I'm amazed that this bug is taking so long to fix.
This is the default Ubuntu mail client after all.
