[Bug 489397] Re: Brightness adjustment goes crazy on Dell Inspiron 1370

2013-04-16 Thread floren
Hello,

Carsten's workaround (acpi_backlight=vendor in grub.conf) works fine in
my laptop only if I use kubuntu-desktop with KDM. With lightdm and
kubuntu-desktop not works, and with gdm or lightdm with unity not works
too.

I have A03 bios version and I use default video drivers (not nvidia
proprietary drivers).

Regards,

Floren.

[Bug 779589] [NEW] Ubuntu server 11.04 amd64 does not detect uefi

2011-05-08 Thread Floren van Olden
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub-installer

Installed Ubuntu server 11.04 amd64 on an Intel D510MO with Uefi enabled
on a 2TB harddisk, no boot.

The installer installs grub-pc in the last stage of the installation.
Because the disc is to big for regular boot it will be unbootable even
after disabling UEFI.

Are there suggested work arounds or parameters I can give te installer
to force installation of grub-EFI?

disc layout:
/dev/sda
1 mb grub
1,98 TB / btrfs
2 GB swap

[Bug 774502] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 initrd fails to boot mult-volume BTRFS filesystem

2011-05-07 Thread Floren van Olden
Had a similar problem, got fixed by using UUID in grub fstab, no extra
options like mount=device=/dev/sda2,device=/dev/sdb2 required.

Used btrfs as / for Ubuntu server 11.04.

Example:
#btrfs device add /dev/sdb1 /
#btrfs filesystem balance
#btrfs filesystem show
Check if UUID is the same as in /etc/fstab grub2.
#reboot

works!

[Bug 582427] Re: cdrom-detect fails when using usb storage as install device

2010-12-07 Thread Floren van Olden
The cdrom-detect/try-usb=true functionality differs on different USB
drivers. On my Kingston DATATraveler 1 GB it does not work at all, but
on a Dane Elec 4 GB device it hangs later in the process (Failed loading
installer components from CD).

I'am trying this on an INTEL D510MO installing Ubuntu 10.10 server
release. Same problem using both Universal USB installer Unetbootin
from windows on a vFat usb stick.

2010-12-07 Thread Floren van Olden
11.04 fixes the issues in at least the the daily server x86_64 builds. I
now only have a bug with booting afterwards, but this could be bios
related and is an entirely diffrent bug

2010-12-06 Thread Floren van Olden
Ubuntu Server 10.10 release final still has the bug. cdrom-detect/try-
usb=true suggested work around does not work with both Ubuntu USB-
Creator Unetbootin.

Tried on various machines both i386 and AMD64
