[Bug 2051838] Re: /usr/libexec/gdm-wayland-session: Error: WaylandMessage::Write() too many files to send

2024-02-27 Thread Frederic Van Espen
This is probably the same issue:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2153594

I don't have the issue when I launch firefox like: MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0
firefox

MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 became the default in firefox 121.

[Bug 1943992] [NEW] PHPStorm crashes - ubuntu freezes

2021-09-17 Thread Frederic
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this is a kernel bug - most probably it is triggered by
using PHPStorm. Nevertheless the kernel should not die unexpectedly.

kernel: [12290.880045] general protection fault, probably for non-canonical
address 0x7fae90c2c5fac373: [#1] SMP NOPTI

Using
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

Every now and then (3-5 times a day) the laptop crashes. It never
happens if I don't use PHPStorm, so I think it is very related to the
use of that software.

2021-05-25 Thread Frederic
Public bug reported:

2nd display monitor (DVI) doesn't show any output until changes are applied on
that screen in display settings. Then on a reboot, changes aren't persistent so
it's to start over every time.
Issue appeared after kernel upgrade from 5.8.x to 5.12.6

[Bug 1871721] Re: Second Monitor on HDMI blank screen/blink screen with Nvidia + Intel & Ubuntu 20.04? (ASUS Laptop)

2021-05-24 Thread Frederic
I'm just facing this same issue since today after upgrading 20.04 kernel
from 5.8.x to 5.12.6-051206-generic.

Second screen is detected by Nvidia, but black. When I change down the
resolution from 1920x1080 to 1280x1024 the 2nd screen reappear. Then if
I put back 1920x1080, the screen keeps alive but the refresh rate
appears to 59hz in display settings, so screen is blinking. If I
manually put the refresh rate to 60hz, the screen works fine until the
next reboot. Then I have to start over.

GPU is Nvidia GTX1060 and driver is Nouveau. Proprietary drivers didn't
detects the 2nd screen at all.

[Bug 1810183] Re: numpad on touchpad doesn't work in ASUS Zenbook 14

2021-05-13 Thread Frederic Pageot
Well actually numpad backlight is really strange, it is working times to
times, no logic. Most f the time I am not able to have the backlight but
once in a while, I can enable it, but I really don't know how... If
someone has an idea... For the moment, I use the sticker which is
sypplied when you buy the computer, but it would be better to have the
light on and off.

[Bug 1810183] Re: numpad on touchpad doesn't work in ASUS Zenbook 14

2021-05-12 Thread Frederic Pageot
Well, I found, for my computer, the bus nuber is different :
numpad light on :
sudo i2ctransfer -f -y 14 w13@0x15 0x05 0x00 0x3d 0x03 0x06 0x00 0x07 0x00 0x0d
0x14 0x03 0x01 0xa

Numpad light off
sudo i2ctransfer -f -y 14 w13@0x15 0x05 0x00 0x3d 0x03 0x06 0x00 0x07 0x00 0x0d
0x14 0x03 0x00 0xad

But, is there a way to integrate this in the script to enable backlight
when activating the numpad and switch it off when deactivating ? I can
understand that this is difficult to do it universally because it seems
that we have different bus numbers for the light, but can I integrate
this in the script, and if yes, where in the script ?

Anyway, many thanks for this super job.

Fred

[Bug 1823053] Re: wpasupplicant 2.6 w/ openssl 1.1.1 triggers TLSv1.3 version intolerance on WPA2-Enterprise networks on Cosmic and Disco

2019-06-17 Thread Frederic Van Espen
It seems this is also applicable to ubuntu bionic since openssl 1.1.1
landed in bionic-updates. We have bionic clients that cannot connect to
the enterprise wifi because they attempt TLS 1.3. Recompiling openssl
with the "no-tls1_3" Configure option fixes the problem. See also

[Bug 1818638] Re: segfault on Samba v4.3.11-Ubuntu

2019-03-29 Thread Frederic BUISSON
Hi,
A few minutes ago (10:15), I had a crash.
This is the trace :

The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was
called for PID 20037 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows the state
of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log files may contain
additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the samba-dbg
package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba binaries. Then
submit the provided information as a bug report to Ubuntu by visiting this link:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+filebug

Andreas,
You can find the files attached.

I don't know if it's important, but for the connection I used this
configuration in smd.conf:
client min protocol = SMB2
client max protocol = SMB3_11
server min protocol = SMB2
server max protocol = SMB3_11

2019-03-06 Thread Frederic BUISSON
Hi,
This problem happens some days and I don't know how to reproduce it.
Since January, I had the segfault 8 times.
We are 4 users for this server only and we use it daily.
I have noticed the crash came from during office hours only and I know we have
mapped the samba drive as network drive. Maybe samba crash during connection,
disconnection or refresh of the network drive?

[Bug 1813923] [NEW] MERGED_USR=yes breaks debootstrap of updated xenial distrib

2019-01-30 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Public bug reported:

The latest change of MERGED_USR=yes in bionic is causing failure to
debootstrap an updated xenial chroot on bionic.

We have a mirror of ubuntu apt repositories where xenial, xenial-updates
and xenial-security are merged into one distribution called xenial-
updated-bootstrap. We do this to be able to debootstrap a fully up to
date chroot.

The debootstrap command looks like this:
debootstrap --arch=amd64 --components=main --include=SOME_PACKAGES
xenial-updated-bootstrap target/ http://mirror
/usr/share/debootstrap/scripts/xenial

This results in the debootstrap failing with these errors:
W: Failure while installing base packages. This will be re-attempted up to
five times.
W: See /data/foober/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for details (possibly the
package /var/cache/apt/archives/kbd_1.15.5-1ubuntu5_amd64.deb is at fault)
I: Unpacking kbd...
W: Failure while installing base packages. This will be re-attempted up to
five times.

W: Failure while installing base packages. This will be re-attempted up to
five times.

five times.
W: See /data/foober/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for details (possibly the
package /var/cache/apt/archives/kbd_1.15.5-1ubuntu5_amd64.deb is at fault)

In the debootstrap log I find these:
Unpacking kbd (1.15.5-1ubuntu5) ...
dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/kbd_1.15.5-1ubuntu5_amd64.deb (--unpack):
unable to open '/bin/dumpkeys.dpkg-new': No such file or directory
Unpacking libpng12-0:amd64 (1.2.54-1ubuntu1.1) ...
dpkg: error processing archive

unable to install new version of '/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng12.so.0': No
such file or directory

Even if I add --no-merged-usr option (which is supposed to be the
default according to the man page) the debootstrap fails.

The version previously available in bionic works fine to debootstrap the
updated xenial distribution.

[Bug 1745463] Re: Disabling systemd-resolved breaks dhclient resolvconf integration

2019-01-21 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Just clarifying that we don't use the resolvconf package either, but
just a plain static /etc/resolv.conf file.

[Bug 1745463] Re: Disabling systemd-resolved breaks dhclient resolvconf integration

2019-01-21 Thread Frederic Van Espen
I quite agree with @GeekSmith here. We disabled systemd-resolved on
bionic and install ifupdown instead since we install this on server that
have a static configuration and we don't want systemd-resolved to modify
anything in the resolv.conf file.

Only during the initial installation time of the server we use dhclient
to get an IP address. The result is that the resolv.conf file is not
modified by dhclient despite systemd-resolved being disabled. To work
around this issue, we simply deleted the /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-
hooks.d/resolved file as we don't need it anyway.

A cleaner way of course it to actually test in the file if systemd-
resolved is used, as @GeekSmith's patch does.

[Bug 1811861] Re: incorrect permissions on /var/log after debootstrap

2019-01-16 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Sorry for the noise, it seems this is not related to rsyslog after all.
In our install process we are moving /var/log to another partition
(mounted in /data/) and then symlink it to /var/log. Permissions are set
up properly and work while the system is running. When the system is
rebooted though there is an unknown process changing the permissions of
/data/log, my best guess something related to systemd.

When we bind mount /data/log in /var/log directory we don't have this
issue though.

[Bug 1811861] [NEW] incorrect permissions on /var/log after debootstrap

2019-01-15 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Public bug reported:

we are debootstrapping a full bionic distribution into a directory.
After debootstrapping the permissions on /var/log are incorrect, causing
rsyslog to fail because it cannot write into the directory to create the
various files.

Also, in the postinst of the rsyslog package I see that systemd-tmpfiles is
attempted to be used to create the files defined in
/usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/00rsyslog.conf, but from what I can tell this will never
work because of the systemd-tmpfiles manpage:
   --create
If this option is passed, all files and directories marked with f,
F, w, d, D, v, p, L, c, b, m in the configuration files are
created or written to. Files and directories marked with z, Z, t, T,
a, and A have their ownership, access mode and security
   labels set.

Since the files are configured with type "z" only ownership, access mode
and security will be updated.

[Bug 86536] Re: fails to resolve dependencies on virtual packages

2019-01-14 Thread Frederic Van Espen
Encountered this as well today. We are doing debootstrap of bionic with
an include of a package that depends on libnet-ssleay-perl, which
depends on virtual package perl-openssl-abi-1.1 which is provided by
perl-openssl-defaults.

as a workaround I have to exclicitely add perl-openssl-defaults in the
includes of the debootstrap.

I suggest Firefox to add an option to give users the choice of preferred

This freeze appears on each boot since the dist upgrade to 17.10 (from 17.04)
with the following kernel: linux-image-4.13.0-16-generic.
The ssh connexion becomes available after 3 to 5 minutes, and the login screen
after more than 20 minutes.

This issue doesn't show up in recovery mode.
This issue doesn't show up with the previous kernel (from 17.04):
linux-image-4.10.0-37-generic.

I Also tried the mainline drm-current:
linux-image-4.14.0-996-generic_4.14.0-996.201710202201_amd64.deb
The issue is not visible then, but I don't have ethernet access any longer
(which may be completely unrelated).

[Bug 1657867] Re: chmod 2750 on /var/log/mysql

2017-01-23 Thread Frederic Lebel
The thing is if the logrotate rotates the log file with mysql:adm, it
should be the same with default file created in this directory.
Especially if we want to use the concept of the group adm in the
directory /var/log/mysql for giving privileges to read log files..

This is maybe not a traditionnal bug, but, by design, the mysql service
should created file with mysql:adm like the logrotate profile for mysql,
and so on.

[Bug 1657867] [NEW] chmod 2750 on /var/log/mysql

2017-01-19 Thread Frederic Lebel
Public bug reported:

The /var/log/mysql from ubuntu 1604 has now the 755 permission with
mysql:adm. When we set up the slow log query inside the
/var/log/mysql/slow.log, it gets the mysql:mysql user/group instead of
having mysql:adm user/group.

Then, the users inside the adm group cannot check inside the log without
using root privileges.

Are there any reasons why this has been removed in 1604 : chmod 2750
/var/log/mysql ?

In ubuntu 1404:

[Bug 1409032] Re: gvfsd-smb: very high CPU utilisation

2016-05-06 Thread Frederic LEIRE
Here are what I found on my 2 PC machines. (sorry for my poor English)

To find the local machines on my lan I have edited the /etc/hosts file to add
the IP (fixe) of the PC on the network whith alias (ex: 127.0.0.1 localhost
192.0.168.0.10 server, etc...) and my IP NAS.
When I remove the IP of the NAS (whith a Samba & upnp server) ALL BECAME FINE
!!!

Check your hosts file. Also search what HOST gvfsd-smb-browse try to connect.
(pocessus view open files)
Good luck
FL

Re: [Bug 1502004] Re: cannot upgrade to ubuntu 14.10 from 13.10

2015-10-02 Thread Frederic Bonnet
The problem is that I am on a dual boot with windows 10 just being
updated. I want to keep both without break one or the other while the
update.

If you know how to update from usb or DVD without breaking the uefi or
ufi from windows and erasing everything on the Linux partition  I will
be very happy to ‎hear how to do it. That would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Frederic.

I also have this problem. I have a system using Windows 8.1 that I want
to convert to Ubuntu.

No devices are listed in the Installation Type screen. I have tried
the nodmraid option and still have the problem.

Booting using CD trying to install Ubuntu 14.10. Using Test Ubuntu
loads Ubuntu correctly.

[Bug 1290697] Re: Font rendering is broken

2014-11-27 Thread Frederic Defoy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1309785 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309785

I get this too. I was on ubuntu before using gedit and I allways tought
that the font rendering problem was an issue with Ubuntu itself, then I
switched to Xubuntu and was stuck with mousepad. Used it for a while,
didnt notice anything special about the font, I thought I was just used
to crappy font rendering. Then I got tired of mousepad and its lack of
features and installed gedit, i saw the problem RIGHT AWAY. I tought it
was just the font, so I set up the same font as mousepad Droid Sans Mono
11 and opened the same document side by side in both, and OMG i CANNOT
stand to look at gedit, it gives me the never ending feeling that I need
glasses...

I am sorry but whoever decided this was a low priority bug has its
priority in the wrong places.

I also only have one keyboard language installed (french canadian)

I'm not surprised this is happening. Canonical wastes to much time
trying to redefine the user interface and not enough making basic stuff
work like it should. This is only one of the hundreds of things that
should just work but doesn't.

This is exactly the kind of crap killing linux. How can you expect ppl
to switch over from other OSes when they have to deal with this kind of
issues? This is BASIC stuff, it needs to work flawlessly. You can just
have programs and windows magicly disappear like that.

Too many distros not enough time makes linux a poor os.

[Bug 1299290] Re: Window blank on connection, works on resize

2014-05-27 Thread Frederic Defoy
On 14.04 too and im also having this annoying problem.

I have tested ALL the settings and I think I figured out were the bug is.
Once you have a window open disable the toggle scaled mode option it will
make the content of the window appear immediatly.
And if you have remember last view mode for each connection option checked in
the preferences the scale mode will stay off and on subsequent connection you
will see the window content right away.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Fred.

I also have this problem and I figured out another work around.

BUT in my experience developers pay more attention to their github bug
tracker.

So please post here about this issue:

and read on for the workaround.

[Bug 883459]

2014-02-28 Thread Frederic-coiffier-k
I confirm too (kdepim 4.12.2 and akonadiserver 1.11.0). I can't find a
working solution : deleting ~/.local/share/akonadi, removing bogofilter
filters, delaying KMail start. Nothing can solve the problem. And the
problem is mainly due to a slow harddisk (due to a highload) or a slow
network connection.

[Bug 883459]

2014-01-24 Thread Frederic-coiffier-k
Still occurs in KDE 4.12.1 (Gentoo)...

I've just deleted my ~/.local/share/akonadi as mentionned in a comment above.
I'll see in the next days if it changes something...

I have also delayed the Kmail startup as the problem occurs often when
the whole KDE session is restored (in this case, the net connection can
be overloaded and emails download can be slow...).

[Bug 1250534] Re: Linker option -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions

2013-11-14 Thread Picca Frederic-Emmanuel
** Description changed:

  Hello Ubuntu team,

I am a user of the libtango8 package available in Ubuntu repository. Since
Ubuntu 13.10, this library is built with the option
-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions. This generates problems for this software. In
previous Ubuntu releases, it was not the case and the software worked nicely.

In its source package, in the debian/rules file, there is this line

  export DEB_LDFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions

which should prevent the use of this -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions option
when building the package but it seems that it is not true anymore.

  Is it a Ubuntu bug?
Is there something we can do with the package developpers?

  Any help welcome

[Bug 1250527] Re: libtango8 is not working

2013-11-12 Thread Picca Frederic-Emmanuel
tango MUST be build without the -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions LDFLAGS.

The debian/rules file contain

export DEB_LDFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP=-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions

We can see in the build log of tango that even with this directive this
LDFLAGS is still present during the build ???
