[Bug 1093612] Re: lubuntu shortcut not launch a terminal programs

2013-10-14 Thread garrison
A workaround:
Open Panel Settings and switch to Advanced. By default, the value of
Terminal Emulator is lxterminal -e , remove -e, then shortcuts should
work.

This is because another -e is added to the command so that the actual
command would be lxterminal -e -e

[Bug 894544] Re: action plugin regex failure

2011-11-28 Thread Garrison Hoffman
I spent an hour or so tinkering with python this morning (GMT-5), but
I'm learning as I go. It would be useful to know whether whether a
numeric value is returned by clipboard.wait_for_text(),
self.unicode_or_none(), or is converted at some later point. If you want
to send me a patch or script to help pin this down, I'll be happy to
assist.

[Bug 894544] Re: action plugin regex failure

2011-11-27 Thread Garrison Hoffman
I'm not sure how I can be more specific than attempts to match all
digit strings always fail. Did you try the expression I gave as an
example? It doesn't seem especially like the sort of issue to be
specific to architecture or library dependencies.

In any case, unicode() works just as well, which I've also tested with
regex.search() because regex.match() seems like a pointless restriction
not mentioned in the documentation (it forces /^/ matching). Attached is
an update diff against revision 107.

** Patch added: regex.search(unicode(item))

[Bug 894544] Re: action plugin regex failure

2011-11-27 Thread Garrison Hoffman
Only because I'm not terribly familiar with python did I do some further
testing to try to discover how it might be possible to not reproduce
this, but all my testing indicates you've done something wrong in
testing, or we're using different sources. To eliminate this
possibility, here's a simple test script which illustrates the problem,
confirmed on 64bit Ubuntu Onierec and 32bit Ubuntu Lucid LTS.

Run with no arguments for the failure scenario, any arguments for the
successful one (matching this bug ID). If you still cannot reproduce the
bug I'll print out the source code and eat it.

[Bug 894544] Re: action plugin regex failure

2011-11-27 Thread Garrison Hoffman
Well that is certainly curious. Based on available information I'm
inclined to believe Unity may be involved somehow; however, unless you
are under the impression that your input is forever guaranteed to be a
string, I don't see that it much matters that in some cases it works. If
there is some disadvantage to explicitly setting a variable type in a
case like this, I'd prefer to know what that is before spending any time
chasing down clipboard bugs — especially those from the seemingly ever
increasing Unity pile.

I'll see about testing this with Gnome classic or some such, but even if
my suspicions about Unity are off the mark, I don't see a case where
it's a bad idea to patch this bug.

I also hope you'll consider using regex.search, it seems less onerous
than beginning every regex with '.*'

[Bug 894544] Re: action plugin regex failure

2011-11-27 Thread Garrison Hoffman
Update: Same issue on another Oneiric machine running XFCE, so I guess
that lets Unity off the hook. Meanwhile I've been reading up on python —
the language is both strongly and dynamically typed (with duck typing,
no less), shouldn't you always ensure you are passing a string where
strings are required?

[Bug 292588] Re: VirtualBox can't operate in VMX root mode.

2009-12-06 Thread Erik Garrison
For users who still might want to use qemu-kvm, you can use:

sudo update-rc.d -f qemu-kvm remove

To remove the system startup links that insert the module at boot. Now
if you want to use kvm, then run:

sudo /etc/init.d/qemu-kvm start

To insert the module and enable kvm.

This bug suggests that you will not be able to run both virtualbox-ose
and qemu-kvm at the same time. But this workaround will at least
prevent you from having to manually remove the kvm module after every
boot.

[Bug 292588] Re: VirtualBox can't operate in VMX root mode.

2009-12-06 Thread Erik Garrison
KVM is the default virtualization system for Ubuntu 9.10:

The default virtualization technology supported in Ubuntu is KVM, a
technology that takes advantage of virtualization extensions built into
Intel and AMD hardware. For hardware without virtualization extensions
Xen and Qemu are popular solutions.

This would explain why it's installed by default.

[Bug 340338] [NEW] Firefox displays wrong version if you type about: in address bar

2009-03-10 Thread garrison
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I am using firefox 3.0.7+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 on jaunty.

If I type about: into the url bar, it tells me that the version of
Firefox is 1.9.0.7, which is incorrect. (I believe it is the version of
the underlying mozilla, not Firefox itself). However, if you go to
About under the Help menu, it displays the correct version.

I just downloaded the official Firefox 3.0.7 tarball, and it displays
the version correctly in both places. This leads me to believe that it
is an Ubuntu-specific bug.

[Bug 316230] [NEW] python-lxml fails if python-stats is installed

2009-01-11 Thread garrison
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-lxml

This seems to be a manifestation of Debian #497324 (at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=497324)

The following import should work, but it does not:

$ python
Python 2.5.2 (r252:60911, Oct 5 2008, 19:29:17)
[GCC 4.3.2] on linux2
Type help, copyright, credits or license for more information.

  File lxml.etree.pyx, line 40, in lxml.etree (src/lxml/lxml.etree.c:119415)
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'BytesIO'

You can get it to import if you import lxml first, but it causes a
segfault when you try to use it:

 import lxml
 import lxml.etree

Segmentation fault

[Bug 96091] Re: Broken libpam-mysql in Edgy

2007-12-02 Thread Garrison Hoffman
Naturally the problem exists on Gutsy as well.

The LD_PRELOAD trick works better as: export LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libpam.so.0

libpam.so.0 should be a symlink pointing to the correct lib.

Perhaps if no better fix is forthcoming we could get this added to
/etc/init.d/courier-authdaemon?

[Bug 72897] Re: Unable to install without format

2007-11-03 Thread Michael Garrison Stuber
This is very frustrating. I can almost understand the need to nuke /,
/usr, and /boot, but /var? This is where my databases live and my mail
spool, among other things. I can't see why an advanced user would ever
want to blow away /var. Yes, I might create a compatibility problem for
myself if an application specific file format changed in some program,
but as an advanced user, I should be able to sign up for that if I want
to. Please provide a convenient way to override this check in the
future.

In the meantime I've edited
/lib/partman/check.d/12system_partitions_formatted to work around /var.

[Bug 105738] mutt - TLS packet with unexpected length

2007-04-11 Thread Erik Garrison
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mutt

http://www.mail-archive.com/mutt-users@mutt.org/msg32520.html

I use mutt on Feisty (ubuntu). When connecting to gmail using pops, mutt
connects to the server and asks my password. After I enter it, I see the
following error message:

tls_socket_read (A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.)

I googled a bit and saw that it is GNUTLS which causes the problem and
rebuilding mutt with openssl solves the problem. Is there any way other than
building mutt from source?

I have replicated this in the most current fiesty version of mutt

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mutt

http://www.mail-archive.com/mutt-users@mutt.org/msg32520.html

I use mutt on Feisty (ubuntu). When connecting to gmail using pops, mutt
connects to the server and asks my password. After I enter it, I see the
following error message:

tls_socket_read (A TLS packet with unexpected length was received.)

I googled a bit and saw that it is GNUTLS which causes the problem and
rebuilding mutt with openssl solves the problem. Is there any way other than
building mutt from source?

I have replicated this in the most current fiesty version of mutt
(1.5.13-1ubuntu1).

** Affects: mutt (Ubuntu)

 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 96091] Re: Broken libpam-mysql in Edgy

I think you should definitely post it on Debian, I felt like I was the
only fellow doing MySQL auth via pam.

[Bug 96091] Re: Broken libpam-mysql in Edgy

2007-03-25 Thread Garrison Hoffman
Lots of reading and fiddling led me to this workaround:

   export LD_PRELOAD=/lib/libpam.so.0.79
   /etc/init.d/courier-authdaemon restart

I still don't know what's up with the pam libs, but at least users can
now access their e-mail.

[Bug 67067] Re: dist-upgrade to edgy failed on gnome-app-install

2006-10-20 Thread Jim Garrison
Both commands work perfectly with no output.

However, I think we have found the culprit possibly nonetheless.

At the time of installation, I had python2.5 installed in /usr/local/bin
because I simply could not wait for edgy to be released. So if, at any
point in the install process, a script ran /usr/bin/env python, it
would have invoked my python in /usr/local/bin, which does not contain
xdg in its path.

** Summary changed:

- find -regex ignores case
+ find -regex sometimes ignores case

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: findutils

find /usr/bin -regex '[/A-Z]+' prints everything in /usr/bin instead of
- just files with upper case characters. In other words it functions
- exactly like -iregex.
+ just files with all upper case characters (none); in other words, it
+ functions exactly like -iregex.
+
+ find /usr/bin -regex '[/ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ]+' works as expected.
+
+ A better workaround is to use a different -regextype with posix
+ character classes, e.g. find /usr/bin -regextype posix-egrep -regex
+ '[/[:UPPER:]]+'

[Bug 55723] Re: Missing X-Spam-* headers

2006-08-10 Thread Garrison Hoffman
The default config fails to define @local_domains_maps, ergo no
recipient is considered local. This is bad.

Adding either

@local_domains_acl = ( .$mydomain );

or

@local_domains_maps = ( [.$mydomain] );

to the config will fix this problem.

[Bug 55723] Missing X-Spam-* headers

2006-08-08 Thread Garrison Hoffman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amavisd-new

amavisd-new does not produce X-Spam-Level and X-Spam-Status headers even
when $sa_spam_report_header and $sa_spam_level_char are explicitly set
in /etc/amavis/conf.d/50-user

X-Spam-* headers normally appear when X-Virus-Scanned does, that is,
when the spam score surpasses $sa_tag_level_deflt
