Re: [Bug 1714947] Re: GRUB problem during installation
Thank you. It would have been great if Ubuntu tells me this and I don't have to report it. 2017-09-29 17:34 GMT+02:00 Phillip Susi : > You tried to install grub to /dev/dm0, which is an LVM logical volume. > You must install it to a hard drive instead ( /dev/sda ). > > > ** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu) >Status: New => Invalid > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug > report. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714947 > > Title: > GRUB problem during installation > > Status in grub-installer package in Ubuntu: > Invalid > > Bug description: > Just trying to install Ubuntu and at the very end of the process I got > this error message saying GRUB cannot be installed to the hard drive. > > ProblemType: Bug > DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.04 > Package: ubiquity 17.04.9 > ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.10.0-19.21-generic 4.10.8 > Uname: Linux 4.10.0-19-generic x86_64 > ApportVersion: 2.20.4-0ubuntu4 > Architecture: amd64 > CasperVersion: 1.380 > Date: Mon Sep 4 14:42:02 2017 > InstallCmdLine: file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper > initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash --- maybe-ubiquity > LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) > ProcEnviron: >LANGUAGE=hu_HU.UTF-8 >PATH=(custom, no user) >XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= >LANG=hu_HU.UTF-8 >LC_NUMERIC=C.UTF-8 > SourcePackage: grub-installer > UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) > > To manage notifications about this bug go to: > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/ > +bug/1714947/+subscriptions > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714947 Title: GRUB problem during installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1714947/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 428365] Re: Karmic Koala Alpha 5. Desktop does not start, freezes the boot screen
Good news! The problem has disappeared after using today's (21 sept 2009) Live Build from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ With this build I can get to the desktop with no problem. Everything looks fine, though I haven't installed it, just used the Live CD. Juan, Tormod, I unfortunately didn't try out your solutions. Thanks for the fix whoever did it! -- Karmic Koala Alpha 5. [Bug 428365] Re: Karmic Koala Alpha 5. Desktop does not start, freezes the boot screen
I've tested Alpha 6 live CD (without installation) on my system, but the same problem happens as before: when the desktop should appear, I can hear the welcome tune, but then the screen goes back to the screen. with the Ubuntu logo and the moving white line. Then again the welcome tune starts then it jumps back again and so on until it switch the laptop off. The last version that ran perfectly was Alpha 4 with NO updates. If I let the update manager update my Alpha 4, then this problem starts. Btw with Alpha 4 all hardware was working: webcam, bluetooth, wifi, everything out of the box. That's why I bought this laptop. Thanks!! My configuration again: I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN-SR29VN (i could repeat the same problem on another laptop of exactly this same type) Processor Type Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (CPU) Procesor Cores Dual Core (2) Processor Speed 2.4GHz CPU Memory Size 4 GB (Gigabytes) Graphics Chipset ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 Graphics Memory 256 MB Hard Drive (HDD) 320 GB (Gigabytes) Optical Drive Dual DVD Card Reader Built-in Card Reader Display Size 13.3 inch Display Display Resolution 1280 x 800, WXGA USB Ports 2 x USB port Firewire (IEE1394) 1 x Firewire (IEEE1394) port Web Cam Integrated Web Camera 1.3 MegaPixel Bluetooth Built-in-Bluetooth Wired Network 10/100 Internal LAN RJ-45 connector Wireless Wireless LAN 802.11bg upto 54Mbps -- Karmic Koala Alpha 5. [Bug 428365] Re: Karmic Koala Alpha 5. Desktop does not start, freezes the boot screen
No desktop after logging in. All was fine with Karmic Alpha 4 until after a regular update (beginning of September, so before the release the Alpha 5) I was not able to reach my desktop any more. After logging in the screen went black for a few seconds (as usual) but instead of my desktop, the login screen appeared again. I've tried Alpha 5 now but the same happens. I can only use Alpha 4 with no updates. Re: [Bug 219556] Re: Speakers do not mute on headphones (Fujitsu-Siemens ESPRIMO M9400)
I'm a beginner. No idea how to "build" things in Linux. If it's not too difficult to explain, I'll give it a try. Hi, I also have the same problem. In Windows, internal speakers automatically mute when headphone is connected. In Ubuntu, internal speakers still emit sound. Very annoying.
