[Bug 1760338] Re: Touchpad hotkey 'functional' but has no effect in 18.04 (Bionic)
Deleting the synaptics driver resolves the issue. It appears the driver needs to be deleted with the introduction of the libinput driver (now that the synaptics driver has been deprecated). However this issue/bug occurred as the synaptic driver was not deleted during the upgrade to 18.04 from 16.04 (most likely due the the fact that the config file was not empty - however it would be impossible for it to be empty if it was the driver used in 16.04, prior to the introduction of the libinput driver with the 18.04 upgrade). Suggestion: For all future upgrades to 18.04, there is the need to ensure the synaptic driver is removed to avoid breaking this functionality and introducing the conflict. If the user decides he/she needs the deprecated synaptics driver, they can always install it after. This way, Ubuntu 18.04 and beyond would not appear defective in this instance after an upgrade. Affects: Upgrades to 18.04 and newer. Conclusion: This bug can be closed when this is fixed in future releases of Ubuntu. I'm not sure who needs to be communicated about this, can someone please help to see this through to obtain a fix implementation and thus closure? The Trackpad Hotkey continues to be recognized however the same 'Trackpad deactivated' graphic pops-up every time Fn+F5 hotkey is depressed. This is somehow not linked to the Enable/Disable Trackpad functionality in Gnome Control Center/Settings (i.e. does nothing). Thanks for taking the time to address this. Noted and sorry - will ensure this is done in the future. This is how the issue is reproduced and the same is still being observed affecting the latest Firefox 62. Closing firefox and restarting the first private windows thereafter will not reproduce the issue. With the second issue, yes I've noted these comments since 12.04 LTS or where this inconsistency continue to be prevalent. With mine it does provide the warning dialog box on default so I'm not able to add further unfortunately. Again, your help looking into this is always much appreciated. ** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1794282 Title: Firefox 60 with Ubuntu 18.04.1 (Private Browsing) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1794282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04.1 LTS. Similar issue encountered where Fn keys are working (audio, mute, bright, volume and even wifi) except for enable/disable touchpad. However, Touchpad disabled graphic is displayed (indicating recognition) but unfortunately has no effect i.e. not able to enable/disable using Fn key (Fn+F5). Re: [Bug 1340154] Re: On modem initialization, Modem Manager 0.5.2 sets text mode instead of PDU mode for SMS, but newer modems can't work in this mode
Thanks Marius, but the issue is getting the backport request supported for 12.04. No problems installing 12.04 on non-pae systems - however I believe it is the last currently supported platform that works on non-pae systems. [Bug 1340154] [NEW] On modem initialization, Modem Manager 0.5.2 sets text mode instead of PDU mode for SMS, but newer modems can't work in this mode
Public bug reported: To-date, cannot utilise Modem Manager GUI in 12.04 LTS, as it is understood that there is a 'bug' in Modem Manager version 0.5.2 that installed in Ubuntu 12.04 by default. On modem initialization it sets text mode instead of PDU mode for SMS, but newer modems can't work in this mode. I understand the GUI works well and has been introduced into Saucy Salamander and later versions, but Modem Manager versions 0.6 or later has not yet been made available for 12.04 LTS users which enables its SMS functions etc to work. It is hoped that an updated version of Modem Manager that addresses this and other bug fixes can be introduced into 12.04 LTS very soon for users like myself who have been looking out patiently for a couple of years for this functionality.
