[Bug 1687130] Re: NFS client input/output-error on kernel >=4.9

2017-05-01 Thread Hedgehog
Of the kernels in the mainline ppa i can at the moment confirm that none above
v4.8.17 works (ie 4.8.17-040817-generic), and all of
- v4.9.24
- v4.9.25
- v4.10-rc1
- v4.10.8
- v4.10.12
- v4.10.13
have the bug present.

I'll come back with an update after I've tested the proposed v4.11-rc8 (
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.11-rc8 )

** Tags added: apport-collected zesty

** Description changed:

I'm experiencing input/output errors on mounting NFS-shares, starting
  from kernel 4.9 and above.

No errors logged to syslog, but the system reports IO-errors when
reading from the mount after only a few seconds. Doesn't matter which
program that are accessing the disk.

My problems started after upgrading to ubuntu 17.04, but I have narrowed
it down to being present from ubuntu kernel 4.9 and above by installing
kernels from the ubuntu kernel ppa - i.e. when downgrading to latest
4.8-kernel from the PPA, NFS starts working as expected even on ubuntu
17.04. So it's definetely kernel related.

Probably not a hardware error either as the bug is present when NFS is
mounted over both eth0 and wlan0.

Only special thing in my setup is that NFS is mounted over an ssh-
  tunnel.

The NFS server runs an completely up to date ubuntu 16.04 LTS install.

[Bug 890412] [NEW] nomotd kernel parameter

2011-11-14 Thread hedgehog
Public bug reported:

Similar to the noplymouth kernel parameter it is useful[0] for many
people[1],[2],[3], etc. to have _one_ _simple_ mechanism to turn off _any_ and
_all_ MOTD output.
Not just ssh configuration, but pam, ~/.hushlogin and the hilarious
~/.sudo_as_admin_successful.

[Bug 404340] Re: Newest version causes high CPU load when pulseaudio not running

2011-04-29 Thread hedgehog
I'd like to reopen this bug - properly.
I'm seeing matecity deteriorate and then break after some period of usage.

I've tried reinstalling ubuntu-dektop package and all pulse* packages to
no effect.

The strace is after having done all these re-installs.

This will give you some clue about that has broken.

[Bug 449005] Re: package linux-image-2.6.28-15-generic 2.6.28-15.52 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2011-02-13 Thread Hedgehog
I have almost the same problem as SW (old hardware that dont work with
grub1 or 2) and the bug is still present in ubuntu 10.04. As installning
any grub package breaks my installation this workaround makes kernel
upgrades configure properly:

sudo -s

ln -s /bin/true /sbin/update-grub

apt-get upgrade

(of course the ln command only has to be run one time)

[Bug 667683] Re: Nvidia SLI active: Failed to set DisplayPort power state

2010-11-01 Thread hedgehog
OK despite the Nvidia SLI site clearly showing two monitors connected in
SLI mode it seems that only one can be connected.

The xorg says:
Failed to set DisplayPort power state.

may be a bug but I can't see any side efforts. Will open another bug if
that changes.

Please mark as closed/invalid.

Public bug reported:

Two monitors work fine, one plugged in to GPU0 and the other GPU1 -
Xinerama

Both monitors plugged in to GPU0 work fine.

Now set
sudo nvidia-xconfig --sli=on

Logout, logon and one one monitor comes up, the other, xorg says:
Failed to set DisplayPort power state.

Tried switching cables and ports around same effect. Also tried with and
without Xinerama.
Same broken behavior when activating SLI Mosaic.

[Bug 666713] Re: [Realtek ALC262] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-10-27 Thread hedgehog
I am happy to revert to the std Ubuntu sound stack and trouble shoot but
would like some assurance that I won't be left hanging - I don't mean to
cast aspertions, but my experience in OpenSUSE/Novell was terrible with
bugs left hanging. By hanging I mean not even told - give up for the
moment and use this alternative/work around

So, precisely what apt-get will install Ubuntu's preferred sound stack?
Then I'll continue devoting some time to helping work this out :)

[Bug 666713] Re: [Realtek ALC262] ALSA test tone not correctly played back

2010-10-27 Thread hedgehog
Changing device to usb in :
Preferences Sound Hardware Profile would not 'take'
In the output tab there was no USB device listed.

For the moment I have OSS working after very manual process, but would like to
get back to having a fully functional sound sub-system
On reflection, this broke in updates over the last week or two - if that helps?

Correction to my last comment:

Using the generic printer driver, as described in the thread cited, does
in fact speed up printing.

[Bug 318448] Re: [Hauppauge WinTV HVR-900/Hybrid][em28xx]Missing device files (/dev/dvb)

2010-09-04 Thread hedgehog
I have the exact same problem with a Pinnacle PCTV Hybrid stick (330e) on
Ubuntu 10.04
The em28xx modules are loaded, but the only devices created are /dev/video0,
/dev/vbi0.
The dvb device (/dev/dvb/adapter0) is not created.

The site
http://jiemeb.free.fr/pinnacle/
does not, currently, have a 2.6.32-25 amd64 build.

[Bug 523803] Re: Evince (No protocol specified) + NX floating windows mode

2010-09-01 Thread hedgehog
I had this same experience. PDF files were not opening in evince.
Desktop is a nomachine client connected to neatx server. Example:

$ evince
No protocol specified
Cannot parse arguments: Cannot open display:
$

Workaround, in the same terminal as above:

$ xhost +
access control disabled, clients can connect from any host
$

Now evince opens PDF files, e.g. from within Chromium.

Speculation that the xhost command should be added to the NX client's Run the
following command:
E.g
xfce4-session xhost +

[Bug 574307] Re: new Wireless Doesn't Connect! rt2860

2010-05-14 Thread hedgehog
I have never been able to connect but I think that is due to my router
expecting a 64bit WEP key:

every time I try to connect it asks for the passkey, which I input, it
then has the icon of the wireless trying to connect in the tool bar, it
tries to connect for a few minutes until it asks for the passkey again,
and it goes in an endless loop like that.

ditto.
The dmsg log matches.
Of all the rta2860sta module related bugs yours matches the behavior I see.

[Bug 308705] Re: high cpu usage with et131x

2010-03-11 Thread Hedgehog
The bug was fixed in the .30 or maybe .31-version of the et131x-driver
in the linux kernel. Another bug is still there though which causes the
module to crash on high network loads (around 100 mbit/sec) which forces
the user to reload the kernel module to make the wired network respond
again. I havent checked if this is reported though (this bug at least is
present even in the .33-kernel when the et131x-driver is compiled when
using the ubuntu kernel ppa and is also present at least in the latest
kernel in lucid)

I too can confirm this on a LG R200 laptop with the same ethernet
controller as mentioned above. Getting 250.2 wakeups / sec both with the
cable in and out with the latest jaunty kernel in the repositories
(2.6.28-12-generic). The same thing off course goes with the vanilla
jaunty kernel (28-11-something)

[Bug 180261] Adding a new user with Real Name containing an apostrophe fails

2008-01-03 Thread Gary Hedgehog
Public bug reported:

Problem can be reproduced in Gusty and Feisty (ubuntu).

When trying to add a new user:
- Click System - Administration - Users and Groups
- Click Add User
- In the Real Name field, type a name including an apostrophe, for example,
O'Neill
- Fill in the password, etc
- Click OK
- Close the Users and Groups (User settings) window
- Re-open via System - Administration - Users and Groups

Notice that the Name field is blank, though it should contain the
Real Name, for example, O'Neill

This seems to be another apostrophe bug.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed
