[Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-12-18 Thread iltony
This fixes the problem:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/275.43/

and for 64 bit users:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/275.43/

They state (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2510957):
* Fixed a regression that caused blank/white windows when exhausting video
memory on GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs while using composited desktops.

And that's true: tested and working. Hope for a fast update of nvidia-
graphics-driver related package through synaptic. I installed the driver
from NVIDIA binaries and am currently running GNOME 3 on Ubuntu 11.10;
my video card is a NVIDIA GO 7300; can confirm nvidia driver 275.43
works properly (on my laptop).

[Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-11-06 Thread iltony
Sorry, backporting 260.xx is not possibile since 260.xx branch is
compiled against a different xorg ABI version than oneiric has, hence it
does not work. Using IgnoreABI crashes x. However, using 173.xx branch
(which works) is a huge regression in term of performance. Nouveau
works, but it's kind of a regression (comparing to nvidia latest branch)
too.

2011-10-31 Thread iltony
290.03 nvidia driver presents the same issue as 280.xx branch. I'm tryng
to backport 260.xx branch, which shouldn't be affected by the bug, and
see if it works. The procedure about backporting is explained here:

[Bug 521509] Re: player 1 visual corruption

2010-05-22 Thread iltony
Perfect! I tried Pegasus' remedy, by adding a
rebootMixxxView();
at line 341 in
src/mixxxview.cpp
from the sources of mixxx 1.7.2 (got with an apt-get source, apt-get build-deb
and scons did the job of resolving the dependencies and compiling for me) and
everything works fine.
System:
Linux antonio-laptop 2.6.31-10-rt #153-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT RT Tue Jan 12
11:01:03 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Video adapter:
NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce Go 7300 (G72) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)
(proprietary NVIDIA driver installed and in use).
The problem appeared while upgrading from Karmik to Lucid and now disappeared.

For everyone who's struggling with the problem, here is the alternative

[Bug 477226] Re: Sound simultaneously on headphones and speakers - Lenovo IdeaPad u350

2010-02-28 Thread iltony
I don't know how to help about jack detection. It doesn't work on my laptop
(lenovo 3000 N200 hda-intel) as well (and it never did). But I can tell you how
I successfully made my headphones work again with connector selection option in
gnome-volume-preferences applet.
Open a terminal and type cd /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/
then give a sudo gedit analog-output-headphones.conf.
Locate [Element Front] in gedit and replace
[Element Front]
switch = off
volume = off
with:
[Element Front]
switch = off
volume = merge.
The save, close and reboot. This time connector selection option should work.
---
If it doesn't, please open a terminal and type: alsamixer, then try setting
all volumes to high, including front, and all the trigger on (you can toggle a
trigger by pressing m), all but the front trigger which should be set to off.

[Bug 414746] Re: speakers cannot be muted when using headphones regression (karmic)

2010-02-28 Thread iltony
Don't know this is useful, anyhow, if you own a Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop,
by adding the line: options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=lenovo
jack-detection turns on. If this method is used in conjunction with:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/414746/comments/54
, then everything should work fine after.

[Bug 511719] [NEW] Ardour's Italian Translation makes it impossible to use it

2010-01-23 Thread iltony
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ardour

I mean, it's totally useless. When things are done this way, things don't get
better but worse. I've been using Ardour in English version for 2 years, and it
does its job well. But recently, I re-installed my computer and found out that
everything got translated to Italian. I mean, please, what's that?! Please give
us back the English version! I don't know anything about the translator, but
one can't use strings which are so long that they make program's interface
expand over a 1280x800 screen. And even in the dialogues it's the same! And the
texts, they are so literal that one can't understand what they refer to! One
can't translate technical terms which make sense in English but do not in
Italian. Please review this, and until the translation is useful, please, let
us install the English one.
BTW, is there a way to change Ardour's language? I did not found any options in
the menu (but the menu are not understandable, because of this bad translation).

[Bug 502375] Re: Wine randomly cannot initialize sound

2010-01-23 Thread iltony
have you tried the command
pasuspender -- winecfg
?
You can start a program by issuing
pasuspender -- wine .wine/drive_c/Programmi/Macromedia/Flash\ 8/Flash.exe
It suspends pulseaudio for a while and lets you use wine without the hassles it
brings.

Thanks Thomas, the temporary trick you reported works well. By typing
LANG=en_US.UTF-8 ardour2, English in Ardour is back again. :-)

[Bug 502375] Re: Wine randomly cannot initialize sound

2010-01-06 Thread iltony
You can fix winmm.dll problem, without recompiling the kernel, by
setting your audio output to oss in winecfg. Run winecfg, switch to
audio tab, select oss output. If you can't access winecfg, please try
the following steps: disable any soundcard which is giving problem (i.e.
remove usb soundcards, disable internal ones from bios), then run
winecfg, set the right output, enable all your soundcards, reboot. For
me, everything has worked fine since I took these steps. I'm running
ubuntu karmik with kernel 2.6.31-9-rt #152-Ubuntu x86_64, internal
soundcard: intel hda, external soundcard: hercules mk2 (usb).

[Bug 290986] Re: Connecting to WPA-ENTEPRISE network 1) removes info about CA cert; 2) kills nm-applet

2009-11-15 Thread iltony
Don't know if it might help, I had problems with network-manager as
well, and each time network-manager crashed, I had to type killall
gnome-panel in a terminal in order for the applet to restart. Then I
added to my sessions file (System Preferences Start
Applications) the command nm-applet --sm-disable and the problems
went away.
