[Bug 480186] Re: splix package lacks support for Xerox 6110MFP
I see the discussion was hot. It is an ugly hack, but also a solution. [Bug 480186] [NEW] splix package lacks support for Xerox 6110MFP
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: splix The ubuntu version of splix 2.0 (printer drivers) does not include support for the Xerox 6110MFP printer. The official package, as found on the following website, does work: http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Xerox-Phaser_6110 Expected behaviour: - when installing a new Xerox 6110 printer, the right splix driver should be in the list. Actual behaviour: - no splix driver is shown for that printer; - there is a splix driver for 6100, but it does not work for 6110 printer; - there is another driver for the 6110 printer, but it is old and feature-lacking. Alternative route: - download the official splix package from the page above. This will require 40 (!) dependencies and some non-intuitive user input. [Bug 480186] Re: splix package lacks support for Xerox 6110MFP
Thanks for your quick feedback. Answers: 2. One of the fourty packages is postfix. It asks the user to insert some data like local only or internet and some name. I can't describe it better but it has something to do with e-mail functionality (which is quite unrelated to printer drivers, isn't it?); 1. This is not a good option; the driver does not work as well as the splix driver. A short comment. I know that patent rights are a hot topic these days, but it is not feasible for the mean user to visit the openprinting page, find out which package is the right one for him, download the .deb, install all dependencies (40!), fill out some e-mail related forms, etc. only to get his own printer to work. Peripherals drivers are one big problem between linux and its audience, indeed! Wouldn't it be more user-friendly to ask the user about patented drivers during the usual splix package installation? If the user agrees, a full version of the package should be installed (via a licence acceptance, or something similar). Is this impossible? -- splix package lacks support for Xerox 6110MFP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 148070] Re: KeyJnote failing Error: pdftoppm produced an unreadable file (page 1)
I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy and keyjnote 0.10.0-1 . I installed keyjnote from the repos and couldn't get it work. I installed patch from the repos and applied the patch of Tim using Martin Zuther's commands, but I got the following error message: NameError: global name 'RealPage' is not defined Then, following bug #178429 in keyjnote, created by Siep Kroonenberg, I opened keyjnote.py with gedit and substituted RealPage with page (without ) on line 1050. Now it works for me. I still had some rendering problems which I resolved by using parameter -e. My synthax is thus: keyjnote -e MYFILE.pdf and everything's ok! -- KeyJnote failing Error: pdftoppm produced an unreadable file (page 1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148070 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
