[Bug 1576382] Re: Firefox 46 → display glitch

2016-04-28 Thread iox
Confirmed, same thing happening in a Thinkpad T440p, intel i7-4800MQ.

Today I upgraded Firefox and immediately afterwards, the browser started
showing similar glitches. I have rebooted the computer and the problems
are still here, making usage of Firefox very annoying.

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 with Gnome environment.

Hi Thomas!

Thank you very much, I just tested the resolvconf package from the
proposed repository and it works great. It's been a pleasure debugging a
bug with you. I'm going to comment in the other bug too, so they have
confirmation it's working.

A note for users looking to update their resolvconf: the working version
in 12.04 proposed seems to be 1.63ubuntu16 instead of 1.67ubuntu2 (this
one probably belongs to 12.10).

Ok course Thomas :). First the md5sum:

ignacio@cherokee:~$ md5sum /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/000resolvconf
a3a76c831a5a96917c9b293598901f72 /etc/ppp/ip-up.d/000resolvconf

And now the line from the syslog:
Sep 7 22:54:07 cherokee 000resolvconf: The sixth argument is:
/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/PPP/0

I don't know if it's relevant, but the PPP number increases every time I turn
off an on my
bluetooth. This is the log from the second time connecting:
Sep 7 22:55:48 cherokee 000resolvconf: The sixth argument is:
/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/PPP/1

I forgot to tell you: the two "offending DNS" (195.81.137.130 and
195.81.155.194) are the DNS of my 3G network provider (Simyo). I suspect
that the Bluetooth DUN internet connection is not setting the DNS the
way it should.

[Bug 1046154] Re: Can't resolve OpenVPN DNS while using a 3G connection with resolvconf installed

2012-09-05 Thread iox
Hi Thomas,

Thanks again for your help! I did comment out once "dns=dnsmasq" in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf. But I rebooted, tested, it didn't
help,
and I left it the way it was again. I just checked and this is my file:

ignacio@cherokee:~$ cat /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile
dns=dnsmasq

[ifupdown]
managed=false

I have decided to reproduce the problem again from scratch: I installed
resolvconf again, rebooted, connected to 3G

1. This is my /etc/resolv.conf before connecting to the VPN (resolvconf
installed):
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 195.81.137.130
nameserver 195.81.155.194
nameserver 127.0.0.1

2. And after connecting to the VPN (resolvconf installed - resolving fails):
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 195.81.137.130
nameserver 195.81.155.194
nameserver 127.0.0.1
search dummy.intranet

3. This is my /etc/resolv.conf before connecting to the VPN (resolvconf
uninstalled):
# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 127.0.0.1

4. And after connecting to the VPN (resolvconf uninstalled - resolving works):
# Generated by NetworkManager
domain ecotec.intranet
search ecotec.intranet
nameserver 127.0.0.1

Oh, this is not nice: I am getting different the same results now. I must have
messed up something
last time.

[Bug 1046154] Re: Can't resolve OpenVPN DNS while using a 3G connection with resolvconf installed

2012-09-04 Thread iox
Yes Steve, I'm using the default Ubuntu configuration: I'm using network
manager and dnsmasq.

The server is pushing this information (I replaced the client company name with
"dummy"):
push "dhcp-option DNS 192.168.163.200"
push "dhcp-option DOMAIN dummy.intranet"

About the script you mentioned (/etc/openvpn/update-resolv-conf), how
can I tell network manager to use this script?

[Bug 1046154] [NEW] Can't resolve OpenVPN DNS while using a 3G connection with resolvconf installed

2012-09-04 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64 bits (3.2.0-29-generic)
Resolvconf package version: 1.63ubuntu15

What I expected to happen: Connect through 3G (bluetooth DUN), connect
to a OpenVPN and be able to resolve the internal domain names to access
some servers.

What happened instead: I can't resolve internal hostnames.

Additional information: It only breaks when connecting through 3G. When
connecting through Wifi/Cable it works perfectly.

Workaround: Uninstalling the package resolvconf seems to solve the
problem.

Other users probably affected:
http://mobilesociety.typepad.com/mobile_life/2012/07/ubuntu-1204-the-
network-manager-3g-internet-and-vpn.html

I've looked at other bug reports and tried other solutions:
* #922578. Removing "resolvconf" is a workaround that works, but I imagine
this is resolvconf bug and there must be a more elegant solution.
* #994575. This looks related, but I already have the patched version and it
didn't help.
* #924013. I have already checked that my OpenVPN servers are pushing the right
information (DNS + DOMAIN) back to the client.

With resolvconf installed: cat /etc/resolv.conf:
nameserver 195.81.137.130
nameserver 195.81.155.194
nameserver 192.168.163.200
search dummy.intranet

With resolvconf uninstalled: cat /etc/resolv.conf
domain dummy.intranet
search dummy.intranet
nameserver 127.0.0.1

Please tell me if you need any additional information

[Bug 862609] Re: seahorse-plugins gone in Oneiric

2011-11-28 Thread iox
Hi, we are really desperate for this package. We tried Marc's PPA (thank
you!) and now we can encrypt with Nautilus but not with Gedit (what we
really need).

We saw in the tarball that the gedit plugin is there, but it looks like
configure is ignoring it (see post #8 in
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=120563).

Could we try to compile it forcing to enable the gedit plugin?
Any other alternative? Maybe downgrading gedit?

[Bug 797190] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty upgrade underclocks and disables CPU scaling

2011-09-05 Thread iox
Sorry about the confusion with the Bios: I was completely wrong.

The issue was not with the Bios, it was with the AC adapter. I was using
the travel AC Adapter, which is smaller and only provides enough power
for 800-1600Mhz. After plugging the battery the processor scales to
2400Mhz: this is because the battery helps with the peak energy
situations.

[Bug 840960] [NEW] Ubuntu splash is not fluid during boot: interruted with message "mountall: desconectado de plymouth"

2011-09-04 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

I just installed and updated Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot Beta 1. When I boot,
the plymouth splash is interrupted just before user selection menu
launches (a couple of seconds).

A black screen (console) is shown with this message: "mountall:
desconectado de plymouth". As my Ubuntu is in spanish, the english
version is probably "mountall: disconnected from plymouth".

I don't think this is critical, but it would be really nice if that
message was gone and the start experience was more fluid.

Please tell if I can do anything to help with this bug.

Ignacio

[Bug 840949] [NEW] Mouse pointer becomes slow and unresponsive in a Thinkpad T400

2011-09-04 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

During and after installing Oneiric Ocelot Beta 1 in a Thinkpad T400
(Intel 4500), mouse pointer was extremely unresponsive. Top revealed
that some "kworker" process was consuming most of the CPUs (Dual Core).

After installing the latest updates it has improved a lot, but still it
becomes unresponsive sometimes:

- In lightDM: moving the mouse to select another user is very hard
- Randomly when using Ubuntu, I haven't been able to reproduce it extensively,
but it happens every few minutes.

If you need anything else to track this down just tell me.

Ignacio

[Bug 728273] Re: Nautilus trash can't open OpenOffice files

2011-08-16 Thread iox
Hi Pedro,

I just tested it in Oneiric Ocelot Alpha 3 32 bits live cd. The bug is
still here:

- I can open a TXT document from the trash.
- When I try to open a ODT document LibreOffice starts loading, but it closes
before opening the document.

I also tested opening the document with the terminal (libreoffice
.local/share/Trash/document.odt) and it works. I believe this is an
issue with the path the Trash is passing on to LibreOffice.

Tell me if you need more information.

Regards,
Ignacio

[Bug 728273] [NEW] Nautilus trash can't open OpenOffice files

2011-03-03 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Ubuntu 10.10, Nautilus trash works well while opening TXT or PDF
documents, but when you try to open an ODT file with OpenOffice, it is
opened with the file archiver instead of OpenOffice. Using "right click

[Bug 553362] [NEW] Start script creates /var/run/mysqld with static owner

2010-04-01 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-server-5.1

I run a mysql server (5.1.37-1ubuntu5.1) in my laptop (Ubuntu Karmic 64)
with my personal user "ignacio", instead of the default "mysql".

The problem: After defining the user on /etc/mysql/my.cnf and taking
care of permissions, mysql server won't start.

The workaround: /etc/init.d/mysql script is the problem. I found out
that on every start, the script creates /var/run/mysqld with the owner
"mysql", and so the server doesn't start. After modifying this script
(line 109), the server works perfectly.

The question: Maybe the mysql start script could check into
/etc/mysql/my.cnf to see what the correct user is? Is there any reason
why this mysqld folder is recreated on every reboot?

[Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2010-03-12 Thread iox
NextWindow's answer: "the code will contain some very highly sensitive
intellectual property". So they are not planning to release the code.
That's bad news :(.

Well, maybe someone can use the closed source driver to code an open
one. What I'm gonna do right now is to give them some ideas about
software patents. I invite anyone to copy-paste
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/fighting-software-patents.html and send it
to i...@nextwindow.com. Share the code!

[Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2010-03-09 Thread iox
Update:

After exchanging a few emails with NextWindow support, they finally sent
me a driver, a "prototype written for ubuntu". I'm attaching the file
they sent me. I don't have much information about it, but it works great
with Ubuntu Karmic i386! These are the steps I took:

- Install Ubuntu 9.10 i386.

- Install the driver (nwfermi-0.1_i383.deb)

- Install some extra software: joystick (for testing) and xserver-xorg-
input-evtouch.

- Load the module:
 sudo modprobe nw-fermi

- Activate the input device:
 sudo sh -c "echo 1926 007a > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/nwfermi/new_id"

- After this, the device "/dev/input/event6" is working. Testing:
 sudo evtest /dev/input/event6

- Restart Xorg (restart the session)

Moreover, I tweaked to work after reboot:

- Add "nw-fermi" to /etc/modules

- Add boot script to /etc/rc.local
sh -c "echo 1926 007a > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/nwfermi/new_id"

I hope this works for someone, I had never seen "nw-fermi" before. If it's new
code, we should probably ask NextWindow to release the code.

[Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)

2010-01-15 Thread iox
I have a Dell Inspiron One Touch with Nextwindow Touchscreen. Sadly, I
believe it is a different model as lsusb reports:

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1926:007a

I have managed to make it appear in /dev/input/event6 with the commands:

sudo modprobe usbtouchscreen
sudo sh -c "echo 1926 007a > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usbtouchscreen/new_id"

After that, I've tried evtest:

evtest /dev/input/event6

But the screen is sending no input when I touch it. I'm not sure if my
problem is from xserver-xorg-input-evdev package, or maybe
usbtouchscreen module. Any idea?

[Bug 435374] Re: thinkpad t500 suspend key not work

2009-10-10 Thread iox
I just upgrades to Jaunty beta and suspend key stopped working in
Thinkpad T400.

I created a file in /etc/acpi/events with the contents of pavolzetor's
"/etc/acpi/events" file. That made my suspend key work again.

There's still something weird. Suspension works differently depending on the
method used:

- FN+F4. Screen goes black smoothly, then it suspends. When it wakes up I have
to enter my password. Just the same as in Jaunty.
- Gnome icon. Screen goes black suddenly and it suspends much faster. When it
wakes up it doesn't ask for a password.

I'm satisfies with the Jaunty speed, but I'm a bit puzzled at the differences.

[Bug 359449] [NEW] 2.6.28-11 breaks mouse scrolling

2009-04-10 Thread iox
Public bug reported:

After updating to Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, my PS2 IBM mouse (Model 12J3619)
has stopped scrolling with kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (i386). Booting with
kernel 2.6.27-11-generic (i386) solves the problem. Booting with another
OS also works, so I deduce it is not a hardware problem.

This mouse is a bit special. It doesn't have a wheel but a "trackpoint"
you push up and down (without middle click). It looks (almost) like
this: http://www.almaden.ibm.com/cs/user/tp/tpmouse1.GIF. My laptop's
external USB mouse works, but I really love my IBM PS2 :D.

I'm using a Nvidia Gforce 8400 GS with propietary drivers (version 180).
Xev doesn't print anything when I scroll, but I noticed something weird
with "xinput list". The output is different with 2.6.28-11 (scroll
doesn't work) and with 2.6.27-11 (scroll works). Both outputs are
attached, and also a "lspci -vvnn".
