[Bug 380303] Re: thinkpad-acpi X200 Thinkpad fan fails to spin down .

2010-07-13 Thread iponeverything
I am seeing this issue on an x200s with 9.10 32 bit and a x200 with
10.04 64 bit

Fan seems to stays at around 3800 RPM regardless of temperature. Idle my
cpu is 33 C and a kernel build with -j 4 will push it over 61 C with no
change in fan speed. I can use echo level x /proc/acpi/ibm/fan to
adjust the fan speed manually -- but after a couple of minutes -- it
reverts to auto on its own. I don't have windows on either of machines,
so I don't know what the behavior of Embedded Controller is under
windows.

x200 with 10.04:
Linux mac 2.6.32-23-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 11 08:03:28 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux

running thinkfan, I can see that it is using the second value in
/proc/acpi/ibm/thermal which is HDAPS according to
http://www.vminko.org/gentoo_on_x200#acpi. thinkpad_acpi.c appears to
show that it has not been modified since 2007.

from thinkpad_acpi.c

/*
 *  Changelog:
 *  2007-10-20  changelog trimmed down

Though I am assuming that when level=auto, fan speed is handled though
the Embedded Controller and has little interaction with thinkpad_acpi --
but assuming ECP works correctly under windows, the problem would seem
to point to issue with the kernel's interaction with ECP.

Has anyone updated the ECP to 1.06 (7XHT24WW) on the x200 to see if it
fixes the fan issue?

Anyway, just though I would add my 2 cents.

[Bug 258031] Re: v86d crashed with SIGSEGV

2008-10-22 Thread iponeverything
I hope that it is not my imagination and I am not sure how they are
related, but I have not had v86d segfault on me since applying the fix
for Bug #269651. (see post - James Westby, 2008-10-20)

Before this v86d would segfault at once very fresh session. (the lack of
v86d didn't affect much, just losing the tail -vf of my logs that I had
on tty8 and my virtual consoles.)

Maybe I have just been lucky, but is it possible that James' fix for

consolekit_0.2.10-1ubuntu8+ppa3_i386.

:( so sad. I am still able to easily reproduce the segfault with

I backed out to 0.2.10-1ubuntu8 and rebuilt the deb with your patch
applied and got the same result.

If its any consolation, I made it to seven windows before the segfault.
I will continue to test it to see how it does under normal use. Let me
know if there is more information that I should provide.

Best regards!

Please grab a stacktrace of the failure.

To do this get a root shell and run

 killall console-kit-daemon
 gdb console-kit-daemon
 set args --debug --no-daemon
 set pagination 0
 run

then reproduce the problem, and when it crashes type bt in to gdb,
which should give you a stacktrace. Then please attach the whole output
of the gdb session to this bug.

[Bug 269651] Re: console-kit-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash()

2008-10-18 Thread iponeverything
I have a recipe.

After much observation and trial error. I have a recipe to get
console-kit-daemon to segfault every time on my machine. First off --
use su and not sudo for what follows.

open an xterm, su and attach a an strace to it just so you can rejoice when you
see it fall down.
strace -p pid ; cp /var/run/Consolekit/* /tmp

open another xterm -- do not su
- from this xterm open additional xterm's like so:xterm -geometry 20x10
open 9 or 10 of them.

- now go thru and su in all of the open xterms.

- Next go thru and close each window one by one by using the close
button in the upper rightcorner -- by the time you get to the forth
or fifth window -- console-kit-daemon will have segfault'ed for you.

oh joy!

[Bug 269651] Re: console-kit-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash()

2008-10-15 Thread iponeverything
I have to say that I excited to see that this bug was fixed.. But alias
-- I am still getting crashes after my update to the latest console-kit-
daemon.

Before the fix:

After the fix:

[Bug 274780] Re: [intrepid] RT61pci no wireless on resume from suspend with 2.6.27-4

2008-10-03 Thread iponeverything
Dist upgrade to Intrepid today quite nice. rt61pci with levelone
wpc-0301 won't comeback after suspend unless I reinsert the card. With
regard to rt61pci and nm-applet playing together nicely -- well done --
it is an improvement and things worked pretty well before. Suspend
issue is not a big deal for me - maybe it will be fixed in 2.6.27-5.8 --
thanks

[Bug 90243] Re: [rt61] Lockups running Feisty on x86-64

2008-10-03 Thread iponeverything
Went Intrepid today -- The events/0 problems is gone. It was perhaps a
the relationship between the version nm-manager in 8.04 and rt61pci
driver in 2.6.27-4.

For me this issue is gone with Intrepid and 2.6.27-4.

many thanks

[Bug 200142] Re: hardy alpha 6 rt61 wireless kernel panic

2008-10-01 Thread iponeverything
What I am now seeing with linux-image-generic_2.6.27-4.6 -- works well
-- except:

resume from suspend has problems --- a process called event/0 goes
bonkers, cpu load pegs and the system becomes unusable as keyboard
input no longer works. Sometimes removing the card will snap event/0
out it, sometimes not.

[Bug 90243] Re: [rt61] Lockups running Feisty on x86-64

2008-10-01 Thread iponeverything
linux-image-2.6.27-4-generic and rt61pci on my machine has serious
problems with resume from suspend. events/0 pegs the cpu at 100% and
keyboard becomes unresponsive. It happens on about 80% of time, the
other 20% of time it will resume fine - but removing the network card
and reinserting it will cause the issue after the case of a initial
successful resume.

This problem does not happen with 2.6.24-19-generic and version 2.1.4 of
the rt61pci in linux-backports-modules.

[Bug 90243] Re: [rt61] Lockups running Feisty on x86-64

2008-09-29 Thread iponeverything
I have a level one wpc-301 v4 that is affected by rt61pci lockup issue
in hardy using 2.6.24-19-generic and version 2.0.10 of the rt61pci
module. I slapped on linux-backports-modules which seemed to resolve
the issue with the hard lockups, but activity light on the card stayed
lit regardless of activity.

I have now installed linux-image-2.6.27-4-generic_2.6.27-4.6_i386, and
so far all seems good, as it has not locked up yet and problem with
activity light is gone.
