[Bug 538372] Re: new Ubuntu 10.04 themes don't properly support RTL languages

2010-03-16 Thread IsraeliHawk
at first, i thought the bug is a duplicate of Bug #532633
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-themes/+bug/532633),
since Marián Bača (https://launchpad.net/~majoobaca), the reporter,
describes the issue in his first sentence..

yet again, it isn't the main issue, so i reverted the idea

2010-03-15 Thread IsraeliHawk
IMHO, i think we can all save the trouble of configuring the theme to
RTL and making the text display on the right end side when using RTL
locale, and simply center it. i don't understand why we're bothering
ourselves with this..

[Bug 538372] [NEW] title should be centered in the new Ubuntu 10.04 themes

2010-03-13 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

Like in most Ubuntu themes, a centred title look professional, and
accurate when using RTL languages

here's an example to illustrate my point:
http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/2158/screenshot3l.png

Therefore, i offer centring the title in the windows border. It'll give
the theme a slick, professional look, relevant to all languages -- left

2010-03-13 Thread IsraeliHawk
obviously it's your call Chris, yet i want to emphasise i filed this bug
not out of some caprice to left aligned titles (we all know Dust), but
simply due to the fact that it's going to be the Official Theme for an
upcoming LTS version. nevertheless should we consider all the hard work
that was done to make this theme look as good as it does.

thanks again

[Bug 537935] [NEW] gnome-power-manager doesn't hibernate - simply crashes

2010-03-12 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

hey all,

after checking a bug reported in Ubuntu-IL forums, i noticed there's a
common problem with hibernating, specifically with gnome-power-manager.
Tested on more than one type of PC (from laptop to netbook) the computer
indicates the low battery, yet even though the configuration is correct,
it doesn't hibernate, but simply continues to work, and when the battery
is completely empty, it shuts down like a desktop computer getting
unplugged.

The user reported tried using Kpowersave, and found out it works much
better, controlling the configuration without issues..

cheers

[Bug 381885] Re: no mic boost in ALSA on Dell Inspiron 1525 and Jaunty 9.04

2010-03-12 Thread IsraeliHawk
thank for reminding me.. i thought i updated this bug.

using 9.10 i can proudly claim the issue is solved. thanks to the new
mixer, a mic volume bar was added, and it's working much better. also,
if anyone experienced an issue with his mic while using Skype, just
remove the tick in the options menu were Skype says 'allow Skype to
automatically adjust my mixer levels' - mic will then be controllable..

thanks!

[Bug 529539] [NEW] okular PDF copy in Hebrew (or any RTL) pastes opposite

2010-02-28 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: okular

when trying to copy from PDF files (which allow copying, like converted
.odt files) in Okular, i successfully do the task in English, but in RTL
languages (such as Hebrew and Arabic) -- pasting it makes the text
opposite (tested on gedit, Oo 3.1.1, and Google Docs).

doing the exact same process with Adobe Reader 9 (from the repos.)
pastes text perfectly.

[Bug 524517] [NEW] okular word search in Hebrew (and other RTL languages) is opposite

2010-02-19 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdegraphics

hey all,

using Gnome Ubuntu 9.10, i really prefer KDE's Okular above all PDF
readers. the only issue which really disturbs me is the word search
(that i found to be the best among ALL the pdf readers in Linux, IMO):
it works fine, but when searching in a RTL language (such as Hebrew) you
most write the word in the opposite letter direction so that your word
will be found..

for exapmle, if i want to look for the word 'lesson', that in Hebrew is שיעור -
i'll need to write it the other way around, like this: רועיש
now i know Hebrew isn't your strong side :P so in English, 'lesson' should look
like this: 'nossel'

[Bug 517989] [NEW] compiz enhanced zoom effect not working when projecting through HDMI/DVI/S3

2010-02-06 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

hey all,

using compiz in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, i often plug my laptop (Dell
Inspiron 1525) to a HD TV or larger screen. when doing so, after
pressing the Fn+F8 combo (as coded in the laptop) the screen reduces the
resolution to 1024x768 (or 800x600) in order to project/synchronise with
the new screen.

Everything works, including many of the compiz effects, discluding the
Enhanced Zoom effect.

i tested this in more than one TV/screen -- with HDMI, DVI and S3 -- and
the problem is always the same..

there is still a lot of work to be done within the responsiveness of the

enclosed herewith is the AWN issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/awn/+bug/478790)

i truly hope this will be resolved in Lucid..

[Bug 391852] Re: Avant Windows Navigator AWN minimize crash in Jaunty 9.04

2009-10-29 Thread IsraeliHawk
in continuation to what i filed a while ago, this bug also occurs when
using any keyboard shortcut.

Avant Windows navigator (AWN) disappears After closing a window with a keyboard
shortcut (even a default one, such as Alt+F4).
First Alt+F4 makes the icons disappear, and the second one makes the bar
disappear. Again, AWN is gone, but continues to work in the processes.

This some sort of crash, make the dock disappear, and when i start it again, i
actually have 2 processes running..

[Bug 462926] [NEW] ubuntu's site tour link leads to 8.10 tour

now, i know the page will be updated tomorrow, but this will probably

[Bug 416315] [NEW] goldendict uses too much memory when in action

2009-08-20 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: goldendict

hi all,

i really like Goldendict, and find it as a great replacement to
Stardict.

One main problem is the memory leaks that occurs every time i search a
term, or mark a word and load the pop-up menu. It's very systematic --
when i do so, the memory leaps to 100% (i have a Dell Inspiron 1525
Laptop, Core 2 Duo and 2GB memory.. the hardware is new..) for approx. 4
sec. and when i minimize/close the pop-up window -- the bars set back to
idle/5-10%.

issue to be solved in time.

[Bug 404363] [NEW] desktop icons aren't alighned automatically in RTL languages (Hebrew, Arabic)

2009-07-24 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

In my Mom's computer the localization is in Hebrew, meaning that all menus,
folders, and Desktop icons are RTL.
As an End-User, every time my Mom downloads something, or drags a file/shortcut
to the desktop, the icon doesn't align itself to the grid of the other icons
automatically, but instead lands in one area (usually the top right).

Yet, the bug doesn't stop there. If that icon is left there, the upcoming icons
that will be added to the desktop will land right on top of it, creating a
lovely stack as shown in the pic:
http://www.ubuntu-il.com/forums/download/file.php?id=27
http://www.ubuntu-il.com/forums/download/file.php?id=26
(credits to Shezif for posting the pics..)

Considering that many users prefer the localize system language, and not
plain English, i hope this is solvable quickly..

In any case, thanks in advance..

Regards,

Uri

[Bug 395439] [NEW] ubuntu CUPS doesn't prevent multiple printing (or the same document)

2009-07-04 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

hi all,

due to the request in this post in Ubuntu Brainstorm:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/20396/
i decided to post the bug on this issue..

i believe i can only quote the Rationale as is, written by simbobo:
Many users, especially less computer-literate ones, have sent a document to
the printer, and when it doesn't print, they send it again. I recently opened a
print queue to find the same document 6 times. Normally the problem is a simple
as the printer being switched off, or a cable being unplugged.

I suggest that if the same document is sent more than once to a printer
that there should be a notification of this, and maybe a dialogue
confirming that you want to send the document multiple times.

the solutions are your decision, whether you decide using any..

thanks in advance..

[Bug 391852] [NEW] Avant Windows Navigator AWN minimize crash in Jaunty 9.04

2009-06-24 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avant-window-navigator

hi all,

i'm using Jaunty 9.04, and weirdly every time i minimize manually my windows
(through a keyboard shortcut i made.. Alt+z), the dock disappears after i press
the minimize button only on the desktop (when all other windows are
minimized..) i'm using the updated Intel chips drivers (Dell Inspiron 1525,
Intel X3100) from this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582

first, the icons on the dock vanish, and impossible to retrieve. Then,
after another press, the dock itself disappears..

the only way to re-enable it is by launching it again..

another problem, is that through the sys. monitor, although it crashed,
it is still running.. so i am actually running more than one process of
Avant..

i doubt you'll see anything in the Terminal, but i added it anyways, and
enabled the problem to see if anything comes up:

**

[Bug 390223] Re: Suspend causes logoff in Jaunty 9.04

2009-06-23 Thread IsraeliHawk
update: forgot to mention i updated to the Intel X3100 latest drivers
through the repos. from the
[url=http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582]Jaunty Intel
Graphics Performance Guide[/url] in Ubuntu Forums.

In addition, i only applied the usafeu config. without changing the
kernel and so forth (i did it by accident, and then removed all trace
through Synaptic..)

never had this bug before, and i hope it'll be solved soon, since i find
it very dangerous while working.

Specs - Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop

thanks again..

[Bug 384154] [NEW] Stardict Sound Bug in 9.04

2009-06-05 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: stardict

hey all,

i'm using stardict on Jaunty, and i'm familiarized with it from 8.04.
great Babylon replacement..

the new version that comes with 9.04 (3.0.1) has a voice pronunciation
option, but it is very annoying when using other languages then English
(such as Hebrew, for this matter). i tried disabling it, removing the
shortcut files from the options menu - but nothing. it still makes that
awful sound..

i also tried restarting the software, and even the pc, but again -
nothing.

in general, even for the English terms, the pronunciation is buggy, and
doesn't work well..

will be glad to disable this feature, if possible

thanks in advance..

[Bug 381843] [NEW] can't write in english in login screen with hebrew default

2009-05-30 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

hi all,

i have an extremely weird issue. i installed in my Mom's desktop 9.04.
works great. i installed it with English as default and Hebrew as
supported (for typing, etc.). i changed in the keyboard layout the
default lang. to Hebrew, and realized i made a fatal mistake by pressing
within that menu 'apply system wide'.

now, i can't login to the system, due to the fact in the login screen i
can't change the language to English, and the Hebrew lang. which is RTL,
and lightens the 'scroll lock' button when enabled, is shown without the
scroll lock button lightened..

will appreciate all the help

thanks in advance..

[Bug 381885] [NEW] no mic boost in ALSA on Dell Inspiron 1525 and Jaunty 9.04

2009-05-30 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

hi all,

i am using a clean install of Jaunty on a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop. at
8.10, the mic worked fine, since it had in the ALSA preferences a 'mic
boost' bar to customize.. but for some reason, at 9.04 it's gone. when i
use the sound recorder, skype or other mic-using software, i can barely
hear myself..

(alsactl version 1.0.18)

this is really annoying, since the mic is working, but barely..

thanks in advance..

BTW, alsa doesn't exist in Launchpad.. weird.. so i chose alsa-driver.
hope this fits..

[Bug 346095] Re: notify-osd doesn't honor my preference

2009-05-20 Thread IsraeliHawk
after reading most of the aforementioned posts.. i doubt if anyone
posted the small fact (among the lack of the notifications' positioning)
that they're not themed correctly.

When i change the ICON theme set to be different than the default HUMAN
theme, the theme is changed, and not for the better. no matter which
theme i'll use, it'll always be the same secondary theme. i noticed
it's no meant to be that way, and that each icon theme has a 'status'
folder within it, so why won't the notification OSD use it for the icon
set?

hope this will be solved soon (like the Intel driver.. but that's
another story :) )

[Bug 378346] [NEW] Notifications aren't customizable

2009-05-19 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

hey all,

i am using Jaunty (obviously), and i noticed that the notifications
system isn't customizable AT ALL.

first up, the menu isn't seen by default. i looked it up in the 'edit menus'
menu, and added it up.
second, the options within it don't change a thing. not the location, and not
the theme.
third, and most annoying, is the fact that when i change the ICON theme set to
be different than the default HUMAN theme, the theme is changed, and not for
the better. no matter which theme i'll use, it'll always be the same
secondary theme. i noticed it's no meant to be that way, and that each icon

2009-04-21 Thread IsraeliHawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

hi all,
i installed almost a week ago the 9.04 RC, and i really enjoy it. I formatted
the HD in order to have EXT4.
Since it's a fresh install, i added, just like i did when i had 8.10, the
Medibuntu repos. i tried, but until today (5 days or so) synaptic didn't update
the packages within it, so i can't install Skype, or Acroread or
Mozilla-acroread plugin and so forth..

i checked within the Terminal, and so that there's a massive ignorance

[Bug 89741] Re: Title bar not drawn on maximized windows when desktop effects are enabled

2009-04-15 Thread IsraeliHawk
hi all,

my problem is similar but the Titlebar (meaning the writings in it, the
decoration is fine) isn't shown when Compiz is enabled..
i can't upload any pics, so it'll be a little hard to explain.. i have Ubuntu
8.10 with Hebrew and Arabic locale (the menus are in English though) and when i
use metacity, everything is working fine.
In the same window, when i enable Compiz, the headline is GONE (in Emerald i
can see the edges of the headline in the far right corner of the titlebar).

This happens only with Hebrew and Arabic sentences only (probably
because it's RTL). in English it works fine.

thanks in advance..

[Bug 350302] [NEW] Alt+Tab between windows makes Tab go crazy

2009-03-28 Thread israelihawk
Public bug reported:

hi all,
Every once in a while, whenever i press the Alt+Tab combination to switch
between windows, Tab goes crazy and continue to be PRESSED while i am not
pressing it.. (this is quite scary when working in office documents.. but also
in Firefox and other apps.)

i checked the speed of the tab by pressing it normally by myself, to
see if there's something wrong with my hardware, God for bid. I noticed
it's a hole lot slower... meaning that my Dell Inspiron 1525 is ok. the
only way i found to cancel this craziness, is by pressing esc.

again, this doesn't always happen, but when it does, it's very
annoying.. and destructive in some cases.

i am using 8.10, with Compiz working properly (somehow i have a hunch it
has something to do with this..)

thanks in advance..

in the configuration by default, but not in the chat windows. i can't send nor
receive a webcam. nudges (which are in the same menu, within the chat window)
work. and there's also a notification the i sent or received one.. but the
camera send/request doesn't respond at all..

any ideas?

thanks in advance

[Bug 327634] [NEW] cheese webcam tool doesn't take a picture

2009-02-10 Thread israelihawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cheese

hi all,

i filed a bug (that was solved!! thanks!!) about cheese before:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cheese/+bug/314464

now it works great, but when i take a picture, after the flash effect,
it doesn't show me the screen, but just the white effect of the flash.
everything still works, even cheese, nothing freezes. i solve this by
moving (with the keyboard, the desktop isn't seen, but if i press
anything around it, it'll be affected like a normal session..) to the
left/right desktop, and through gnome system monitor terminate it. when
i come back, i notice (again, proving me it works..) that the picture
was saved..

thank for all the help!!

[Bug 319224] [NEW] firefox mouse button 1 bug

2009-01-20 Thread israelihawk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

hi all,

whenever i use firefox, sometimes when i click in the menu, instead of opening
the menu, it somehow creates a selection click, and chooses the first option in
that menu.
for example, by pressing the mouse on the Bookmarks Tab, i automatically get
the 'add bookmark' window. or by clicking the history tab, i automatically find
myself in the last page...

very weird, but everything else works :)

[Bug 165117] Re: Broken Image/Road Overlays on Google Earth

2009-01-07 Thread israelihawk
hi all,

i add this bug report as a comment because i already added it into the
medibuntu package/repo.
a couple of problems i have with GoogleEarth
1. doesn't load without sudo before the command. if so, i see only the stars.
2. compiz needs to be DISABLED in order for it to work. probably due to my
Intel X3100 graphics card, (bad drivers..?)
3. version 4.2 crashes after a second of load, and proper picture. 4.3 works
fine. only few bugs on the bottom (can't see the written words properly -
(streaming etc.)

at first, i thought this had to do with the software itself, but then i figured
it's a problem with the Xorg and the intel X3100 chip
also, Trip, i would like to know which packages did you install in order to
make it work (it works much better than in my laptop..) and whether you use
compiz fusion when you use it...

thanks in advance,

hope one day this intel issue will be solved..

[Bug 311944] [NEW] buggy screen after suspend mode

2008-12-28 Thread israelihawk
Public bug reported:

i have a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop, with Intel X3100 Graphics Card (no
other option in this laptop..)

many times, after resuming from 'suspend' mode, the screen gets all
buggy, but functional - just very buggy.

the only solution for this is ctrl+alt+backspace (=manual logout) or
normal logout, or reboot. then everything is ok again.

this is not the only thing buggy with Intel, GoogleEarth is too -
entirely not functional .. but i guess this will be in a new post.. if
i'll ever find the time..

other than these, everything is great :)

thanks in advance..

[Bug 296990] [NEW] windows won't restore from minimize to desktop

2008-11-11 Thread israelihawk
Public bug reported:

hi everyone,

very weird indeed. i am using ubuntu intrepid 8.10 and enjoying every
moment. sometimes i experience this weird bug: when i use many windows,
and minimize them (no matter whether through the keybord shortcut or the
'show desktop' button) they minimize (i use compiz) once with the
effect, and then without. but this isn't the point.

the point is that i can't restore the windows! if i worked my work is
lost, and i can close it, or end the process, but that doesn't help me
with my lost work (thankfully i have history in firefox, or document
restore in open office)..

update: this happens also with only one (firefox, for example) window
open. and this bug won't leave until i'll end my session and restart..

also, when i click more than once on the show desktop button - the
problematic window closes itself - just as i pressed the close button
(when i start firefox again, it doesn't ask me to restore last session,
because it thinks everything is normal..).

thanks for reading.. hope this will be solved.
