[Bug 1077616] Re: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed
So - I reported this bug over 7 months ago, and no sign at all of any progress? And its only ranked as medium? Surely it should be at the very minimum marked as high, or even critical. This bug, causing hard reboots to be required mutilple times every single day, creates a Ubuntu system that in the real world is unusable for day-to-day work. This bug was also reported on the NVidia Developer Forum 3 months ago btw, and it hasn't even been looked at there either. https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/537302/both-screens-black-xorg- at-100-cpu-overflow-errors-in-xorg-0-log-nvidia-driver-310-14-quadro- fx/#3821607 The signs for a successful resolution/fix, it seems, are not good. From my personal experience, NVidia proprietary support for Ubuntu is still unacceptably poor for my graphics card, as it was for my graphics card before that, and the one before that. Nouveau? Even worse, as it was for my previous graphics card, and the one before that. A totally unusable system, hard locking within around 40 seconds of desktop loading. All bugs reported elsewhere, some going back almost 4 years, not a single one ever addressed or fixed. After 8 years, and after countless hours, days and sometimes weeks of trying to put something *back* into Ubuntu, its business and its community, with a sense of huge sadness I've finally reached the point where I feel any further effort I put in is effort wasted. I had great hopes for Ubuntu, but I feel I can't live in self-denial any more. Ubuntu, for me at least, has been a failed experiment - and I have now lost all faith that that will ever change. Ubuntu, it appears, is never going to provide me with a stable operating system that meets my needs. Its quality and reliability are too woefully inadequate compared to its propritary competitors (MS Windows, OSX, Android). It doesn't matter what component is to blame for that, the end-user experience is the same - unacceptably poor. As such, I'm moving to one of Ubuntu's competitors, and its time for to close my Launchpad account. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077616 Title: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. [Bug 1077616] Re: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed
Updated to 13.04 final today. After rebooting and logging in for the first time, it took 12 minutes for this bug to occur, requiring a hard reboot. Not good. [Bug 1077616] Re: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed

This bug, or something very similar, has still been happening with the latest Ubuntu-supplied NVidia drivers, although only rarely (previously it was several times per day). I'm currently testing with the newest upstream release as requested by Christopher M Penalver in #26. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: Expired = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077616 Title: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. OK, sorry but I jumped the gun slightly there. Unfortunately I am *not* testing the lastest upstream NVidia driver on 13.04 as suggested in #26, as it won't install on my system (and yes, I have followed the README instructions exactly from http://uk.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux- x86_64/310.40/README/installdriver.html). I'm not prepared to take any more risks of knackering my system by manually hacking xorg.conf files etc, as this is my ***production machine*** and I need it for getting real work done!
@Christopher M Penalver - hi, I've been trying out the latest daily Raring 13.04 build with the Nouveau driver. As with all five previous versions of Ubuntu I've had installed on this machine, it makes my system rather unstable (using NVidia GT215/GT240 graphics card btw) resulting in hard reboots being required within minutes of loading the Desktop. Whether this is related to the the bug using the NVidia binary blob I can't say, as I'm not seeing much in the log files that means anything to me. The end-user experience however is identical - the screen locks up, keyboard and mouse become unresponsive, I (usually) can't ctrl+alt+F5 etc, meaning I have to do a cold reboot via the on/off button. The only clues I can see right now are in the syslog file - I've attached the latest example for this crash. In this case, my machine was on for 19 minutes before the crash. I believe things started to go wrong at 00:58:19, and then at 00:58:51 I get: Feb 10 00:58:51 COOLERMASTER kernel: [ 1506.331437] nouveau E[ DRM] GPU lockup - switching to software fbcon Unfortunately, I can't really offer any more than that at this stage... ** Attachment added: syslog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1077616/+attachment/3522665/+files/syslog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077616 Title: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. @Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) - unfortunately due to current work and studying pressures, and the fact this is my production/work machine, I won't have time to do that. [Bug 1077616] Re: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed
@Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) - apologies for the delay in replying. I can confirm that I'm still seeing this bug, and I've experienced it with all three of the NVidia drivers that you refer to. Unfortunately I can't say of its a problem or not with the Nouveau driver, as Nouveau doesn't work well with my graphics card (GT240) - with Nouveau my system usually freezes within a couple of minutes of logging in due to a completely separate problem, so it may be that with Nouveau there just isn't enough time for this bug to manifest itself... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077616 Title: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. [Bug 1077616] [NEW] (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed
Public bug reported: (Bug reported as requested by Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) - see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1063156) Random hard locks on fresh installs of Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bit), requiring hard reboot. [Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme
@Pedro - OK, perhaps this is a bug with gnome-settings-daemon, rather than Nautilus. I didn't mean to appear rude, but I am not a developer, so I'd don't know which it is (I'm just trying to be helpful, and to report bugs and get issues fixed). If this is a bug in gnome-settings- daemon, then I feel the bug should be passed on to somebody who deals with gnome-settings-daemon, rather than just being marked as invalid. @everybody - I'm still getting this bug on Lucid 10.04 final. It has happened with my own icon and GTK2.0 themes, and also with the default Lucid themes. @Willjcroz - yup, thats exactly what happens to me... @Ihotari - thanks for suggesting that workaround - I'll give it a try. -- nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 508632] Re: [FFe] Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone
I also miss this functionality, as in my day-to-day work, I am very frequently copying file paths from Nautilus and pasting them into a terminal. This change just causes me aggravation, and has severely slowed down my workflow. At times, I have now found myself using Dolphin because its quicker and easier to use to perform the regular tasks I need to perform. If the change was considered necessary, then there should have been an option in Nautilus Properties to switch the button back on if that is what a user wants. Linux and FOSS is meant to be about choice and freedom, after all. Telling users to use Ctrl+L is not a valid response to this problem. That is not a solution, it is a workaround for power users. No regular users know about this shortcut. In fact, most experienced users won't know about this shortcut. I certainly didn't. Keyboard shortcuts are there to provide power users who can remember shortcuts with a way to perform regular tasks quicker. They should NEVER be a complete replacement for GUI-based functionality. This breaks one of the biggest, most basic rules of GUI design. -- [FFe] Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 565874] [NEW] Hardware Sensors Applet 0.4.0 forgets settings after rebooting
Public bug reported: Hi, I'm using AWN 0.4.0 on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 Beta2, on an Intel Q9650-based quad-core system. What happens: After setting up the Hardware Sensors applet and rebooting my machine, some of the changes to the settings are lost. I enclose two screenshots - before and after rebooting - to show what happens. In the first screenshot, I have un-ticked CPU Temperature because I don't want this to be displayed, and selected Core 0 to be chosen for the Sensors displayed in icon. Everything works fine, and the temperature for CPU 0 is shown on top of the icon in the AWN taskbar. In the second screenshot - after rebooting - CPU Temperature is ticked again. Also, the Sensors displayed in icon defaults back to HDD Temp (ST3402111AS) - and the HDD Temp is shown on top of the icon in the AWN taskbar. What should happen: Hardware Sensors applet should remember the changes I have made. Is this reproducible? Yes - every time. [Bug 529794] [NEW] Lucid 10.04 Alpha3 network-manager 0.8 fails to connect on boot Huawei E172 3G USB modem ***regression***
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager Firstly, apologies but Apport on Lucid 10.04 Alpha3 won't let me report a bug for network-manager as tells me that The problem cannot be reported: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package. I've tried every way to report this bug properly but to no avail. What happens: On boot, network-manager 0.8 fails to automatically start my network connection using my Huawei E172 3G USB modem stick, leaving me with no Internet connection. I have to physically unplug the stick and plug it in again, and then network-manager starts the connection. This was working perfectly through Alpha 1 and Alpha2, up to network-manager/nm-applet v0.799. It only broke a couple of days ago when network-manager/nm-applet was upgraded to v0.8 - so I consider this to be a regression. is this reproducible: Yes, every time. What should happen: Network connection using Huawei E172 USB modem should auto-start on boot. Please can you let me know what config and log files you need, so I can attach them to this bug report. @Draycen - I've been scratching my head trying to work out the cause of this bug. Do you have an ideas about what might be corrupted, to cause this problem? @Draycen. Hello again. No joy with Jaunty 9.10 I'm afraid, I was hoping I might have time to do a fresh install at the weekend and install all the packages again, but unfortunately I didn't have time. However, the good news is I haven't managed to reproduce the bug on my Lucid 10.04 Alpha 2 install. I have installed almost everything on Lucid that I had on Jaunty, and gnome-panel always starts OK. The only thing I haven't tested yet is google-desktop-linux. @mikef187 and trev - I'm not sure if what you guys are seeing is the same bug as me. With this bug, gnome-panel fails to start at all, and so I have no panels at either the top or the bottom of the screen.
