[Bug 1724639] Re: Bug in Kernel 4.13 : Intel Mobile Graphics 945 shows 80 % black screen

2018-02-20 Thread J. Janel
The 'grub workarounds' DID work for me (Lubuntu 16.04 on 1000H; once I
stumbled across right search keywords, they are 'easy' do/try, tho I
don't understand HOW they work).

Looks like it's fixed in 4.15:

(I wish I knew/understood how/what)

Re: [Bug 498685] Re: 910 fails to recover from sleep mode, then won't reboot

2010-04-24 Thread janel
I'm sorry but I completely lost the OS shortly after reporting this bug (so
I suppose you could say it is still an issue). Computer would not boot.
Karmic had made my system completely unstable. Since then I've been
travelling abroad so haven't been using the PC. When I get back I'm going
to use the disc and hoping I'll be able to retrieve some of my files and
then I'll upgrade to the latest edition of Ubuntu, but I'll do a complete
reinstall. I felt fairly pissed off about it at the time, but I'm over it
now.

 Hi janel,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p linux 498685

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
  Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've
tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag.
This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

 Thanks in advance.

Re: [Bug 501196] Re: player won't play bbc radio listen again programmes

2010-01-28 Thread janel
Thank you for the response Tommy. Actually, this wasn't the only problem I
had after upgrading to Karmic. Firefox kept crashing. I reported this bug
and got a message asking me to report it using apport. When I did that I
got an error message telling me to upgrade tzdata. When I did that I fried
my hard drive. Currently the affected pc won't boot up. I'm going to have
to use the Karmic disc to attempt to retrieve my files. I have another
desktop running Karmic which is also buggy. Ultimately, I think my solution
to the problem is to do a fresh install of 10.04 from a disc, butn in the
meantime I'm travelling for 6 months, so I won't be doing anything until
June. Karmic was not a success from my point of view.

Hi -- I just saw your reported bug about mplayer and I tried opening the
url in a terminal as you specified:

 $ mplayer
 rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk:554/radio4fmcoyopa/radio_4_fm_-_tuesday_1656.ra

and it works on my machine. (Funny -- I was looking at bugs like yours
because mplayer crashes on this machine when I click the icon. But now I
 believe I know why.)

There are other packages that are installed at the same time as mplayer
that could have caused the crash. I would suggest you might try
reinstalling mplayer and/or make sure it has what it needs to decode
 RealAudio streams.

I briefly had the Medibuntu repository on this system and it could be
that an updated package came from there. You might have a look at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu and see if you want to try
 using it.

(By the way, the earlier comments about your bug report were because you
accidentally collected data for the terminal program itself and not the
mplayer program. If you open mplayer and use System Monitor you can find
the process ID of mplayer while it is running. Then you can use apport-
bug ID to collect the data from mplayer. Some Ubuntu-supported apps
include a Report a Problem item in the Help menu that does the
collection in one step, but neither mplayer nor gnome-mplayer does.)

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please generate an apport
 crash report for this?
You can enable apport for one instance like this:
 sudo service apport start force_start=1

I am marking this invalid as apport will open a new bug when the crash
is generated. If it does not, you can reset the status of this one to
New and we will try something else.

Re: [Bug 501196] Re: player won't play bbc radio listen again programmes

2009-12-31 Thread janel
Sorry, this doesn't mean anything to me. I'm just following the
instructions for reporting a bug. I don't even know if you want a reply to
your email or not.

The message in terminal said : It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in
your drivers _or_ in your
 gcc version.

I don't know what a gcc version is either. The message also gave a link for
reporting a bug in mplayer, but it was a link to a document that does not
exist.

I've spent three weeks trying to sort this problem out. I've had several
people on the forums advising me, but got nowhere. I have no idea what to
do about it. I'm going to wait for 10.04 to come out and then do a fresh
install. Maybe that will fix it.

2009/12/31 Dave Gilbert ubu...@treblig.org

This really doesn't look like gnome-terminal, probably mplayer or one of
 the codecs.

On the second attempt to boot I got the same message but with these
lines at the beginning:

usb-id(434):unable to access '/devices/pci:00/:001a.1/usb/4-1'
usb-id (437): unable to access '/devices/pci:00/:00:1a.1/usb4/4-2.

Re: [Bug 495565] Re: bbc iplayer will not play in listen again mode on 9.10

2009-12-13 Thread janel
Sorry Alex, but it hasn't been fixed, and it is a problem that only affects
iplayer running on 9.10

2009/12/11 Alex Wardle awar...@gmx.com

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This problem is with the iplayer, not Firefox and as far
as I can tell it has been fixed.

 ** Changed in: firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Invalid

Status in “firefox-3.5” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

This problem concerns radio only. Since I'm outside the UK I can only
receive audio on the BBC iplayer, not video.

BBC iplayer works in listen live mode, but not in listen again mode
(i.e to play a programme that has already been aired). When a listen again
programme is selected on the BBC webpage, the BBC iplayer starts up, but
then displays the message content does not seem to be working, try again
later. It does this for all listen again programmes. The BBC iplayer is
working fine on two other pcs running 8.04, and was working on this pc with
 9.04, so definitely a problem with 9.10.
