[Bug 1893065] Re: Gnome applications launching very slow

2020-08-27 Thread Jefferson
Hi!

After running nautilus from the command line, I received a log showing
what is happening in my case. The problem is generated by the gphoto2
services.

To fix it, I removed the service. After that, the Nautilus and Gnome
applications that depend on file system services returned to work fine
again.

I have opened a issue in gphoto2 repositoy on Github for investigation
and fix. The link with bug description is:
https://github.com/gphoto/gphoto2/issues/361#issuecomment-681670207

[Bug 1716857] Re: gdm3, hybrid nvidia with modeset=1, no external monitors detected

2019-01-16 Thread Jefferson H. Xavier
Same issue in here on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS. I have a Dell G3 3579 with Nvidia
Geforce 1050TI. I've tried to use a Samsung SmartTV as a secondary display
connected to HDMI port but Gnome settings only shows laptop display. I've
tested drivers 390, 396, 410, and 415 without success. This issue doesn't
occurs using lightdm instead of gdm3.
I think developers have to solve this issue that has been reporting since
2017-09-13 and people who wants do use a external HDMI TV/Monitor to play
games, like me, will face this issue.

[Bug 1746590] [NEW] unity panel service error: system crashes/unresponsive on every panel buttons click

2018-01-31 Thread Jefferson Ferreira-Ferreira
Public bug reported:

Since more or less a month ago I experienced OS crashes when clicking
any panel button (calendar, volume, battery, etc). Only the mouse
pointer still moves, but the system becomes totally unresponsive so I
have to force power-off. I checked my syslog and the message before the
power-off was:

Jan 16 14:13:07 jeco-pc kernel: [18048.538695] unity-panel-ser[1871]:
segfault at 1ac32 ip 00406ea9 sp 7ffeedafe0a0 error 4 in
unity-panel-service[40+12000].

I thought it was a similar issue as reported in
https://askubuntu.com/questions/992571/gui-unity-crashing-in-16-04-lts-
after-updates-2018-01-04-compiz-segfaults. So I followed instructions
and installed libgl1-mesa-dri from xenial-proposed. After that, the
system worked well for a few days and then again presented the same
problem.

I checked my syslog again and the message was:

Jan 17 09:38:12 jeco-pc kernel: [ 2911.154812] traps: unity-panel-
ser[1994] general protection ip:406ea9 sp:7ffc881ee780 error:0 in unity-
panel-service[40+12000].

Following instructions posted in the question #663175 in launchpad, I
ran an apt-get dist-upgrade. After that, the system worked well for one
day. But now, the problem returned with the log:

Jan 31 15:56:19 jeco-pc kernel: [ 3005.862110] unity-panel-ser[2200]:
segfault at 61 ip 00406ea0 sp 7ffce922d1c0 error 4 in unity-
panel-service[40+12000]

Again, any click on a panel button means a system crash and a forced
power-off.

OP here, I installed the 4 packages here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-
daemon/3.24.1-0ubuntu2/+build/12460693 (change log has that patch)

However the issue still persists. On startup, everything is still tiny.
Large text button still does nothing.

[Bug 1685035] [NEW] GDM login doesn't scale on Hi-DPI display

2017-04-20 Thread jefferson
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu gnome 17.04, gnome 3.24. On high resolution display, 3200x1800,
login screen is too tiny to read. GDM login screen doesn't reflect
changes to org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor or text-scaling-

Eg:
xhost +SI:localuser:gdm
sudo su gdm -s /bin/bash
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor 2
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 2.0

no effect.

Creating a gdm user under /etc/dconf and running dconf update has no
effect either. Scaling-factor seems to scale the mouse cursor, but
nothing else.

We need a newer vsftpd on the repository as soon as possible, who knows

I used this handy tool to run system call preliminary benchmarks:

In a nutshell, what I found is a confirmation that live migration does indeed
degrade performance on precise KVM.

have it resolved in 12.04 LTS version.

[Bug 1100843] Re: Live Migration Causes Performance Issues

2013-04-30 Thread Jonathan Jefferson
I have a few VMs (precise) that process high-volume transaction jobs
each night. After I've done a live-migrate operation to replace faulty
power supply on a bare-metal server, we encountered sluggish performance
on the migrated VMs, significant higher CPU is recorded in particular,
where the same nightly job would consume way more CPU and took more time
to finish on identical hardware.

Upon investigation, we noticed that the only change introduced was the
live migrate operation. Upon rebooting the guest OS of the VMs, the
performance is back to normal. I suspect we're hitting the same problem
as the one filed here.. I will attempt to run lmbench next to see if I
would notice similar behavior on system calls costs as the one recorded
in comments #19..21,23.

[Bug 1159612] [NEW] mounted partition is not automatically unmounted at logout

2013-03-24 Thread Mark Jefferson Dela Cruz
Public bug reported:

I have separate partitions on my hard disk. The computer also has
multiple users. When one user logs in and mounts a partition and
afterwards LOGS OUT WITHOUT UNMOUNTING THE PARTITION so another user can
use the computer, the partition is not accessible (that is, it's not on
the DEVICES list). This is very inconvenient to call the other user to
login again to his account to unmount the drive.

[Bug 841971] Re: Sudoku app does not calculate time to solve properly

2012-12-10 Thread David Jefferson
Confirmed for Xubuntu i386 11.10, 12.04, and 12.10.

Disclaimer: I don't know Python, so I could be way off.
Grepping through gnome-games-3.6.0.2/gnome-sudoku/src/lib/ main.py:152 calls
start_timing() during select_game(). Presumably it should go somewhere after
select_game(), like at the end of make_new_game_model() or setup_dialog() in
game_selector.py?

[Bug 1002902] [NEW] nvidia graphics crash on startup

2012-05-22 Thread Christopher Jefferson
Public bug reported:

Since installing the most recent set of updates (which included, among
others, linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic), my machine now hangs during boot,
if I enable nvidia graphics.

I can switch between intel and nvidia graphics in the bios, and the
intel ones work fine. However, dmesg seems to only give me the messages
from this startup, which are less useful.

I have a thinkpad t420s.

[Bug 981168] Re: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch on netbooks-- have to restart X.org.

2012-04-16 Thread jefferson
** Description changed:

Installing any GUI app from the software center breaks the session with
a visual glitch that hides everything. This is probably related to the
new animation when installing apps (the icon flying to the Launcher),
because it only happens when the Software Center is set to lock new apps

I believe this is really bad since this is going to be the default

[Bug 540751] Re: Unable to use dead keys with java and ibus

2011-06-11 Thread Jefferson Andrade
Not really a solution, but the input methods seems to work except for
the deadkeys issue, so what I did was to install the “latn-pre (m17n)”
input method in ibus, so that I can enter the accented characters via
input method instead of the dead keys.

[Bug 540751] Re: Unable to use dead keys with java and ibus

2010-09-28 Thread Jefferson Andrade
I have the same problem.

If I launch a Java application I can switch the input method to Anthy or
Latex, but I have no accented characters, nor can get any character if I
type dead key+space -- it seems that dead key are completed
ignored.

If I launch the Java application as XMODIFIERS='' java-app-name,
than the dead key work as expected, but I can not switch the input
method (so I can't use Anthy or Latex input methods). This is very
frustrating since I have to type text in Portuguese, Japanese and
English.

[Bug 464639] Re: alc660-vd no sound after upgrade kubuntu 9.10

2009-11-05 Thread jefferson costa
ok, solved!!!
remembering The update manager identified some updates, but blocked the
avaliable new kernel (don't know why). Then i get all the avaliable updates
(including new kernel) by using synaptic (i like synaptic) when i restarted
the grub2 was prompting. I tried so many ways to restore the grub, i was almost
about giving up. And made another big mistake= blacked the files : stage1,
stage2 and grub.cfg. The solution: i installed a new kubuntu in other
partition and copy and paste those files to my old partition, Then run : grub
=root=setup and get works without sound. I remembered all this mistakes
today when I read your response end reinstall grub2, the grub2 put the correct
kernel and the sound came.

thank you for help and sorry for wrong sentences.

[Bug 141343] Re: r8169 driver does not work with Realtek PCI-E 8111B integrated network controller

2008-04-29 Thread Dale Jefferson
Update from the forum http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=755002

To compile the working r8168 driver you need to:

sudo apt-get install build-essential
wget ftp://66.104.77.130/cn/nic/r8168-8.006.00.tar.bz2
tar -xjvf r8168-8.006.00.tar.bz2
cd r8168-8.006.00/src

Then copy the attached patch to the r8168-8.006.00/src directory

patch r8168-8.005.00.hardy.diff.txt
cd ..
make clean
make modules
sudo make install
sudo depmod -a
sudo mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd.img-`uname -r` `uname -r`

Then you need to black list the r8169 driver:

sudo sh -c 'echo blacklist r8169 /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-
network'

[Bug 224305] [NEW] oem-config thinks kde is gnome

2008-04-29 Thread Dale Jefferson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: oem-config

I install my systems via pxe boot with a preseed file passing kubuntu-
desktop option to install kde.

Once installed, (KDE desktop, oem user):

oem-config-prepare-gtk.desktop is hidden on the desktop

$ ls /home/oem/Desktop/
oem-config-prepare-gtk.desktop

When i run oem-config-prepare i get the error:

$  oem-config-prepare
exec: 29: gksudo not found

Looks like the wrong frontend is being installed:

$ ls /usr/lib/oem-config/oem-config/frontend/ | grep ui
