[Bug 573242] Re: mobile broadband not orking after upgrade karmic to lucid

2010-05-03 Thread jerzyo
I managed to make it work. After closer look on some forums

$sudo apt-get install usb-modeswitch
$sudo vim /etc/usb-modeswitch.conf
#content of /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf
DefaultVendor = 0x12d1
DefaultProduct = 0x1446
MessageEndPoint = 0x01
MessageContent =
55534243001106
$sudo usb_modeswitch

... And then I can add conection in network-manager
It seems that there is something wrong in the new kernel.

This sounds similar to a problem that I experienced yesterday.

I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.04 recently and formatted every
partition to ext4. Yesterday, I was moving huge video files from my
home directory to a removable USB hard disk (formatted to ext4 as well)
when the system froze permanently (i.e. all hard disks stopped running
completely). I did this with a couple of my other removable USB hard
disks and the same thing happened many times.

The problem can be replicated by copying or moving files within the same
IDE hard disk as well. Just a while ago, the system froze when I
 emptied Trash.

The computer has Windows XP installed, and no such problem problem
 occurs when I'm running it.

However, as far as I know, I have not experienced any data loss.

[Bug 393808] [NEW] gnome-display-properties should allow do display different virtual desktops on different devices

2009-06-30 Thread jerzyo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

When I plug in a monitor to my notebook (ubuntu 9.04) I can mirror my
image or enlarge my desktop to display sth on the second device with
gnome-display-properties.

I thing that there should be a possibility to display different virtual
desktops on different devices. If I have 4 virtual desktops, co should
be able to display first on one device, second on another one etc. I
should also be able to change displays on different devices separately.

** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu)

Re: [Bug 390204] Re: Ubuntu hangs up from time to time when I try to copy files from ATA NTFS to SATA ext4 partition

OK

The computer is currently in the company where I bought it. I installed
windows and got similar problems so it is propably some hardware
problem. I will run your script when I get it back

[Bug 390204] Re: Ubuntu hangs up from time to time when I try to copy files from ATA NTFS to SATA ext4 partition

2009-06-25 Thread jerzyo
Hi

I found that this problem is also not connected with copying from ATA disk.
Today I tried to copy 11GB by scp in local network an got the same, repeatable
hangup (once after 1GB, once after 6.3GB). This time the memory usage was
normal and no swap was being used.
It looks like problem with writing/communicating with hard drive (brand new HDD
seagate 750GB ST3750528AS ext4 partition). I ran fsck on this disk with no
errors detected

I see 2 possibilities
1. The disk is broken (but why should system hang after copying succesfuly so
much data)
2. The ubuntu driver for p5qc are broken somewhere
3. The ext4 system is broken

Is there any way to check if the disk is OK?
I will now to write the same data on the other disk (NTFS) and we'll see

OK, I tried to download it to another disc (the same model but NTFS
partition) and got the same problem. Next step will be to do the same in
Vista and check if hrdware is OK.
