[Bug 1264368] Re: GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID was not found when attempting to remove it - warning when leaving Network menu of g-c-c

2019-02-22 Thread johnnyb0y
Still pumping out messages to syslog:

Feb 22 07:45:04 R2D2 console-kit-daemon[1505]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 69605

Bug is over 5 years old. I have my suspicions that this will never get
fixed.

[Bug 433943] Re: kernel boot broken: init: udevtrigger mainprocess (1283) terminated with status 1

2017-11-14 Thread johnnyb0y
The gift that keeps on giving... I would like to pass on my thanks to
Angel Guzman Maeso (shakaran) for his advice from 8 years ago!

I've just installed 9.10 on an old Compaq SFF (small form factor
business PC) and was hit with a non-booting OS after installing updates
using the old-releases channel.

I followed all the instructions; the only steps that didn't work for me
were steps #8 and #9

I had to perform 'chroot /media/karmic sudo dpkg --configure -a' instead
of the 'apt-get dist-upgrade/apt-get -f install' which then went off to
finish configuring/installing a fairly long list of packages.

So once again, thanks Angel.

[Bug 1264368] Re: GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID was not found when attempting to remove it - warning when leaving Network menu of g-c-c

2015-06-12 Thread johnnyb0y
Occurring still on a different OS (new install of Linux Mint 17 this
time) and over a year has passed since my previous post in April 2014:

Jun 12 12:20:13 R2D2 console-kit-daemon[1211]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 202300

Jun 12 12:21:45 R2D2 console-kit-daemon[1211]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 202366

I get the feeling that this syslog spamming will never be fixed.

[Bug 1453435] Re: package mysql-common 5.6.24-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2

2015-05-11 Thread johnnyb0y
Trying to remove the package results in a pink text box appearing on
screen asking me to confirm the root password for the mysql install?

I tried running 'sudo apt-get update' which tried again to install the
package again failed. A second invocation of the command resulted in the
same asking for confirmation of the root password for mysql - but it
still failed to install.

[Bug 1313042] Re: console-kit-daemon session hang (sometimes w/ Glib-CRITICAL warning)

2014-06-02 Thread johnnyb0y
I 'bit the bullet' and decided to remove consolekit (console kit daemon)
with the following warnings:

sudo aptitude remove consolekit
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  consolekit
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B of archives. After unpacking 473 kB will be freed.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

lxsession-logout : Depends: consolekit but it is not going to be installed.
libpolkit-qt-1-1 : Depends: consolekit but it is not going to be installed.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

 Remove the following packages:

My system now responds much much quicker, my syslog doesn't get filled
with errmsgs every 15 seconds and I'm happy, although my method of
removal was fairly destructive so I wouldn't recommend it ;-)

My ssh connections remotely now work at the expected speed and I can now
log in to my box remotely from work in a couple of seconds, instead of
10 seconds plus.

[Bug 1313042] Re: console-kit-daemon session hang (sometimes w/ Glib-CRITICAL warning)

2014-05-18 Thread johnnyb0y
Errors in my syslog only started after upgrade to 14.04. I noticed it
immediately as a) I check my logs regularly and b) it's bulking out my
syslogs in terms of size on disk

May 18 07:55:33 R2D2 console-kit-daemon[875]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 1660 was
not found when attempting to remove it
May 18 07:55:49 R2D2 console-kit-daemon[875]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 1669 was

not found when attempting to remove it
May 18 07:57:04 R2D2 console-kit-daemon[875]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 1714 was
not found when attempting to remove it

Occurs approximately once every 15 seconds on average and my system feels
somewhat lethargic. Hope this gets fixed soon.

John G

[Bug 444950] Re: sound stops working with pulseaudio

2011-01-10 Thread johnnyb0y
Sam problem here with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and a Soundblaster Audigy card.
This problem has been around for a while, and I normally tend to rid
myself of pulseaudio and install esound instead. However, this causes
problems due to linking with other required apps, so when you choose to
uninstall pulseaudio, it complains about several other dependencies. I
just ignore it and install esound anyway as my sound just works...

I recently rebuilt my system which was running 10.10, and installed
10.04 instead. As per usual, the ratelimit msgs started populating the
syslog and I was getting all the old crackling noises as well. Going to
install esound again now. I'm amazed at 2 things:

1) Why is pulseaudio set to the default when it still doesn't work
properly? And I reiterate that there are several dependencies which
deter people from uninstalling it.

2) That it's taken so long and it's still not fixed?

Current kernel:Linux vanpersie 2.6.32-27-generic #49-Ubuntu
SMP Wed Dec 1 23:52:12 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Soundcard is: 00:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative
Labs SB0400 Audigy2 Value

John Goodwin

[Bug 574815] Re: clock 2.30.0 on ubuntu 10.04 amd64 does not update; times on locations do.

2010-12-31 Thread johnnyb0y
Further to my previous comment #16, I rebuilt my PC recently and opted
to stick with 10.04 LTS. It's incredibly annoying that I'm still getting
hit with this bug.

My Skype icon is permanently grey (even though I am onine) and if I
click to the left on the separator icon, it brings up my Pidgin IM
window - the system knows what should be displayed there, but it's
definitely hung.

I think my best workaround is either run Alt-F2 killall gnome-panel or
simply write a script with a sleep 5 to peform the same when I login
each day.

It's a bit of a kludge to be honest, but it seems to be the only
solution for now. Please get this fixed, as it can't be that hard to
have it working as expected?

Cheers all.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2010-07-17 Thread johnnyb0y
I'm STILL affected by this bug, on different media (External HDD powered
USB2 drives, and flash drives). This is on Lucid Lynx.

TO summarise, I think the frustrations felt by the user community are
valid. Looking at the top of this thread reveals the following rather
pertinent information and it certainly gives the impression that nothing
is being done about it. To inject a little humour, it makes you sound
like Kevin The Teenager ;-) Can't fix, won't fix.

[Bug 458334] Re: Fails repeatably with DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given volume was not found

2009-12-30 Thread johnnyb0y
Ubuntu 9.10 (32 bit)

I second ruffneckc's vote for the phedon post earlier.

This exactly described my problem, and was the solution that worked for
me, for example:

sudo mkfs -t vfat /dev/sdb1

Formatted the USB flash drive.

Then I was able to select the volume not marked with an exclamation
mark, set my size for stored data as 1Gb and away she goes!

Thanks for the original poster phedon's contribution.

gave up!).

Will attempt a similar 'fix/workaround' by making a link to firefox32.
