unfortunately since 'upgrading' to evince 3.28.4

Gallium 3.1 18.04 bionic

it is no longer apparent to me that there is a transparency option
available

[Bug 1878392] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa desktop launchers not working

2020-08-27 Thread jonathan chetwynd
The default position should be that the system creates an 'application' for
each .desktop in ~/.local/share/applications.

it does not, and is rather particular...

in my case requiring full addresses was the issue.

even then, add to favourites was not immediately available,
which is frustrating.

for newbies, and aren't we all, if the 'app' appeared, but did not work,
at least we could have faith...

as it is its just a black box, with no insight as to what the issue may
be.

[Bug 1878392] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa desktop launchers not working

2020-08-26 Thread jonathan chetwynd
I am having a similar experience.

I installed a brand new version 20.04lts today

I can find no instructions that work for me.

in particular 'Allow Launching' is not available
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-create-desktop-shortcut-launcher-on-ubuntu-20-04-focal-fossa-linux

NB the executable is one that is downloaded and installed by me manually,
it runs fine from terminal...

my experience is as described above, disappearing .desktop files, sometimes
available, even sometimes works. but all very kludgy and unprofessional.

Where are the correct instructions that work for fossa?

[Bug 1797557] Re: Bionic updates break upgrade (apt remove libc6-armhf-cross first)

2018-11-22 Thread jonathan chetwynd
to understand how annoying this has become,
when I try to install Synaptic Package Manager
error while installing package: unqble to open
'/usr/arm-linux-gnueabihf/lib/Mcrt1.odpkg-new

yet there is no obvious (to me) reason this is related in any way at
all.

I would just like to remove, but have not found a way.
Please could you help?

You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.

[Bug 1625826] [NEW] bluetooth broken: requires OS X boot

2016-09-20 Thread jonathan chetwynd
Public bug reported:

using mac mini 6.1, dual boot, but only Ubuntu 12.04 LTS used for many
years.

I never had any problem using apple aluminium bluetooth keyboard

I recently upgraded to 16.04, everything was fine for about a month,

then bluetooth failed to load on start,

via search engine eventually discovered workaround, boot into OS X 64bit,
no need to login or anything just pick option and reboot.

then bluetooth just works again.

not clear what stops it working, I had updated today, and was using
keyboard/mouse
when I discovered bluetooth logo missing from top bar

#1001825 may be related? currently 12.04 specific

Mac mini 6.2 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3615QM CPU @ 2.30GHz

had been running UbuntuLTS 14.04 and using Apple Aluminium Keyboard

however after upgrade to 16.04, bluetooth is not coonecting, icon is not
in top bar.

[Bug 1162637] Re: command completion

2014-12-03 Thread jonathan chetwynd
not clear to me this should be closed as Invalid...

Today I had a rather strange experience, have been developing with 14.04 on arm
for a couple of weeks.
maybe 18 years linux experience, but hey amateur.

autocomplete in bash for commands as per ./dosomething has worked fine
eg ./do + Tab and Enter.

however after some small changes and rebuilding with cmake, autocomplete fails
consistently.
the cmake build is one or two files, max 50 lines total.

just to confirm I had not updated, rebooted, changed any system files etc.
fully up to date 14.04.1 LTS 3.13.0-40-generic
it would help me if I could believe this bug was valid...

else cmake and that seems unlikely, but maybe possible.
