[Bug 646891] [NEW] memory measurement is to be in bytes

2010-09-24 Thread jordanwb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

In gnome-system-manager, memory used by a program is measured in
Kibibytes, Mebibytes, or Gibibytes, etc. According to the JEDEC memory
standard, this is incorrect.

Well If I am trying to copy system files IT SHOULD TELL ME WHERE THEY
ARE! That is the whole point of this bug report. It is not telling me
what is wrong and making me aggravated.

[Bug 626940] [NEW] file-roller gives meaningless Permission denied error messages

2010-08-30 Thread jordanwb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

For the last half hour or so I've been trying to make a backup of my
home folder. I have an NTFS partition mounted at
/media/4E05F70A08543D28. I go to my Home Folder and press Ctrl+H to view
all the folders, press Ctrl+A to select all the files, right click and
click Compress. I tell file-roller to save in that NTFS partition. I
click on Create and it immediately says Permission denied without
telling me what it does not have access to. I have full Read/Write
rights on my home folder and on the NTFS partition. So the Permission
denied message is meaningless without telling me why permission has
been denied.

It shouldn't be this hard to make a backup.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: file-roller 2.30.1.1-0ubuntu2

[Bug 620426] [NEW] Odd graphics while using S-Video output

2010-08-19 Thread jordanwb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

I have an ATI Radeon x1600 Pro AGP video card in a HP Workstation xw4100
connected to an LCD TV with a S-Video cable. During POST the graphical
output is normal but while using the terminal the graphics are rather
odd. There are alternating green and purple lines running the width of
the screen about 2 pixels apart and 2 pixels high. While using the text
installer there was no graphical issues. I chose the package linux-image
instead of the specific kernel because a similar issue happens in the
Desktop edition of Ubuntu as well as the Server edition which is
installed right now.

I'll get a picture of the graphics that desktop edition displays.

[Bug 575333] Re: On boot keeps trying to mount UDEVD-WORK..../dev/null

2010-08-01 Thread jordanwb
Background: The hard drive in my laptop died so I took the SSD out of my
desktop machine and put it in my laptop. Updated fstab, update-grub,
grub-install, update-initramfs -c -k all, the whole nine yards.

I'm getting this on an Acer Aspire 5741 using the kernel available in
the kernel ppa (for TRIM support). It does not seem to occur with the
Maverick Meerkat builds.

I'm not sure if this is the same as David Sauvage's problem, but when I
close the lid on my laptop it goes to sleep. When I open the lid and
power up my laptop, I am asked for my password. Unless I type my
password very fast, the unlock screen stalls and I can't enter my
password for a few seconds.

In the .xsession file I posted, there are multiple programs that crashed

sometimes occurs when the screen is not locked. Perhaps the video
drivers are crashing?

[Bug 576731] [NEW] Gnome-do fails to open Home folder

2010-05-06 Thread jordanwb
Public bug reported:

If you trigger Gnome-do and type Home, Home Folder pops up. If you
hit enter, you'll see Starting Home Folder in the window list, but
nautilus never loads. This does not happen to any other shortcut saved

[Bug 576731] Re: Gnome-do fails to open Home folder

2010-05-06 Thread jordanwb
Interestingly enough, if you load gnome-do via gnome-terminal and your
home directory is the current working directory, loading the Home folder
works. The same goes for Alt+F2. Therefore gnome-do cannot open the Home
directory when it autostarts with gnome.

[Bug 528802] Re: mtpfs crashed with SIGSEGV

2010-05-04 Thread jordanwb
I guess mtpfs isn't intelligent enough to put it in the correct
subdirectory. Everytime I cp'd the song, it copied it to the root of the
Music directory so my Zen had 7 listings of the same song.

[Bug 557656] [NEW] gnome-do fails due to MissingIntPtrCtorException

2010-04-07 Thread jordanwb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do

Sometimes when my computer boots up, gnome-do fails to startup with it.
I finally found out about the ~/.xsession-errors file and found this:

support wrapping of native object handles.

[Bug 496796] Re: fsck on boot triggers failsafe x 100% of the time

2010-01-10 Thread jordanwb
For some reason libdbusmenu-glib0 was being held back. When I tried to
force its upgrade through synaptic it wanted to remove ubuntu-desktop
and some indicator packages. In a terminal I ran sudo apt-get -f
install libdbusmenus-glib0, it upgraded and upgraded the packages it
wanted to remove (say what?). 20 Packages were made available for
upgrading, two of which were gdm and xorg. After upgrading those I can
now boot into gnome properly.

I'd like to have some form of visual recognition that I've typed in the

It's currently broken in Jaunty. I cannot open any rar files. It always
says they're corrupted when none of them are. I had to install Alzip
through wine.

[Bug 246811] Re: No obvious way to automatically run / does not run by default

2009-08-16 Thread jordanwb
I agree, however on my laptop tor and privoxy start automatically (which
I don't want). By searching through the /etc/rc#.d/ folders; I found tor
and privoxy in /etc/rc2.d like so:

/etc/rc2.d/S20privoxy
/etc/rc2.d/S20tor

You can make a symlink to /etc/init.d/privoxy and tor if you like.

Yo! I do on my Asus Aspire 5515 laptop. I don't have this problem on my

[Bug 285392] Re: Softreset failed (device not ready)

If you're going to install Jaunty don't use the Release Candidate. The
installer kept failing on me because it couldn't copy some CUPS related
xml file.

[Bug 285392] Re: Softreset failed (device not ready)

2009-04-19 Thread jordanwb
I'm getting the soft reset error on startup only and on Jaunty only. I
have an Acer Aspire 5515 laptop.

lspci:

00:12.0 SATA controller: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 Non-Raid-5 SATA
00:14.1 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc SB600 IDE

I don't know what model mobo I have. all_generic_ide does not work.
