[Bug 128288] Re: thunderbird-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in raise() when replying to an IMAP message

2007-07-29 Thread jsage
OK, based on a suggestion from hairy_palms on ubuntuforums, I switched
from a pixmap GTK+ theme (Crux) back to the default Human theme. The
problems described below go away, Thunderbird functions normally.

Here's a recap of the problems:

1. select a message, click Reply, thunderbird hangs
2. click the Write button, thunderbird hangs
3. double-click a message, click Reply, thunderbird crashes
4. open Preferences, thunderbird hangs
5. open an attachment, thunderbird crashes

note:

hang = frozen, partially updated windows
crash = gone, disappears from desktop and taskbar

again, pixmap themes seem to be the cause of the problem.

thanks,
john

[Bug 88815] Re: Sluggish rendering since xorg 7.2 update

2007-03-01 Thread jsage
This problem has been plaguing me ever since 7.2 hit the repos. I'm
running feisty on a ThinkPad T43p with ATI FireGL V3200 using the open-
source ati driver and aiglx. Beryl and Compiz are unusable.

Conn's description of the problem using Firefox and gnome-terminal apply
to my machine also. I'll add that gnome-system-monitor will peg the CPU
at 100% when displaying the resource graphs.

Following suggestions in this thread:

 http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=372693

I first ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg to create a more
generic xorg.conf (still using ati, but no aiglx). This gave me a
small but noticeable improvement.

I next restored my original xorg.conf, but disabled EXA acceleration.
This has provided the most notable improvement, but still not quite as
good as pre-7.2. Compiz will run without choppiness, but is somewhat
flakey when rotating the cube or alt-tabbing.

My current xorg.conf is attached.

** Attachment added: xorg.conf - ati, aiglx, no EXA

[Bug 59217] Re: [Edgy] gnome-settings-daemon acting up

2006-10-06 Thread jsage
Sebastien,

Thanks for your hard work nailing this down. I've installed the update
and the problem so far has not recurred. I've restarted several times
with and without Beryl, using CTL-ALT-BACKSPACE or full system restart
and have not seen the problem.

thanks again,
john

[Bug 56890] Re: Gnome-settings-deamon fails to start.

2006-09-09 Thread jsage
PingunZ,

Same error dialog as you, same error dialog as saads (see comment above
mine), same affect on themes.

The only difference appears to be in boot behavior. I can fix mine with
ctrl-alt-backspace. Can you?

thanks,
john

Confirming, same details as saads above, including error dialog and
theme problems. Using edgy, theme engine is Murrine .10.

Can fix with ctrl-alt-backspace. Happens on every boot.
