[Bug 626723] Re: gdm restarts on initial login

This started the battery monitor applet without crashing my PC.
I really can't find any reproducible steps for the crash to happen...

[Bug 626723] Re: gdm restarts on initial login

2010-09-04 Thread k3nt-1
Just started my PC this morning and I have been working more than 20 minutes
without a crash. Only missing stuff is the battery monitor applet in my top
panel.
I didn't remove it myself, so it has maybe just failed to start for one reason
or another.
I'll try to unplug my PC see if it causes xorg to crash and will report back
here when it's done.

2010-09-03 Thread k3nt-1
Yes, 625902 is definitely a duplicate of this one (or vice versa). I
marked it as such.

As for the bug, I install from Maverick Beta from DVD on another
computer and I face the same problem.

Both computers I use are HP laptops. One 32 bits and the other in 64.

[Bug 626723] Re: gdm restarts on initial login

2010-09-02 Thread k3nt-1
I face the same problem.
A few remarks and addition:
- My battery is old and does not retain charge anymore
- The characters after "checking battery state" are random (So I suspect a
memory corruption in one component)
- It does not crash directly on log on every time. I once had the time to start
Firefox and open a few tabs before it crashed

This makes me wonder if this is really related to GDM or maybe only to a
battery monitoring service.

[Bug 414181] Re: Update Manager, "install" button does nothing when u-m was opened by itself

2010-08-16 Thread k3nt-1
Just added it to the Paper cut project since I believe this to be the kind of
usability bug that paper cut project intends to fix.
I'm not really sure about the workload to solve it though.
I hope someone will have enough knowledge of update manager to triage it.

[Bug 532659] Re: new theme not applied

2010-07-13 Thread k3nt-1
Hello,

Indeed, the advice of Claudio did work for me too:
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/gdm && sudo aptitude reinstall gdm

Just reinstalling (without suppression of /var/lib/gdm) did not work.
/var/lib/gdm was empty on my computer before I deleted it and it still empty
after reinstallation.

I did not change the default gdm config in Karmic and this did not prevented me
from getting this bug.
I run on AMD 64 bits and did not get this problem on my other laptop (intel 32
bits).

If more info is required, just let me know.

Finally managed to successfully connect to my NFS server.
Steps to solve the problem:
* Add the following line to /etc/nsswitch.conf:
automount: nis files
* Change my /etc/auto.nfs config file by removing the options and leaving only
the local folder and the target

[Bug 573919] Re: autofs doesn't work with lucid

2010-05-04 Thread k3nt-1
Same problem here: NFS disk mounted via autofs does not mount since
upgrade to lucid.

Besides, when trying to stop/restart the service, I encounter the following
result:
$ service autofs restart
restart: Rejected send message, 1 matched rules; type="method_call",
sender=":1.64" (uid=1000 pid=32756 comm="restart)
interface="com.ubuntu.Upstart0_6.Job" member="Restart" error name="(unset)"
requested_reply=0 destination="com.ubuntu.Upstart" (uid=0 pid=1
comm="/sbin/init"))

No workaround so far...

[Bug 521831] Re: keyboard layout settings from "guess keymap" are not kept

Just for the record, the same problem (at least for the Ubiquity part) happens
in the Lucid Alpha 3 Ubiquity (updated before the install).
I have a French keyboard that was correctly detected, but I had to select it

[Bug 462483] [NEW] Sometime pages fail to load properly and display a blank page

2009-10-28 Thread k3nt-1
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Steps to reproduce:
Go to to http://peprtree.com
Expected results:
A page is displayed with an image and some text
What happens:
Sometime the page displays correctly, and sometimes nothing is displayed (blank
page and blank "view page source" page.

I own the server and doubled checked everything from config to logs. Nothing
there and other sites served by the same web server works flawlessly.
I checked with epiphany browser and was not able to reproduce the bug.
The page is valid HTML 4.01 strict:
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fpeprtree.com%2F
Problem was reproduced on a second computer (running another version of Firefox
3.5 on ubuntu 9.04)

Problem cannot be reproduced easily but pressing ctrl + F5 a few times
should trigger it.

I'm aware this might be an apache bug or misconfiguration on the server
side, but I can provide vhosts configuration to track down the problem
if required.

2009-10-13 Thread k3nt-1
For me, it also crashed a few seconds after pasting content from the web.
Some custom images where used in an unordered list in the pasted content. It
might be linked.
I don't have the same restricted modules or locale language as the original
reporter, but I doubt it's linked to this problem.

If you need more information, just let me know.

Re: [Bug 406399] Re: xfce4-volumed crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2009-08-03 Thread k3nt-1
Thanks for the information.
Isn't it a bit extreme to crash when no sound card is available ?
I guess that testing for the existence of a sound card and exiting (maybe
with an error message) would be more user friendly.
After all, xubuntu targets a market where PC with no sound card available
might still exist.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help.

KR.

[Bug 406399] Re: xfce4-volumed crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2009-08-03 Thread k3nt-1
Hello,

I'm using Sun Virtual Box 3.0.2 r49928 (Not the OSE). Sound is disabled for
this VM.
When I start the LiveCD and try to launch xfce4-mixer, there is an error
stating that Gstreamer is unable to find the sound device.

Also, when starting the terminal (xfce4-terminal), the sound manager
crashed. I dit not create a bug for this since it's probably related,
but I can do so if you think that this is important.

I stay available if you need other information.

[Bug 159937] time / size mapping is incorrect for Audio CD

2007-11-04 Thread k3nt-1
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

I created a compilation of mp3 files to be burned as an audio CD.
My blank audio CD is an 80min/700MB media
My compilation is made of songs for a total of about 1h15min24sec (75 minutes)
and Brasero refuses to burn, arguing that there is not enough space on the
inserted media and that it needs at least 759MB of free space !

I finally managed to burn a CD by removing songs until I reached
1h7min49sec

If you need debug files or log files or something else, just let me
know.
