[Bug 1262375] Re: abiword crashed with SIGABRT in FV_UnixSelectionHandles::FV_UnixSelectionHandles() saving as PDF file

2013-12-20 Thread Keith Burnett
Hello Christopher and all

http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13586

Abisource bugzilla bug number 13586

I'd like this bug sorted before 14.04 simply because Xubuntu is such a
nice small fast OS for older laptops, given the EOL of Windows XP. Users
from Windows will expect Save As PDF, and a sudden crash will damage
confidence.

I know that in the grand scheme of things there is an easy workround,
and perhaps this is not a show stopper.

[Bug 1262375] Re: abiword crashed with SIGABRT saving as PDF file

2013-12-19 Thread Keith Burnett
Work around: PDFs can be produced using the File | Print dialog and
selecting Print to File and ensuring that the PDF option is checked.

On my system, ODT export works fine without crashing. I shall test other
file formats as time allows.

2013-12-19 Thread Keith Burnett
Any file created in Abiword when Save As PDF is invoked causes Abiword
to crash, so I've attached the simplest one that I was using to test
Abiword when the crash report attached was produced.

5. Application does not start

On Precise 64 bit, updated today but on kernel 3.2.0-14-generic

I can see this bug when using a wifi dongle (Netgear WG111v3, default

3 wifi connections visible, after one hour, top shows nm-applet res use
increasing from 16Mb to 25Mb.

Rebooting and using just wired connection, res remains stable at 16Mb

[Bug 840715] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc()

2012-01-20 Thread keith burnett
Appaport popped up when Gnome Shell crashed on me just now in 12.04
testing, updated to today's date.

Steps to reproduce: Running fglrx driver installed by jockey on a quad
core xeon with VTX Radeon HD5450 graphics card. Load Firefox and scroll
pages vigourously.

What I see: Screen freezes, then, after some seconds, alert reports that
Gnome Shell crashed, top bar disappears and then reappears, appaport
loads with a dump.

[Bug 914255] [NEW] Unity2d in 12.04 application and incicator menus don't show full length but scroll. Unity 3d menus show full length

2012-01-10 Thread keith burnett
Public bug reported:

Description: In 12.04 Application menus in Unity 2d do not show the full
length, but are shorter than normal and show small 'triangles' top and
bottom. Tested on a large monitor (1920 by 1080). Clicking on these
triangles allows you to scroll down or up to see all the options
available in the menu. Unity shows the full menu length. In 11.10 full
length of pull down menus shown in both Unity and Unity 2d sessions.
Does not affect LibreOffice. First seen in and reported now from a 12.04
alpha1 install which had been updated. Confirmed by another user, and
reproduced in a live session from daily build cd.

Steps to reproduce (Jan 10th i386 daily build ISO): boot into live
session on PC with blacklisted graphics card, Unity2d session starts,
load Firefox, click on a menu. Scrollbars apparent. Boot from same iso
on a laptop with supported graphics card, Unity session starts, load
Firefox, click on menu, full length of menu apparent.

Discussion: and confirmation from another user:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1906887

Screenshot: see attachment

Lack of consistency between Unity and Unity 2d is bad, and I find the
scrolling menus harder to navigate, hence filing as a bug.

[Bug 759406] Re: seamonkey 2.0.13 does not start, missing libxpcom.so and libxpcom_core.so (Natty, x86_64)

2011-05-08 Thread keith burnett
Same problem in Xubuntu; have checked this morning after updates, and
Seamonkey still not launching windows when clicking on menu entry.

My workround is to use the 2.0.14 binary package from mozilla for now
with a manual .desktop file in ~/.local/share

[Bug 779438] [NEW] Xubuntu 11.04 multiple notifications when inserting a USB storage device with both a CD partition and a writable partition

2011-05-08 Thread keith burnett
Public bug reported:

I have a USB thumb drive that has a read only CD partition containing
some promotional material for a local company and a 1 Gb Fat32 partition
that is both read/write.

When inserting the drive into a computer running Xubuntu 11.04, both
partitions on the drive are recognised multiple times until the drive is
removed. Under default settings for Xubuntu 'Removable Devices and
Media', Thunar opens a pair of windows each second or so until the drive
is removed.

Optical CDs are notified once and opened once

Other USB storage drives without extra CD partitions are notified and
opened once

This drive produces the same behaviour on Xubuntu 11.04 on two different
computers, but this laptop when booted from a Live CD of Ubuntu 11.04
recognises both partitions on the drive correctly.

Using a Windows usb storage utility, the chipset and vendor/product IDs
are below...
