[Bug 1262925] Re: xournal crash in iofclose.c when loading background.
As Rainer pointed out, this could be the same as the bug I reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275130 (sorry for the duplication). I always get a segfault when trying to load a pdf as background. I fixed the bug in my recompiled xournal copy, as specified in that bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1262925 Title: xournal crash in iofclose.c when loading background. [Bug 1211333] [NEW] Windows disappear when moved between workspaces
Public bug reported: I just upgraded to 13.04 and enabled four workspaces. If I open a window in one workspace and use the pop-up menu to move it to another one it just disappears. This seems to happen for all applications. The process keeps on running, but the window disappears, as does the icon in the launcher. (I also note that the option to move to the workspace below has disappeared, but perhaps this is intentional.) [Bug 1102884] [NEW] windows move between workspaces switching dual display off
Public bug reported: I switch to/from dual display on a tablet pc a few times a day. I switch to dual display mode with a script doing xrandr --screen 0 --fb 1600x2100 xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1600x1200 --above LVDS1 and back to the single (laptop) screen with xrandr --output VGA1 --off xrandr --screen 0 --fb 1600x900 (I also set some wacom parameters back and forth to keep the tablet input calibrated on the laptop screen when in dual mode, but I don't think that's relevant.) The problem is that when I switch between the setups my application windows are moved between workspaces. It seems that the distinction between the physical screens and the workspaces is blurred, which may be intentional (I can drag windows between workspaces). But each time I switch display setup have to find all my application windows and move them to where I want them, which is a bit irritating as I have quite a few. I'm sorry if I've missed some option which will allow me to tie an application window to a specific workspace. I'm on Ubuntu 12.10 with unity version 6.12.0-0ubuntu0.2. I expected each application window to stay in the workspace I put it, but it usually doesn't. [Bug 924223] Re: Bluetooth sync stopped working in ubuntu 11.10
Thanks for the links! I had an N900 which I lost after about two years. First it worked with bluetooth, then it stopped working and I had to set up a syncML server. [Bug 531198] [NEW] Laptop hangs on suspend
Public bug reported: Sometimes suspend fails on my FS lifebook T5010 tablet laptop with internal modem for mobile broadband. I am not sure about which package is the cause. The screen goes blank and the disk access light goes out, but power is not turned down. (LEDs which normally start blinking stay steady). The system does not respond and has to be powered off completely. My impression is that the risk is higher when suspending after leaving the laptop alone for some time (cron?), and after using the internal GSM (UMTS) modem (sierra). (BTW, the broadband connection sometimes fails after successful suspend. In that case disabling network, turning the kill-switch off and on and re-enabling network helps.) My impression is also that the problem may sometimes be triggered by my turning the screen (physical screen only, not the display mode) to use tablet mode. This morning the last syslog message prior to the failing suspend was that the anacron main process had receive the KILL signal. I have had this problem for a long time (I believe also with 9.04), and recently it's been happening quite frequently. I haven't reported it before since it's rather vague where the problem is. It's quite annoying, however. [Bug 510036] [NEW] External screens not handled correctly
Public bug reported: Something has changed which makes it impossible to change correctly between different external screens. If I boot without any external screen and then connect one, it is recognised correctly. (In fact, it's switched on as soon as I select the screen setting dialogue, and the window for the setting appears in the new screen, which is not so good, in case there is something wrong with the screen itself.) If I switch off the external screen and re-enter the screen dialogue I only see the laptop screen, which is fine. However, if I then connect a different external screen it seems to be identified as the first screen I connected, and the available resolutions are not correct. xrandr gives the same result. I also see many errors in syslog saying unable to read EDID block and no EDID data. Switching from kernel 2.6.31-17 to 2-6-28-17 the touchpad does not work. However, I can log in and use the stylus for input (tablet pc). In this case, the external screens are identified correctly if I switch between them. So it seems my hardware works OK. (Perhaps I have some odd setting. I recently ran scratchbox and Xephyr for the first time, and I had to explicitly specify the DISPLAY to bluetooth-applet since no applet appeared on the screen. However, I didn't willingly change any settings for X and the desktop, and bluteooth-applet works fine now without any intervention.) I tried following the command specified just below this form to report this bug (which I noticed just as I was about to submit), i.e. ubuntu- bug -p xserver-xorg-core. However ubuntu-bug it tells me that the commands -p/-P are deprecated, so I'll just submit, hoping the automatically collected information will suffice. [Bug 474468] Re: xournal crashes on save as pdf if text input has been used when annotating a pdf
Compiling without optimisation was not the solution. It worked for annotating a test file, but the same error occured when saving an xournal file to pdf (without loading any pdf). Now gdb worked fine, and I found that len is declared wrongly. It should be a guint32, not a gsize. Changing this declaration seemed to fix the bug. -- xournal crashes on save as pdf if text input has been used when annotating a pdf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/474468 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 474468] Re: xournal crashes on save as pdf if text input has been used when annotating a pdf
The crash happens at line 872 in xo-print.c: g_string_append_len(pdfbuf, fontdata, len); Examining the value of len with gdb prior to this call shows 140733193391464. But it's difficult to trace why, since len is optimised away earlier in the code. If I compile with '-g' or with '-O0' it works. [Bug 374443] Re: Jaunty: UMTS via Sierra: pppd terminates immediately
I seem to be having the same problem with an internal sierra usb card. It used to work, but now it doesn't since a few days. Oddly, it *does* work with a sim card for another account with the same provider, but not for my account (even tried getting a new sim card for that account). My guess is that it is some sort of timeout because the response time on the provider side has become slower for my account for some reason (my account does work on windows with a huawei modem). I would like to try to make pppd or NetworkManager a bit more patient (whichever might help), but I can't find any settings to this effect anywhere. I did also modify my /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf as suggested about, but that did not help. I think that's a fix for the failure of dbus when there is a root window open. -- Jaunty: UMTS via Sierra: pppd terminates immediately https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374443 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 378938] [NEW] low laptop volume with 82801l / ALC269
Public bug reported: I have a Fujitsu-SIemens T5010 laptop with an Intel 82801I audio controller, and it seems to me that the range of the sound controls is too low somehow. I have tried tweaking them in alsamixer, from the volume applet, and from system-preferences-sound. If I put all the controls at maximum, or very near maximum I get a normal sound level, but I could never set it to what I would consider loud. PeIrhaps the speakers are inherently low-sound (it's a new laptop, and I've only run ubuntu 9.04 on it, so I have nothing to compare with), but I doubt that. Also, using the mic to record with audacity, I need to use the maximum setting for the mic. The front mic doesn't work, I need to use the internal mic. (Don't know what front mic is, there are two mics on the front of the screen, but perhaps front mic is what you'd connect to the jack on the side). I simply don't understand what all these different devices or controllers are. The volume control lets me choose between HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer), Realtek ALC269 (OSS Mixer), HDA Intel ALC269 Analog (PulseAudio Mixer), and the Sound setting menu also lets me choose just ALSA or OSS. I also have asoundconf-gtk installed, which gives me the choice between Intel and PulseAudio for the Default Sound Card. So perhaps I just haven't managed to set the right combination of things, but I've tried changing a lot, and my definite impression is that the scale is off, both for input and output. I ran the alsa check script, and my configuration is described at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=1b8bf5bf00145a4aa0602534d50dd993bd09a234 I'm running ubuntu 9.04. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- low laptop volume with 82801l / ALC269 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/378938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 343902] Re: tablet pc wacom input fails after turning screen
1. Please list the exact steps we need to take to reproduce this bahavior. It happens after a fresh boot, even if no desktop applications have been started. 2. How often does this behavior happen? Always, most of the time or occasionally? It seems to always happen after a few flips of the screen, but the number of flips needed varies. Also, it appears that there is sometimes a delay so that the pen stops working some time after the screen was flipped. I only observed this delayed behaviour when I flipped the screen without locking it down. I then could flip it many times, and concluded there was no problem, but after a little while the pen stopped working. So it seems a bit diffuse. -- tablet pc wacom input fails after turning screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343902 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 343902] [NEW] tablet pc wacom input fails after turning screen
Public bug reported: On my hp tc4400 tablet PC the pen stops working if I physically turn the screen by grabbing it with my hands. I do not change the display itself (it rotates with the screen since all pixels are unchanged). If I do this a few times the stylus input stops working. [Bug 314006] [NEW] wacom cursor position shifted from stylus after rotate suspend
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-wacom I have an hp tc4400 tablet pc. If I rotate the screen (to read/annotate some text) and then suspend and resume again, I get an offset if approximately 5cm between the position of the stylus and the point where the cursor appears. I would expect the two positions to match like they do before the suspend. It does not help to rotate back to the normal mode before suspending. To be able to use the stylus again I have to re- start X. My impression is that a similar problem has been around for some time, but that it used to be more erratic. It now seems consistent. To rotate the screen I use this script: #/bin/bash xrandr -o right xsetwacom set stylus rotate cw xsetwacom set cursor rotate cw xsetwacom set eraser rotate cw (to rotate back I replace right and cw by 0) I'd be grateful for any fix or workaround! So now I cannot reproduce the boot issue. My impression is that it was caused by the upgrade failing to modify my existing xorg.conf correctly (unfortunately, I have managed to delete the xorg.conf created with the upgrade). The remaining problems I have are minor (I suspect I'm not actually running with xinerama, all I know is I have a virtual desktop extending over two physical screeens). I've noticed that using the Screen Resolution dialogue correctly I can switch between two screens and one screen without loosing any windows, so I'm fairly happy (I don't like the fact that the Screen Resolution dialogue changes the relative position of my two screens when I switch the external one off, and I'd like to understand how to make the switch with a single command fro a terminal). It's neat that existing windows move to the external screen when I connect it. In case you are still interested, I append the output you mentioned, and a file called xorg.conf.dist-upgrade-200810302344, which seems to be the xorg.conf I had before upgrading. # lspci -vvnn 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub [8086:27a0] (rev 03) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:30b1] Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast TAbort- TAbort- MAbort+ SERR- PERR- INTx- Latency: 0 Capabilities: [e0] Vendor Specific Information ? Re: [Bug 291787] Re: intrepid: tablet pc screen stylus stopped working
Hallo Bryce, The basic problem seemed to be the same as for https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293064 which seems to me to be caused by some incorrect handling at upgrade of my (perhaps incorrect) xorg.conf which worked with hardy (I just sent you the lspci output and my old xorg.conf in response to your email about that). The only remaining issue here is that I needed to patch libgnomecanvas as I explained (Also, I would like to figure out how to avoid mapping the stylus input to the full virtual screen when I'm in double-screen mode. As it is, the cursor does not appear at the tip of the stylus, so I have to go into single-screen mode to use xournal.) But I'm basically quite happy now, and I do appreciate your getting back to me. Sorry to have submitted two bug reports instead of one. Thanks! So I cleared the Mirror Screens tick box in the Screen Resolution dialogue, and now dual head works (there was no 1600x1200 resolution available for the external screen, however, until I increased the size of the virtual screen in xorg.conf). But I don't see how to turn off xinerama mode, and get two independent screens. (With xinerama on, I get portions of the virtual screen which are not mapped onto any physical display, and when I disconnect from my office screen and work elsewhere I don't know how to stop various applications from opening windows or placing desktop items in the invisible parts of the virtual screen.) I guess I'll probably be able to figure that out. The following error was encountered: (EE) No devices detected I can then choose to run in low-graphics mode, which results in a resolution of 1024x768, which is the full resolution for the screen (but it takes a few extra clicks on startup). I noticed that this produces an xorg.conf.failsaife. Once the display is up most things work as usual, but I cannot use xrandr to rotate the screen. Also, the stylus does not work at all. I changed the name of xorg.conf.failsafe to xorg.conf and added device and and serverlayout sections similar to the ones I used before, but re- starting X does not change anything, the tablet features are still completely missing. I'm using kernel version 2.6.22-14, since with 2.5.24-17 (which installed with hardy) suspend does not not work. [Bug 226279] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-17 - broken resume from suspend to RAM
Just changed from Gutsy to Hardy and had this problem on an hp tc4400. Fan comes on, screen black, keyboard (including caps lock light) doesn't work. Have to power off. See no signs of any attempt to resume in the logs. I changed back from 2.6.24-17 to old kernel (2.6.22-14) and it works. -- Kernel 2.6.24-17 - broken resume from suspend to RAM https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226279 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 161085] Re: After upgrade to Gutsy, clock is one hour off (wrong timezone)
I was running Gutsy since summer, and had no trouble with the clock. It seemed to change from summer time correctly (CEST to CET), but at some point (last week?) it changed back one hour (saying 8:00 instead of 9:00 etc.). Correcting it using date command in terminal or menu from clock applet works, but only temporarily -- it changes back again. -- After upgrade to Gutsy, clock is one hour off (wrong timezone) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/161085 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 161085] Re: After upgrade to Gutsy, clock is one hour off (wrong timezone)
The reset (sometimes) happens when I suspend my laptop. I have also noticed that occasionally when I press the sleep button it refuses and a message pops up saying something similar to policy timeout is not valid, please try again in a little while. When this happens It is still possible to suspend from the logoff applet or by closing the lid. ** Also affects: acpi Importance: Undecided Status: New -- After upgrade to Gutsy, clock is one hour off (wrong timezone) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/161085 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 137944] Re: [gutsy] [regression] pdf rendering not working
I'm not so familiar with using debian packages, but here is the code in xournal-0.4/src/xo-file.c after my changes: ppm_name = g_strdup_printf(%s/p-%04d.ppm, bgpdf.tmpdir, req-pageno); // printf(Child %d finished, should look for %s... \n, pid, ppm_name); if (bgpdf.status == STATUS_ABORTED || bgpdf.status == STATUS_SHUTDOWN) pixbuf = NULL; else { pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file(ppm_name, NULL); if(pixbuf == NULL) { ppm_name = g_strdup_printf(%s/p-%03d.ppm, bgpdf.tmpdir, req-pageno); pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file(ppm_name, NULL); } if(pixbuf == NULL) { ppm_name = g_strdup_printf(%s/p-%02d.ppm, bgpdf.tmpdir, req-pageno); pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file(ppm_name, NULL); } if(pixbuf == NULL) { ppm_name = g_strdup_printf(%s/p-%01d.ppm, bgpdf.tmpdir, req-pageno); pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file(ppm_name, NULL); } } It's pretty clumsy, and assumes no more than pages. -- [gutsy] [regression] pdf rendering not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137944 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 137944] Re: [gutsy] [regression] pdf rendering not working
The cause of this problem is that xournal uses pdftoppm, to convert individual pages in the pdf file to bit maps. The old version of pdftoppm named the bit map files with six-digit page numbers irrespective of the number of pages in the pdf document. The new version uses the number of digits needed for the largest page number, e.g. three if the number of pages is in the range 100 to 999 inclusive. I replaced the lines ppm_name = g_strdup_printf(%s/p-%06d.ppm, bgpdf.tmpdir, req-pageno); ... pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file(ppm_name, NULL); in xo-file.c, with a bit of logic to try different number of digits (from 1 to 4) and look for a non-null pixbuf. It works. -- [gutsy] [regression] pdf rendering not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137944 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I see exactly the same behaviour. The stylus works for selecting windows etc, and the write cursor is at the tip of the stylus, but the line you draw appears further down, and the shift is larger the more pages you scroll down (it's OK on the first page). I dowloaded xournal 0.4 from sourceforge and compiled it (the Gutsy vsn is 0.3.3). With 0.4 it seems to work OK for the first few pages, but when I try to write something to a page after page 16 the page number at the bottom left changes to 16 (but the displayed page does not change) and the text I write is not visible. [Bug 134475] Re: xournal move looses insert point 7.10 gutsy
Xournal calls gdk_event_get_coords(event, x, y); to find the position in the file where you write. This function returns a y which rises linearly with the position within the first sixteen pages, but then stays almost constant over many pages. I added a file /usr/local/sbin/nap, containing #/bin/bash rmmod i8042 s2ram -f modprobe i8042 and modified /etc/acpi/lid.sh to contain only #!/bin/bash grep -q closed /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state if [ $? = 0 ] then /usr/local/sbin/nap fi This seems to work.
