[Bug 1847195] Re: web interface locks up in connecting state

2020-01-06 Thread Kit Randel
Hi Stefan, I've been unsuccessful replicating this on MAAS version:
2.6.2 (7841-ga10625be3-0ubuntu1~18.04.1) from the 2.6 ppa on 18.04
unfortunately. Are you able to update to 2.6.2 and see if the issue is
still present?

[Bug 1335478] Re: A new instance of IBM Domino 'bindsock' cannot bind to ports 1024 Kernel 3.13.0-29 and above

2015-01-06 Thread Kit Davis
Thanks for trying but I don't think anyone is too surprised. There was
a time when the pride in the getting Domino perfect would have
guaranteed a fix - now I'm afraid these resources are so limited at IBM
there is little appetite to do anything beyond what is absolutely
necessary.

2014-12-15 Thread Kit Davis
Andy - can you clarify (or predict) which kernels will see the fix?
From the above, it looks as if the fix will show up in 14.12 (vivid) but
there does not seem to be any status listed for 14.04. I know a lot of
clients want to stay with an LTS version.

[Bug 1335478] [NEW] A new instance of IBM Domino 'bindsock' cannot bind to ports 1024 Kernel 3.13.0-29 and above

2014-06-28 Thread Kit Davis
Public bug reported:

Starting with kernels 3.2.0-64 and 3.13.0-29 Something has changed to
once again that prevents IBM Domino's
/opt/ibm/domino/notes/latest/linux/bindsock binary that runs as root
(setuid) to get ports lower than 1024 for it's LDAP, SMTP, IMAP, POP3,
and HTTP processes.

The Domino server reports the following: :
Listener failure: 'bindsock' is missing, not executable, not owned by root,
not setuid root or user needs net_privaddr privilege.

This is the same behaviour that was reported and subsequently corrected
in Bug # 1269053

Public bug reported:

I bought a game very recently (within the last few days) and while it
said my card was denied or my street address information was wrong, it

[Bug 968913] [NEW] Installer crashes

2012-03-30 Thread Kit Goh
Public bug reported:

Was installing Pinguy OS 11.04, proceeded past Space allocation and left
computer to install. Came back to find an error, stating that the
installer had crashed and to report bug to
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug and then to
upload two files from /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman. It only
allowed me to closed that dialog and resumed to load the live DVD option
of the OS. Still waiting for the OS to load itself now.

[Bug 719388] Re: semop failed for cookie 0xd4d09ef: incorrect semaphore state during luksOpen

2012-03-27 Thread kit
Possibly related to https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=92762 ?
And from there, a link to https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/8/18/112
Apparently something might have been fixed in the kernel from v3.1 and I see
Precise is using v3.2 which could explain it.

[Bug 479592] Re: rsyslog doesn't work with property filter 'startswith'

2011-12-13 Thread kit
I tried isequal and that doesn't work either. I assume rsyslogd is
interpreting the timestamp, e.g. [ 8367.076851], as part of the message
it is applying the filter to. In my case rsyslogd 4.6.4 on 11.04 (natty)

[Bug 783725] [NEW] package evince-common 2.32.0-0ubuntu12 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: unable to stat `./etc/apparmor.d/abstractions' (which I was about to install): Input/output error

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I believe this is a bug in the evince-common and related files. I /O
errors were problems. I cannot even copy anything to the etc/apparmor.d/
directory even from a terminal. When I check the directory of
etc/apparmor.d/ , there is no abstractions folder in there.

[Bug 60764] Re: Large file transfer gives error: Corrupted MAC on input

2011-04-03 Thread Kit Scuzz
So I wrote up the following application to help me debug:
https://github.com/kitscuzz/n_stress (please note that the CRC32 doesn't
work quite how it's meant to, but it has caught corruption pretty
consistently)

I have now confirmed that it is not any of my networking equipment, or
specific to my machine (which I suppose should have been obvious from
the existence of this thread).

I have now seen this problem happen on two completely different machines
than the three used in the original test, and over a network connection
which was in a different part of the state, so that's not the issue.

The other machine which appears to have the issue is also using a
completely different ethernet controller (though also a gigabit), which
would seem to rule out a specific driver issue.

I still have not replaced the RAM, but it made it through 72 consecutive
passes in RAM test (almost three days) so I'm fairly certain that the
ram is good.

I think this is explicitly a receive error, as a web server machine
running Red Hat 4.1.2 (kernel version 1.6.18) can cause the error in the
affected machines, but not others. I have to confirm this by hooking
one of them up to a hub or switch which has a windows machine sniffing
to see if they both get the corruption.

I've attached the lspci -vvv output from all three machines involved.

Any help would be immensely appreciated, even if it was just ideas on
how to get through the ~6Gb packet dump in wireshark or tcpdump.

this problem

[Bug 60764] Re: Large file transfer gives error: Corrupted MAC on input

2011-02-12 Thread Kit Scuzz
Well I'm definitely willing to believe this is a hardware error but at
this point it is wholly bewildering to me. I'll have to try new sticks
of ram though I'm reluctant to believe that is the issue as the single
stick of 4gig ram which is in the machine has the correct voltages and
timings which it is rated for and it has made it through 16 consecutive
passes of Memtest86+ v4.20.

I decided to try and really track down this issue to no avail. I have
changed NICs twice now, I have removed my cheap NVIDIA video card (which
put me back on the ATI 4250 built onto the motherboard). I have also
disabled the use of the hidden cores on my AMD64 cpu. None of this
has changed the corruption I'm seeing, which is frequently 0xAA
sprinkled randomly throughout the packet. Once right at the beginning
0xAAxxAAxx where xx are random (normally either 0x55 or random) (this
is always the first part).

I think my next step here is going to have to be trying this in two different
scenarios:
1) I will be to take the server to a different house and see if I get the same
corruption problem (this would rule out my router/wiring as being the issue)
2) Actually get new RAM for the machine (though I'm currently too broke to
afford it, it will have to wait)

I guess I'm hoping that someone can provide a method of ruling out
software/kernel/driver issues. As it stands I'm trying more and more
elaborate hardware-based solutions but I haven't had any good method of
ruling out non-functioning software.

[Bug 60764] Re: Large file transfer gives error: Corrupted MAC on input

2011-02-02 Thread Kit Scuzz
I'm also suffering from this bug, and I'm willing to do as much as is humanly
possible to fix it in a reasonable time frame.
---
So first and foremost, I am suffering from this bug on two separate platforms:
I have an Ubuntu 10.04 laptop (32bit). Information relevant to the laptop:
kit@kacertop:~$ uname -a
Linux kacertop 2.6.32-28-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 10 21:21:01 UTC 2011
i686 GNU/Linux
kit@kacertop:~$ lspci | grep -i eth
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8071 PCI-E
Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 16)

And a file server running Debian squeeze (64bit). Information relevant to the
laptop:
kit@AlfredTCP:~$ uname -a
Linux AlfredTCP 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Wed Jan 12 03:40:32 UTC 2011 x86_64
GNU/Linux
kit@AlfredTCP:~$ lspci | grep -i eth
03:07.0 Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc DGE-530T Gigabit Ethernet
Adapter (rev 11) (rev 11)
---
As you can see, both of these NICs use Marvell chipsets, and both are gigabit.
I had the exact same issue with a Realtek gigabit chipset (who's model number I
have forgotten).

I've tested this under a number of conditions and like the others here
it seems to depend on network saturation (speeds 2Mbit). The period
between these failures is highly variable. And seem to be related more
to reception than to transmission. I've tried to proposed fix of
turning off TCP checksumming, which did not solve the issue.

I have replaced all of the components in the chain; the router,
switches, MoCA, cables, and ethernet card, and I still have the issue,
so if it is a hardware issue than it is with the wiring in my house, and
it's propagating through the MoCA.

So as I've been trying to understand the issue, I've whipped up a couple
tests. Netcat will transfer a whole file, but the file will regularly
contain corruption (and also different areas corrupted) when
transferring large volumes at high speeds. I checked using md5sums on
both ends of the transfer. Rsync and scp will fail with corrupted mac
on input or connection reset by peer depending on which end of the
transfer you're on (the computers I listed above always see the
corrupted mac on input). I ended up creating the following program to
try and hunt down the corruption. It causes both computers to transfer
blocks of data with a crc32 at the end of each packet. When the machine
detects a corrupt packet it prints the contents of the packet and dies.
Anyone interested in taking a look can download it here:
http://www.scuzzstuff.org/temp/check_network_interface.zip

Sloshing through a packet which should only contain either 0xDEADBEEF
0xABADBABE 0xCAFEF00D or 0xDEFEC8ED I received the following:
6d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d643573
6d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d643573
6d643573303030306d6435736d6435736d643573
6d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d6435736d643573
6d6435736d6435736d643573
I'm uncertain why I have 0x6d643573 but the corruption is obvious at the
0x

If there's anyone who can help me in trying to track this down more
quickly, completely, or intelligently I'm desperate for advice. I would
be willing to take my first foray into linux kernel programming to be
able to make use of my fileserver the way I want to.

Thanks.

Re: [Bug 348204] Re: [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently

2010-04-01 Thread kit
Seeing as people are chiming in with me-toos, I know I subscribed to
this bug after having a slightly different problem, but the iwl3945abg
in my Ubuntu laptop has been working fine for several months -
although I do keep it within the same room as the router. I'm on Lucid
now. Here's the driver and firmware information that is working for
me.

k...@lenovo:~$ dmesg | grep iwl
[ 18.034987] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network
Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.26ks
...
[ 27.206385] iwl3945 :04:00.0: firmware: requesting iwlwifi-3945-2.ucode
[ 27.543042] iwl3945 :04:00.0: loaded firmware version 15.32.2.9

Perhaps that combination would work for other people.

[Bug 537874] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup da87c78 during MI_WAIT_FOR_EVENT Display Pipe B Scan Line Window Wait Enable (0x01800020)

2010-03-20 Thread kit
If you want more detail, try reading the duplicates. I'm sure I
described what happened to me better than this person has. I mean,
judging from how this person described their problem I wouldn't have
thought it was the same bug, but someone else marked mine as a duplicate
of this, so... happy reading.

[Bug 524781] Re: lucid a2: crash some time between closing lid and opening lid on lenovo laptop

2010-03-05 Thread kit
I've upgraded using the PPA and the problem is still happening. I'm
going to submit it as a seperate bug so all the logs are attached then
mark it as a duplicate here. Will post again when I have the bug #.

[Bug 30734] Re: colorgcc should replace default gcc

2010-02-28 Thread kit
I find the instructions at http://blog.emptycrate.com/node/429 work
fine. Specifically issuing the following commands manually once after
installation. The fact these sym-links aren't automatically created
during installation seems, to me, a defect in the installation package
which could easily be fixed.

sudo ln -s /usr/bin/colorgcc /usr/local/bin/gcc
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/colorgcc /usr/local/bin/g++
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/colorgcc /usr/local/bin/cc
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/colorgcc /usr/local/bin/c++

or when run with root privileges during installation, the following
single line would accomplish the same thing.

ln -s /usr/bin/colorgcc /usr/local/bin/gcc; ln -s /usr/bin/colorgcc
/usr/local/bin/g++; ln -s /usr/bin/colorgcc /usr/local/bin/cc; ln -s
/usr/bin/colorgcc /usr/local/bin/c++

[Bug 30734] Re: colorgcc should replace default gcc

2010-02-28 Thread kit
To clarify, colorgcc is just a wrapper for the real gcc, etc. The above
symlinks in /usr/local/bin/* are found before the real gcc, etc. in
/usr/bin/* (owing to the default path variable -
PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games).
The title and description of this bug should be ammended.

If my previous suggestion can be integrated in to the repository
package, the sym-links should automatically get removed during
uninstallation so that when the path is traversed to execute gcc, etc.
the original ones are then found.

2010-02-28 Thread kit
Ah ok, sorry. I didn't refresh the page before my last message and
missed what you said about the debian/ubuntu alternatives system. It
would be nice if the gcc system implemented colors and I don't know much
about the alternatives system. I'll read about the alternatives system
and see if the colour functionality can just be patched directly in to
gcc. Thanks for your quick reply.

Re: [Bug 348204] Re: [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently

2010-02-25 Thread kit
If you've just recently upgraded, I'd assume your previous kernel (the
one that worked) is still on your computer. Can you boot the computer
with that kernel and confirm you don't have a problem? And if that's
the case can you post back what kernel version that was. Thanks.

On 25 February 2010 08:37, Daniele daniele.levor...@inwind.it wrote:
I'm having the same problem too with Karmic. Tryed even to backport some
 packages like stated here:

Nothing to do! The wireless goes down!!! On my laptop it goes up again
automatically, but on my server (another pc) using a wifi-usb-dongle, it
doesn't... even if I restart network, the device doesn't work anymore... I
have to unplug it and plug again and then it reconnects.
This BUG is very critical because I MUST use wireless... and so I can't use
Ubuntu anymore!!! After so many year.. it's a pitty!!!

 Bug description:
I use Jaunty alpha 6 with kernel 2.6.28-11

The wireless connection is realy unstable with intel 3945ABG. I frequently
lost the connection and i have to restart NetworkManager (sudo
 /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart) to connect again.

It seems going worst and worst since the fifth alpha.

[Bug 524781] Re: lucid a2: crash some time between closing lid and opening lid on lenovo laptop

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After opening the laptop the screen didn't light up. I tried pressing
keys and trying to move the cursor but I had to switch to a terminal
with [ctrl][alt][f1] and then back to X with [alt][f7] to get it working
again. at which point it prompted for my password to unlock. saw a crash
report about intel gpu which should be what this bug report contains.

Update: Alternatively I could just leave the computer for a while after
reopening the lid, after 30-90seconds of a completely black screen X
restarts. It might have done this when I tried switching with
[alt][f1]etc and didn't notice and just assumed it had logged me out. It
was as if the computer had gone in to hibernation or suspend at some
point between closing the lid and opening the lid even though I've set
Ubuntu to only blank the screen when the lid is closed on AC power.

Update: Seems to be working OK now. Possibly due to a recent package
upgrade, will update if it happens again.

[Bug 525373] [NEW] Google search default replaced with Yahoo

2010-02-21 Thread kit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Mozilla has a contract with Google for the default search in Firefox.
Doesn't switching the default search for new installs and upgrades in
Ubuntu equate to forking the Firefox code where the new package can't be
redistributed under the name Firefox? It's great Canonical have found a
way to subsidise Ubuntu with this Yahoo Search/Microsoft contract but as
one of the many people annoyed my default search engine has been
replaced with a honk of rubbish it would have been nice if I didn't have
to change my default search engine every time I use or create a
different browser profile.

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 524781] Re: lucid a2: crash some time between closing lid and opening lid on lenovo laptop

2010-02-21 Thread kit
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After opening the laptop the screen didn't light up. I tried pressing
keys and trying to move the cursor but I had to switch to a terminal
with [ctrl][alt][f1] and then back to X with [alt][f7] to get it working
again. at which point it prompted for my password to unlock. saw a crash
report about intel gpu which should be what this bug report contains.
+ Alternatively I could just leave the computer for a while after
+ reopening the lid, after 30-90seconds of a completely black screen X
+ restarts. It might have done this when I tried switching with
+ [alt][f1]etc and didn't notice and just assumed it had logged me out. It
+ was as if the computer had gone in to hibernation or suspend at some
+ point between closing the lid and opening the lid even though I've set
+ Ubuntu to only blank the screen when the lid is closed on AC power.

What does that mean for Karmic? Karmic is no longer supported even
though Lucid hasn't been released yet?

 Bug description:

Clicking Save To X Configuration File causes immediate crash of

Not sure if this is due to permissions related to the new X config scheme
(i.e. no longer using xorg.conf for display config)? I am also confused as
to why the repo driver is 177.80, but the repo nvidia-settings is 177.78?

[Bug 367136] Re: xset -r causes loss of control of keyboard

2009-10-18 Thread kit
I couldn't run gconf-editor (gconf-gnome) on the host whilst this bug
was occuring, so i used the following commands via a ssh:

gconftool -t bool -s /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/a11y-keyboard/active
false
sudo gconftool -t bool -s
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/a11y-keyboard/active false
sudo restart gdm

^using karmic. try sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart in place of the last line if
it doesn't work on jaunty.
(subscribing to this bug so i remember to change back if/when it's fixed.
thanks)

[Bug 397806] Re: [Karmic]cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!

2009-07-26 Thread kit
Is the real problem here that you're unable to use the usual methods to burn a
disk ?
brasero informs me it doesn't see any disks it can write to but i just ran
cdrecord /home/kit/Desktop/karmic-desktop-amd64.iso /dev/sr0 from a console
which appears to have succeeded.

if this is what the op experienced please add this bug to brasero. if
not, ignore this comment.

because an empty cd wouldn't have any filesystem to mount in the first
place. not really a bug tho.

[Bug 398331] [NEW] bfilter doesn't start at boot

2009-07-11 Thread kit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bfilter

I have bfilter 1.1.4 installed on Ubuntu Jaunty.

It works when invoked with sudo /etc/init.d/bfilter start, but it
doesn't start automatically with other service daemons during boot.

I think I've got the right symlinks in /etc/rcX.d/ :-

/etc/rc0.d/K20bfilter - ../init.d/bfilter
/etc/rc1.d/K20bfilter - ../init.d/bfilter
/etc/rc2.d/S20bfilter - ../init.d/bfilter
/etc/rc3.d/S20bfilter - ../init.d/bfilter
/etc/rc4.d/S20bfilter - ../init.d/bfilter
/etc/rc5.d/S20bfilter - ../init.d/bfilter
/etc/rc6.d/K20bfilter - ../init.d/bfilter

Is it supposed to start at boot? Can anyone help me get it so that it
does?

[Bug 348204] Re: [Jaunty] Intel wireless 3945ABG is unstable and disconnects frequently

2009-06-12 Thread kit
I built 2.6.30 r8 from source and it didn't help at all. Although, my problem
with the Intel 3945 on Jaunty is that it never even connected to the WPA2
secured hidden wireless network in the first place... Windows 7 (build 7100)
can connect fine, as could Hardy, can't remember whether Ibex/Intrepid could
but I guess not judging from how I've left Windows running solely on the laptop
for the last 6 months.

Pierpaolo: did you use the standard jaunty kernel with oldconfig? that's
what I did.

This is the list of things I've tried so far in the order I tried them:
Backported modules=fail
Latest iwl3945 microcodes=fail
Wicd=fail
Ubuntu proposed kernel 2.6.28-13=failed beause not all packages were in the
repos
kernel.org 2.6.30 r8 with oldconfig from standard jaunty 2.6.28-11 kernel=fail
Ubuntu proposed kernel 2.6.28-13=fail

Going to reinstall Jaunty again and try updating again. Won't bother
compiling the 2.6.30 kernel again unless i see a fix somewhere in the
changelog tho.

[Bug 374934] [NEW] Connection Failed! in Ubuntu Karmic

2009-05-11 Thread kit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtwitter

From the comments on
http://code.google.com/p/gtwitter/issues/detail?id=45 it appears the
latest Karmic build fixes this issue. I couldn't install the Karmic
package on Jaunty because dependency packages have been renames...

Dependency is not satisfiable: libgconf2.0-cil (= 2.24.0)
Attempting to install libgconf2.0-cil - Error: Breaks exisiting package
'libgconf2.24-cil' conflict: libgconf2.0-cil ( )

Dependency is not satisfiable: libgnome-vfs2.0-cil (= 2.24.0)
Installed: libgnome-vfs2.24-cil

bUpdate:/b I dismantled the Karmic package from
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/all/gtwitter/download

Altered the dependency list, repackaged with:
dpkg -b ~/gtwitter_1.0~beta-9_all gtwitter_1.0~beta-9_all.deb

All now works well. I didn't alter the maintainer details in the control
file and haven't uploaded .debs anywhere before. So I'm hoping a
maintainer can do this because the current version in Ubuntu releases
Karmic is broken and unable to connect to servers

Relevant fix in beta-9:
[ Mirco Bauer ]
  * debian/patches/send_fetch_requests_as_get.patch:
+ Twitter doesn't allow POST requests for fetch operation anymore.
This made the package unusable and thus urgency set to medium.
  (Closes: #524489)
