[Bug 921397] Re: Speaker audio channel goes mute after plugging in the headphone

2012-03-29 Thread kvdveer
I, too am affected by this issue, or at least an issue which quacks like
this one.

I am using a samsung 7 series (700Z5A-S01), with a 3.2 kernel. For me,
slightly different alsamixer values are reported (see attached file).
Most notably, it reports my headphone as a sliderless control. For me
too, headphone volume is controlled with the 'speaker' slider.

My workaround required a little bit more magic:

in analog-output-headphones
[Element Speaker]
; link to muting
switch = mute
; set volume to zero, so only the master slider controls playback volume. This
gives better linearity.
volume = zero

[Bug 937522] [NEW] rdp clipboard sync doesn't work anymore.

2012-02-20 Thread kvdveer
Public bug reported:

I'm connecting to several Win2k8R2 servers (direct connection), but
since 1.0 clipboard sync seems to have stopped working.

Steps to reproduce:
Connect to win2kr8 server
open notepad, type some test, and copy it
Paste text back in notepad (just to be sure you actually copied it)
Paste text in gedit.

Actual result:
gedit contains the contents of the most recent pastebuffer.

Expected result:
gedit contains the text copied from notepad.

Summary of the above:
This is the latest ubuntu with the latest gnome-shell, on x86. Gnome shell is
displayed usig 1gb of memory use after two and a half days (mostly idle). This
was an unusually good run: usually it reaches this level after only one day.

I have a very similar setup elsewhere, which doesn't have the problem. I
suspect the problem to be in user configuration; apart from my home dir,
this was a clean install of last november. My home dir is much older; it
stems from april last year. (lucid)

2011-03-28 Thread kvdveer
I was just hit by this one as well.
For me, this was triggered by watching the Dr. WHO preview on this page, and
clicking the fullscreen option.
http://weblog.fok.nl/viewSingleItem/35203/Doctor-Who%3A-een-voorproefje.htm

The screen froze, but the system kept operating as usual. I used
ctrl+alt+f1 to open a terminal to investigate the problem and trigger a
reboot. I was also able to switch back and forth to the (still frozen) x
session.

[Bug 735656] Re: Users on highlight ignore are completely ignored

2011-03-24 Thread kvdveer
I think this is caused by 71_fix_nick_not_to_highlight.patch

On line 442, inbound_chanmsg:
if (alert_match_word (from, prefs.irc_no_hilight))
return; // --- returning, without delivering the message

if (is_hilight (from, text, sess, serv))
hilight = TRUE;

I think this should be:
if (!alert_match_word (from, prefs.irc_no_hilight)  is_hilight (from,
text, sess, serv))
hilight = TRUE;

Same is true for in inbound_privmsg

[Bug 735656] Re: Users on highlight ignore are completely ignored

2011-03-24 Thread kvdveer
My proposed change above is wrong.
Line 442-443 are entirely unneeded. Checking whether we should highlight for
from nick is already performed in is_hilight, there is no need to do that in
inbound_chanmsg. The same is true for the tail of inbound_privmsg.

I'll fix it, test it, and submit a substitution for patch 71.

Simply undoing patch 71 fixes the bug; it does more harm than good. It
doesn't do any good anyway.

Properly reimplementing patch 71 is not a triviality; it would require
new text events, and the infrastructure to propagate those.

[Bug 671541] [NEW] postinst installs script with incorrect LSB stop values

2010-11-05 Thread kvdveer

[Bug 671541] Re: postinst installs script with incorrect LSB stop values

2010-11-05 Thread kvdveer
As promised, a patch. I think it is reasonable to assume that speech-
dispatcher doesn't need to run during initial boot and after shutdown,
so 0 1 6 is a reasonable value for LSB stop.

[Bug 669792] [NEW] Current version is not compatible with sync servers

2010-11-02 Thread kvdveer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xul-ext-sync

The official Firefox Sync package is at 1.5.
I get an error while syncing in Firefox when I use 1.4.3, with the message
You need to update Firefox Sync to continue syncing your data.
Oddly, setting up sync works just fine.

Repackaging would probably solve the issue.

[Bug 640766] [NEW] Graphic corruption when selecting packets

2010-09-16 Thread kvdveer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wireshark

When I select a packet in wireshark's main screen, the screen is
rerendered incorrectly. It seems asif the redraw code tries to clear the
background of the text with some nonsense. Sometimes it is noise,
sometimes it is text, sometimes (as in the attached screenshot). When I
force a full redraw (for example by resizing) the corruption is gone.

I'm pretty confident this is not a bug in wireshark itself, but in some
dependent library; I recall seeing the same corruption in other
applications, but not to the extent I've seen it with Wireshark.

I'm running the NVIDIA proprietary drivers, version 256.53

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 59559] USB dies on recent kernel (nvidia-hardware)

2006-09-08 Thread kvdveer
Public bug reported:

Recently I did an upgrade (at most a week ago, i don't remember, sorry),
and postponed the reboot until yesterday. After that I have problems
with my mouse. After login to ubuntu it is working fine, but after some
time mouse dies. After unplugging my mouse and replugging it, the laser
doesn't even shine. It looks like my entire usb subsystem is
dysfunctional. Also I can't switch between terminals by pressing
[alt]+[ctrl]+[Fx].

It looks like I'm having the same symptoms as described with the following bug:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15/+bug/41272

Except: I don't have any of the hardware mentioned in that bug. My setup is:
Amd-k8
NVidia 6150 chipset. (onboard ethernet disabled in bios)
Ubuntu-edgy x86
NVidia restricted drivers

The problem goes away when I downgrade to Linux ubuntu 2.6.15-26-k7, for
which I also needed to change to the open-source nvidia driver (nv).
I'll check later today if the latest kernel works with this driver, as
the mentioned bug seems to be related to graphics hardware and closed-
source drivers...

[Bug 58624] Re: Amarok doesn't play mp3 with correct packages installed

2006-09-03 Thread kvdveer
Nope, it doesn't solve the problem. I haven't tried a full reboot
though. My wife is currently working on some files through an smb share,
so rebooting would be rude... ;-)

Also, i had a working config before I upgraded to edgy, libxine-
extracodex has been on my system since the first install (dapper, one
month ago). This suggests this bug is specific for edgy.

I've also nuked amarok's user config (~/.kde/share/apps/amarok and
~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc), to no avail. The introductional ogg
provided with the package works fine.

[Bug 58624] Amarok doesn't play mp3 with correct packages installed

2006-09-02 Thread kvdveer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

When i try to play an MP3 with Amarok, it refuses to play it, and offers
me to install mp3-support, eventhough i have mp3-support installed
already. No matter what i click, install-mp3 is started. install-mp3
correctly detects I have the required packages installed, and does
nothing.

Amarok correctly reads the id3-tags (both v1 and v2) on my collection.
It correctly displays the duration of my files. On the default streams,
it doesn't complain about the mp3-format, but it doesn't produce audio-
output either.

System information:
I'm running Ubuntu egdy x86 on an amd x64, updated 5 minutes ago. Apart from
the dependencies for kate and amarok, I have no KDE packages installed. My
package-versions are:
