[Bug 792787] Re: i lock screen comeback later I don't get a login prompt, I can ctl-alt f6 and login so the system is still working I just can not get back in graphicly without a reboot

2011-07-27 Thread ligaard
We are a few people here at the office that have the exact same problem:
Sometimes the login prompt just doesn't show when the screensaver
running. We all have Ubuntu 11.04, but only those of us using Unity or
Gnome Classic have seen the problem. The guy running KDE have not seen
the problem. We have all upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10.

When it happens, we can go to the console, e.g. Ctrl-Alt-F1, and kill
gdm-session-worker. Then login in again (but we will start with a blank
desktop, must restart our programs etc.).

I am using the 'GL Slideshow' screen saver.

Let me know if there is further information I can provide to help
debugging.

[Bug 777765] Re: HP Color-Laserjet 3550 does not print colors correctly in Natty

2011-05-24 Thread ligaard
It does not work for me, since the 3600 I am using is a network printer.
Apparently the Foomatic/pxljr driver does not support network
printing.

Has anybody found a workaround? Is it possible to choose some other
printer driver and still be able to print in colors?

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image as background-repeat

2008-06-03 Thread ligaard
No improvements in 3.0 RC1 from hardy-proposed, sorry.

I tried the two urls below, which both gives 15-20 fps in Opera, but
only ½-1 fps in Firefox 3 RC1.

Note that the slashdot url is interesting: It scrolls equally well in
Opera and Firefox until the 'Comments' box (on the left) starts to
'hover/float' with the scrolling page.

At Lulu58e2:

Did you try out these to links:
- http://simile.mit.edu/timeline/examples/dinosaurs/dinosaurs2.html

The timeline-widgets scroll smoothly in Opera (any platform) and
Firefox on Windows. Do they scroll smoothly for you?

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image as background-repeat

2008-05-09 Thread ligaard
The demos here: http://ejohn.org/blog/processingjs/ work smoothly on
Firefox in Windows (run on a Windows XP inside a VMWare on top of Ubuntu
8.04).

In Ubuntu 8.04, Firefox 3 spikes to processor to almost 100% and the
movement it jerky.

Furthermore, when running in Firefox in a virtualized Windows on top of
Ubuntu, it uses half the CPU resources compared to Firefox running
directly in Ubuntu..!

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image as background-repeat

2008-05-09 Thread ligaard
It is a Firefox issue on Linux (Ubuntu) only. Graphics handling on my
Ubuntu 8.04 machine works great, a few examples:

1) Google Earth 4.2 render smoothly - even with sunsets over 3D-textured houses
in Munich (Germany).
2) Opera renders the examples given above fluently.
3) Firefox running virtualized in Windows on VMWare on Ubuntu renders the
demo-pages fluently.
4) Compiz effects - full bells'n'whistles - renders fluently.

To conclude: This issue can not be solved by adding a module section to
xorg.conf. The culprit is Firefox on Linux (maybe just Ubuntu, cf. 1st
comment in this issue).

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image in the background

2008-05-08 Thread ligaard
It seems that Firefox for Linux just has a bad implementation, but that GDK
provides the needed primitives to fix the problem. See:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382392#c34 and it's follow-up
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427431.

As a work-around you can run Firefox in Windows XP on vmware on Ubuntu
8.04 and it will be WAY FASTER than using it directly in Ubuntu! :-p

[Bug 187383] Re: System monitor causes Xorg to consume 100% CPU

2008-03-23 Thread ligaard
I see this problem too. Not 100% load, but 70-80%.

System data:
- OS: Hardy Heron beta 1.
- Machine: Lenovo T61p, 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia 570M (using restricted drivers / Compiz).

A bug that might be related could be 125970,

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image in the background

2008-03-23 Thread ligaard
In this Mozilla developers blog[1], he talk about pixman library being
slow and being optimized at the moment. He says Linux will have to wait
for the speed improvements until the X server is upgraded.

I am guessing here, but at least it could explain why Firefox is fast in
Windows and not in Ubuntu, and also why Opera is fast on Linux as they
use their own pixel manipulation code.

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image in the background

2008-03-21 Thread ligaard
I just installed Opera in Hardy Heron. It works perfectly with the
'presidents' and 'dinosaurs2' examples given above. Firefox 3 is still
slow and jerky. So it seems to be an issue isolated in Firefox, not a OS
platform issue.

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image in the background

2008-03-21 Thread ligaard
Could this be a GTK issue? I just observed that opening 'Gnome System
Monitor', then chosing it's 'Resources' tab (the one showing graphs of
load and memory usage) shoots X load to 50% (from 5-10%). At the same
time Firefox becomes very jerky, e.g. scrolling is jerky, typing in
textareas is jerky etc. Switching away from the 'Resources' tab in
'System Monitor' makes everything nice again.

I have a theory, that this could be a Cairo issue: Since the graphs in
the new 'System Monitor' uses Cairo. Opera does not use Cairo and it
works perfectly. It might be a driver/Cairo combination issue. I use the
Nvidia 'restricted' drivers.

[Bug 125970] Re: slow scroll with image in the background

2008-03-17 Thread ligaard
I have the same problem. As a few extra examples where it is really bad
for me, try the following urls (which are smooth in Firefox on Windows
and Mac, but slow in Ubuntu):

- http://simile.mit.edu/timeline/examples/dinosaurs/dinosaurs2.html

But just scrolling a webpage using the arrow up/down keys is quite a
jerky experience.
