[Bug 1974461] [NEW] ask-for-password does not allow to toggle num-lock state

2022-05-20 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

(low prio inconvenience)

The pinentry field for my cryptsetup luks encrypted disk won't allow to toggle
the num lock state during boot.
When pressing the num-lock key on my usb keyboard, the according LED won't
light up during entering my cryptsetup password.
plymouthd seems to capture all key presses of my keyboard instead of
registering for input events.

the following line seems to tell plymouthd to ask for the password during boot:
/lib/cryptsetup/scripts/decrypt_opensc:41: --pin "$(plymouth
ask-for-password --prompt "Enter pin for $CRYPTTAB_NAME: ")"

It would be better for the pinentry to behave more like a normal "read"
command but without compromising security.

I am using cryptsetup 2.4.3 fwiw.

[Bug 1970588] [NEW] screen-shot-record.html doesn't reflect surprisingly swapped print screen key behaviour

2022-04-27 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/screen-shot-record.html.en#keyboard-shortcuts
doesn't reflect recent changes in ubuntu 22.04 where the behaviour of "print
screen" key functionality got swapped:

Print Screen to take a screenshot of the desktop.
Alt+Print Screen to take a screenshot of a window.
Shift+Print Screen to take a screenshot of an area you select.

should change to:

Print to open an HUD with an area selector. Then click in the small white
cicle to fullfill the screenshot.
Alt+Print Screen to take a screenshot of a window.
Shift+Print Screen Screen to take a screenshot of the desktop.

[Bug 1851573] Re: configuration file //.config/debconf-kde-helperrc not writable

2021-05-14 Thread lirel
The error message clearly states, that kde tries to write to a file in
the root directory of the system and not in any home directories.

Let's track down where the $HOME variable substitution gets lost in between.
Attached we see an other flavor of this message with only one slash where a
tilde or path to the home directory should be visible:

this but should be marked as won't fix, because it is a bug though, but users

[Bug 945470] [NEW] Lenovo Think Pad Edge 525 fails to restore display backlight after closing lid

2012-03-03 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

While Ubuntu(precise beta) ist currently the only linux distribution
that manages to use grapics more then VESA fallback on this system there
is a problem regarding closing the lid.

On a Lenovo Think Pad Edge 525 with AMD sumo_mobile graphic included in the CPU
there is a prblem when closing the Laptop LID.
When closing the LID, display goes dark and ubuntu enters suspend to ram.
After opening the lid again, nothing happens.
After pushing the power button the system resumes from Suspend state and gets
responsive via SSH, Numlock, CD-ROM opening aso. but the display stays dark.

using ssh after resuming shows this in dmesg:
[ 146.937844] video LNXVIDEO:02: Restoring backlight state
[ 146.953185] [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -35!

also using vbetool dpms on wouldn't help here

Suspending the System via Menu makes the system waking up normally and even
switching on the display.
Switching off the mechanism to automaticially suspend the system on closing the
LID works as expected(display off on lid close and proper resuming display
state after opening)

[Bug 901264] Re: html5 audio tag alternate content not shown with mp3

2011-12-07 Thread lirel
** Description changed:

When browsing a site which is using the html5 audio-tag that only has
mp3-files as source, firefox 8 shows that loading of the file is broken.
  However https://developer.mozilla.org/en/HTML/Element/audio#Compatibility
states that ff doesn't support mp3 files.
Also the alternate content that should be shown in this case is missing in

2011-10-06 Thread lirel
On my System it's just called: "Tastatur" but Barrierefreih... is cut in the
middle too.
So it is not related to an Umlaut but just cropped because of space left.

VGA-0 is detected as connected and so makes X11 mirror "both" outputs

[Bug 868611] [NEW] [radeon] xrandr spuriously reports VGA-0 being connected to a display

2011-10-05 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

When booting up, LightDM has a very low display resolution.
Further investigation shows, that X is mirroring VGA-0 output to the
DVI(reported as HDMI-0 by xrandr) connector.
So DVI ends up having the wrong display resolution, because X believes VGA-0
has a display being connected to it supporting 1024x768/800x600 only, which is
wrong.

See attachment "xrandr_after_login.txt" for Output of xrandr after
logging in and gnome/unity applying correct resolution and manually
switching of VGA-0.

I am running Ubuntu 11.10 beta2 x86_64 with an "AMD A6-3500 APU with
Radeon(tm) HD Graphics" on a MSI A75MA-G55 board.

This still happens but it seems to have happened while switching from lightdm
to gnome-session.
Here it changes the display resolution and shows the background of lightdm
several times as mosaik across the screen.

[Bug 634079] [NEW] Jacksense for mic and headphone fails to work sometimes on HP compaq nx6325 with snd-hda-intel module

2010-09-09 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

Once in a while jacksense of my soundcard doesn't work anymore with differing
results:
sometimes sound comes out of both, speakers and headphones
sometimes it just stays as it was before failing: either headphone only or
speaker only.

this also seems to match for mic, because the internal mic still works
while an externel doesn't.

the kernel uses the snd-hda-intel module for sound.

here is some content from dmesg:
$ dmesg | grep -i hda

- When creating new or adding existing jabber accounts the the credentials will

+ When creating new or adding existing jabber accounts the credentials will be
sent unencrypted.
  enabling encryption later works.

empathy should ask the user what to do or should enable tls/ssl
  connections by default.

a workaround to prevent the credentials for existing accounts from being
blown out unencrypted is to disable networking while passing the wizard and
enabling ssl/tls before reconnecting.
new accounts could change the password after enabling ssl.

[Bug 600449] [NEW] New and added Jabber accounts are insecure by default

2010-06-30 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When creating new or adding existing jabber accounts the credentials will be
sent unencrypted.
enabling encryption later works.

empathy should ask the user what to do or should enable tls/ssl
connections by default.

a workaround to prevent the credentials for existing accounts from being blown
out unencrypted is to disable networking while passing the wizard and enabling
ssl/tls before reconnecting.
new accounts could change the password after enabling ssl.

[Bug 575092] Re: [Geforce4 MX440 / nForce2 / NV18] Screen flickering during start-up and while logged in

2010-05-05 Thread lirel
marked 575227 as duplicate.
here is the other description:
with a clean installed lucid on a hp dx 6050 desktop computer i get a somehow
shifted screen:
with a resolution of 1024x768 the left part of the display area is missing and
gets displayed at the right corner.
also the bottom parts is missing, but this doesn't get displayed at the top.
instead the first pixel from the top seem to be repeated ~30times. (see photo).

making screenshots doesn't show this behaviour.
anyway this doesn't seem to be related to a misconfigured monitor because the
mouse has it's "active" point in the vertical middle and horizontal left of the
mouse-icon.

when running xrandx the screen gets blanked for a short time.

xgnokii should at least give a graphical feedback that something is wrong. even
if no phone is found.
for me it quits quietly when started from menu.

[Bug 550470] [NEW] setup for installShield dependent app aborts with err:ole:TLB_ReadTypeLib Loading of typelib IsProBE.tlb failed with error 2

2010-03-28 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine1.2

When running setup.exe from the german install DVD of "Command & Conquer Die
ersten 10 Jahre" (CnC first decade) the installer runs through the first window
and aborts with "Die aktuelle Version der Anwendung wurde nicht erkannt. Das
Setup wird nun beendet." which translates to "The current version of the
application could not be determined. The Setup ends now.".

the first error is:
err:ole:TLB_ReadTypeLib Loading of typelib L"C:\\Programme\\Gemeinsame
Dateien\\InstallShield\\Professional\\RunTime\\IsProBE.tlb" failed with error 2

this used to work at least with Ubuntu 9.04[x86] (wine 1.0.1)
it also works with windows XP sp3 german.
it also worked with the wine version released with lucid[amd64] alpha 3.

according to the upstream bugzilla this bug
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22159 is a duplicate of the wine bugs:
22081 and 22066.
the last one is reported to be fixed upstream but not included in wine 1.1.41

which is similar to 197070 and 339107.
the difference is, that everything works normal except, that i can't set no
more bookmarks.
nither with the star in the location bar nor from the library.
currently there are ~2000 bookmarks set.

i also tried this in safe-mode but with a fresh profile this can not be
reproduced.
Editing and deleting bookmarks works well.

[Bug 413345] Re: incorrectly assumes /dev/mapper/ -> LVM

2010-03-17 Thread lirel
The same happens if the former jackalope-install used sda1 for grub and kernels
and lvm /dev/mapper/ubuntu-jackalope for root.
it just assumes that all old systems boot from the new /dev/mapper/ubuntu-lucid
even if it corrctly guesses the labels.

here are some lines from grub.cfg:
...
### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ###

splash
initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-16-generic

...
