[Bug 1618803] Re: tcsh crashed with SIGSEGV in __GI___rewinddir()

2016-10-20 Thread luc...@math.purdue.edu
Thank you, your instructions worked for me.

But good grief, shipping a shell that crashes when using for
argument completion ... I guess, because I use tcsh (obviously), I'd
say the importance is high!

Ah, I just read the rest of the comment.

I guess I didn't manage to download the patches while I thought I was
following your instructions, sorry.

[Bug 1398229] Re: ps2pdf does not creat proper hyperlinks

Interestingly enough, this is the same two-page test file as the one in

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/583990

four years ago. I don't know whether the ghostscript team could add
this to their testing regime.

[Bug 1398229] [NEW] ps2pdf does not creat proper hyperlinks

2014-12-01 Thread luc...@math.purdue.edu
Public bug reported:

firefly:~ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10
firefly:~ apt-cache policy ghostscript
ghostscript:
  Installed: 9.14~dfsg-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 9.14~dfsg-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 9.14~dfsg-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/ubuntu/ utopic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What I expected to happen:

After calling

ps2pdf -dCompressPages=false -DCompressFonts=false test-pdf.ps

and then renaming the output, I get test-ubuntu.pdf, and Apple's Preview
version 8.0 will not follow the links.

If I do this using ghostscript 9.15 as packaged by the fink project on
Mac OS X 10.10.1, as documented here:

[Media-Mac-mini-3:~/Downloads] lucier% fink list | grep ghostscript
fc-ghostscript-fonts20110722-1 Add ghostscript fonts to
fontconfig search
i ghostscript 9.15-1 Interpreter for PostScript and PDF
ghostscript-esp 9.14-3 Ghostscript with better CJK and cups support
 i ghostscript-fonts 8.11+urwcyr1.0.7pre44-1 Standard fonts for
Ghostscript
ghostscript-nox 9.15-1 Interpreter for PostScript and PDF
gv 3.7.3-1 X11 interface for ghostscript interpreter
x-ghostscript-fonts 20020206-3 Allows X11 to use ghostscript
fonts

I get test-macosx.pdf, which does allow Preview to follow the links. If
I give the same command on RHEL6, with

zariski-101% gs --version
8.70

(surely with some back-patched fixes), I get test-RHEL6.pdf, which again
does allow Preview to follow the links.

I think the relevant fix in ghostscript 9.15 was this patch:

http://git.ghostscript.com/?p=ghostpdl.git;a=commitdiff;h=c79b0ee1dbc1cbbcbe406abd4bc47f617ed5cb2c

and the correct fix may be just to upgrade to this version.

I'll upload the test files.

[Bug 720446] Re: memory leak in compiz when using places, dashboard, and exposing launcher icons with multiple quicklists

2011-12-07 Thread luc...@math.purdue.edu
This is still broken as of today, December 7, 2011, in 11.10

Why not use this bug for tracking unity memory leaks? I've participated
a lot in gcc bugzilla, and in my experience I don't see the reasoning
behind closing a bug that is of critical and/or high importance when
the problem still exists.

Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?]

What it says about ghostscript and lbigs8 make sense, but I'm hesitant
to continue when it says that all those other packages (I'm not really
sure what they do) are to be REMOVED.

Should I go ahead and remove these packages?

[Bug 583990] Re: ps2pdf does not create proper hyperlinks

2010-07-07 Thread luc...@math.purdue.edu
Till:

I appreciate how you're interacting with the Ghostscript developers and
shepherding bugs through their bug system and IRC channel. Thanks!

I disagree, however, with setting the importance of this bug to low.

First, while I used ps2pdf12 as an example, it similarly doesn't work
with ps2pdf13 or ps2pdf14.

More important is the following. I've been using Linux systems to
produce a series of e-books, an example of which is at

http://www.trillia.com/zakon1.html

(search for download the book). If I use the version of ghostscript
currently in 10.04 to produce the books, then none of the links work:
not from the PDF table of contents in the sidebar, nor from the book's
table of contents, nor from the index to the interior of the book, nor
from references like From Theorem 7 in Section 3. In short, there's
almost no added value to producing an e-book in PDF without these links.

The IRC channel discussion seems to conclude that production steps I use
for my books is the preferred way to produce PDF files for viewing on
several platforms or with several viewers, but it doesn't work if this
bug isn't fixed.

I interpret your preceding comment that the upstream bug fix likely
won't get shipped until the 10.10 release time frame. Six months is a
long time not to be able to produce hyperlinked documents in Ubuntu.

It used to work on 9.10. (I don't have any more 9.10 machines,
unfortunately, I converted them all to 10.04 before I found this bug.)

[Bug 420688] [NEW] emacs22 takes almost 4 minutes to load large C file

2009-08-28 Thread luc...@math.purdue.edu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: emacs22-common

To reproduce: Download and gunzip the file

http://www.math.purdue.edu/~lucier/launchpad/1/_num.c.gz

Loading into emacs22 with

emacs _num.c

takes about 4 minutes of CPU time on a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo until the text
appears. I have not .emacs file.

Ubuntu 9.04

The package is emacs22-common 22.20ubuntu2.

Uninstalling emacs22 and installing

emacs21 21.4a+1-5.6

fixes the problem (the file loads instantly).
