[Bug 1831599] [NEW] No display activity when coming out of powersave ("kernel BUG at mm/slub.c:296!")
Public bug reported: Since a few weeks, my displays won't wake up from display powersave. The machine stays responsive via SSH. This first occurred on Ubuntu 18.04, and keeps happening on 18.10 (which I had updated to in the hopes of fixing the issue that way). The only escape I've found from this state is via magic SysRq. It can be triggered reliably by waiting for the screensaver to kick in (e.g. overnight). = Note a kernel bug warning in CurrentDmesg.txt = ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu8 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.18.0-20.21-generic 4.18.20 Uname: Linux 4.18.0-20-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13.3 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' Date: Tue Jun 4 13:40:47 2019 DistUpgraded: 2019-05-22 12:26:07,943 DEBUG Running PostInstallScript: './xorg_fix_proprietary.py' DistroCodename: cosmic DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: spl, 0.7.9, 4.18.0-20-generic, x86_64: installed (WARNING! [Bug 1568222] [NEW] chromium depends on libgnome-keyring0
Public bug reported: Observation: Chromium depends on libgnome-keyring0 $ apt-cache rdepends libgnome-keyring0 | grep chromium chromium-browser chromium-browser Expectation: It doesn't depend on it. Rationale: The issue is: I installed Lubuntu, not Ubuntu. I don't use Gnome. For these reasons gnome-keyring doesn't acutally work correctly for me, rather it interferes with gnupg-agent, inserting itself in the middle of the password handling. So I would like to get rid of it, only to find that quite a few packages depend on gnome-keyring for nor obvious reason. [Bug 889706] Re: Gnome-shell randomly crashes
@Gwendal: I notice you've been quiet for a while. I suppose you've run out of ideas, and since your own box is stable, you have no way of testing. I know it must be frustrating for you to fight such a persistent bug. But do you think you could make another try, or maybe make some suggestions? I would be willing to help track down this bug. Unfortunately, this bug is so disruptive to me that I am considering ditching Mint/MGSE/whatever causes this. Mind you this is not some kind of stupid threat - it's just that this is my main work machine, and I can't work with being interrupted up to every few minutes. Interestingly, the bug never appears on my notebook. This is a pretty slow box with Intel HD graphics and a Core2 Solo processor - maybe Wei En was right in his suspicion that it occurs on faster graphics adapters. Allow me to post a summary of my situation in the hope that we find something we missed before: Versions: libglib2.0-0 is at 2.30.2-4ubuntu1~oneiric1 gnome-shell is at 3.2.2.1-0ubuntu1~oneiric1 gnome-shell-common is at 3.2.2.1-0ubuntu1~oneiric1 fglrx-updates is at 2:8.911-0ubuntu0.1 (I tried several others, no change) Hardware: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T ATI Radeon HD 5700 graphics I have a dual-screen setup <- we have never discussed this before My observation is that this bug seems to happen in conjunction with creation of windows. I say this because it may also bite if a message box opens. Also frequently when opening the overview. Crash frequency also varies: there may be times when the intervals are short (say, 3) minutes, and then I may go for an hour or longer without a crash. Probably depending on whether I open many windows - I never got a crash while just watching movies. I use realatively few programs. [Bug 632515] [NEW] kile installation automatically pulls in lilypond-doc, which is 399MB in size
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kile Observation: When I use synaptic to install kile, it automaticallly pulls in the suggested package lilypond (which I have no intention on ever using), and lilypond in turn suggests lilypond-doc. Using the default settings, these get installed automatically. Not only is this over the top, but lilypond-doc is 142MB to download, 399MB installed. Considering that the whole download synaptic suggested to install kile was 216MB, about 2/3 of that were entirely unnecessary. Expectation: In general, fewer packages of almost no relevance should be selected for installation automatically. Whether this is achieved by cutting down on suggestions or by setting the package manager to not automatically install suggested packages can be debated. Suggestion: As an immediate fix, don't recommend lilypond from kile. Those who know it and want to use it will have no trouble explicitly selecting it. This might actually be a general bug against the Ubuntu packaging system, which I personally find too generous at times. ** Affects: kile (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- kile installation automatically pulls in lilypond-doc, which is 399MB in size https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/632515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kile in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 425372] Re: GeForce 7050 PV does not work on karmic alpha-5 - shows video corruption
OBSERVATION: Happens to me too. Datapoint: lspci says the Adapter is: nVidia Corporation C68 [GeForce 7050 PV / nForce 630a] (rev a2) I got a garbled screen on X startup, but I could drop to console and manually install nvidia-glx the way detailed in comment #9 . I didn't try to boot into safe mode, so no idea whether that would have worked. EXPECTATION: X should start without trouble, perhaps by falling back to a safe default. -- GeForce 7050 PV does not work on karmic alpha-5 - shows video corruption https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/425372 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 368959] Re: USB devices is not being automounted after connect it
An interesting observation: I use kmail for mail, and its Save Attachment dialog displays my USB drive as an external device. If I click on it, it gets mounted as expected, and at that instant, gnome acts as if it just realized it had been plugged in and pops open an action dialog. It is then listed in the sidebar as an external drive, just as I would expect in the first place, and is accessible (and unmountable) through nautilus. Suspicion: I now have the impression it the reason might be KDE and GNOME fighting over the USB devices. Will try and investigate further. [Bug 368959] Re: USB devices is not being automounted after connect it
Yet more info: I've now discovered that while my harddrive automounts, it can't be unmounted through nautilus. Instead it tells me "Device to unmount is not in /media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted by HAL", and indeed, /media/.hal-mtab is empty. Odd. [Bug 368959] Re: USB devices is not being automounted after connect it
One more data point: My USB harddrive (formatted with ext3) now automounts as expected. It didn't do that before. Other USB devices still don't. I suspect this change is connected with software updates I did yesterday, but I haven't found an obvius package. [Bug 368959] Re: USB devices is not being automounted after connect it
BTW, calling gnome-mount from the shell works as expected, the device is mounted and the usual "what would you like to do?" window is displayed. [Bug 368959] Re: USB devices is not being automounted after connect it
I wonder if this is caused by two automounters fighting over the devices? It's a long shot, but I have both the ubuntu and kubuntu metapackages installed, and perhaps this is the root cause. Mind you, only one user is logged in at all times, so KDE and Gnome never run in parallel - except for the fact that I use some KDE programs all the time. Hi Rich, apparently we need some more information to understand this problem. To be honest, at the moment it seems rather more like a configuration problem than a bug to me, but we'll try to work this out. I missed something the first time: your fstab is still not entirely correct: The lines /dev/sdg /media/usb1 rw,user, noauto 0 0 /dev/sdh /media/usb2 rw,user, noauto 0 0 are missing a filesystem type like this (assuming they use FAT): /dev/sdg /media/usb1 vfat rw,user, noauto 0 0 /dev/sdh /media/usb2 vfat rw,user, noauto 0 0 Could you please do the following: - post the output of lsusb - post the result an attempt at manually mounting one of your USB devices: sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sdg /mnt (this example is assuming the device has a VFAT filesystem) - post the output of dmesg, once more Thanks a lot for helping us. Hi, thanks for taking the time to report problem. It seems this is not a bug but simply a typo in your /etc/fstab Instead of "nonauto", you need to use "noauto" (note: *no* instead of *non*). Correcting this should solve your problem. If it doesn't please reopen this bug report by clicking on the current status, under the Status column, and change the Status back to "New".
