I have built all 4.15.x releases and 4.16rc from source kernel.org and
confirm nvivia-304 will not build. Am looking at learning how to install
patch. This should be reported to kernel.org as well

[Bug 1432171] Re: [udev] Shows "starting version 219" boot message even with "quiet"

2015-08-24 Thread Matt R
i had the same problem with simply a black screen and 'starting version
219'

This is how i fixed it hope it works for others...

I think the problem happened during the orginal update so i rebooted and
went into my bootloader (got there by pressing f12 but for some it may
be shift'), chose advanced options and loaded an earlier version of
ubuntu. Then i did the usual sudo apt-get update && upgrade which fixed
the problem.

A very simple fix but hopefully it will help others out

[Bug 89558] Re: Soft Lockup, hdc: drive not ready for command

2008-05-14 Thread Matt R
I have the same problem with Ubuntu 8.04 on a Thinkpad R30. The hard
drive light stays solid and if I flip over to another terminal window I
get the hdc: drive not ready for command line over and over. Seems to
happen randomly, but I know its happening when bootup takes longer and
the hard drive light is solid with no actual hard drive activity
happening. Also, when this happens there is a blank disc icon on the
desktop, but there is nothing in the CD-ROM drive. I'm using the
2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP kernel and both my bios and OS are up-to-date.
Anyone have any ideas?
