[Bug 425817] Re: update-manager battery warning has two buttons with the same accelerator

2009-09-12 Thread mattduckman
Taking away the accelerators or making them unique, either way I think
it should changed.

By the way, right now the enter key is equivalent to 'Close' and the esc
key is equivalent to 'Continue', which is opposite to the behavior that
Matthew described.

Not installed but in repositories: terminal.app, xubuntu-default-settings,

[Bug 426027] [NEW] /dev/disk/by-uuid doesn't exist in karmic kernels

2009-09-07 Thread mattduckman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I have a Dell Mini that I upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic, and when
booting the Karmic kernel, /dev/disk/by-uuid doesn't exist, which causes
some problems in booting since uuids are used by default. When I still
had the Jaunty kernel hanging around, it would have /dev/disks/by-uuid

So here's what I got in /dev/dsik:

[Bug 387465] [NEW] [karmic] screen blanks while watching videos in totem

2009-06-15 Thread mattduckman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

The old behavior prior to upgrading to karmic was that totem would
prevent the screen from dimming or blanking while watching a video.

With the new version of gnome-power-manager in karmic, the screen will
dim and blank while watching videos in totem, requiring that the mouse
be moved every 10 minutes.

I'm pretty sure that gnome-power-manage is to blame because it was
updated before the new version of totem came out, and I've been having
this problem ever since the gnome-power-manager update.

2009-06-14 Thread mattduckman
Public bug reported:

Wireless disconnects randomly (about every 10 - 30 minutes) and won't
reconnect automatically. By looking at syslog, it looks like this is
because network manager marks the connection invalid. The cause of the
disconnects seems to be the lease failing to be renewed. This problem
only happens when I'm connected to this particular wireless switch
(called default in the log), but doesn't occur to others using windows
and mac os. The wireless driver I use is wl.

[Bug 381684] Re: Need to produce a transitional binary package for LRM

2009-06-14 Thread mattduckman
Not everyone has a broadcom wireless card though. I feel that this
transition should be handled by jockey instead. It should detect when
restricted hardware is in use and let the user know their option of
installing a restricted module. Right now that doesn't happen, and I
had to install bcmwl-kernel-source manually.

[Bug 386855] [NEW] compiz segfaults when using colorfilter plugin

2009-06-13 Thread mattduckman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

when trying to use colorfilter, this is what happens:

- I press the keyboard shortcut
- Everything except the mouse freezes
- About 5 seconds later compiz crashes

When run in the terminal, i get this message:

Mesa 7.4.1 implementation error: i915_program_error: Exceeded max ALU
instructions
Please report at bugzilla.freedesktop.org
Segmentation fault

I've never used colorfilter before, so I don't know if this is a
regression or not. I'm using Karmic. I'll do a backtrace later tonight.

[Bug 317781] Re: Ext4 data loss

2009-01-16 Thread mattduckman
This has happened to me twice, the first time erasing Firefox settings,
and the second time erasing gnome-terminal settings. Both cases were
caused by a kernel panic locking up the system. Also, both times the
program whose settings were affected was in use during the kernel panic.

An important note is that these data losses have been taken place on an
ext3 partition that is mounted as ext4 in fstab, so it is not a true
ext4 partition.

This is taking place on fully up-to-date Jaunty.

[Bug 311076] [NEW] hang on BOGUS LENGTH in write keyboard desc

2008-12-23 Thread mattduckman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

anything else*

on the xserver in jaunty, i get random hangs where the entire system is
unresponsive, meaning that i can't escape to a tty, restart the
computer, or even do a sysreq-REISUB. this has happened twice, both
times while using my bluetooth mouse, so that might be the cause of it.
in both logs there's a line that seems important:

[xkb] BOGUS LENGTH in write keyboard desc, expected 5976, got 5992

[Bug 265127] Re: [intrepid] network manager repeatedly asks for key, cannot connect to secured networks

2008-09-19 Thread mattduckman
(I assume that you are on intrepid)

That's correct.

This could mean that your driver is causing issues. Do you have a
chance to test WPA? (not WEP)

That other router that mentioned before that never has problems uses
WPA.

 2. ensure that you have nothing except the lo interface configured
in /etc/network/interfaces (if you have something configured,
disable those sections and see if the problems go away; if it
helps, stop here!)

Nothing but lo in my interfaces file.

 3. try to boot an older kernel (if you still have that) and see if it
things improve (if that helps report and stop here!)

I tried linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic, and it worked! You mentioned
above that this could be a driver issue, and that looks like it's the
case. I use ndiswrapper for a BCM 4328 chip. I had always though the
update to network-manager 0.7 was causing this problem, but now it looks
like there's a regression in the ndiswrapper module.

If you agree that this is the problem, I'll file a bug against the
kernel.

Thanks,
Matt

[Bug 265127] Re: [intrepid] network manager repeatedly asks for key, cannot connect to secured networks

2008-09-16 Thread mattduckman
I'm experiencing this bug as well, and have some information about it.

When I try to connect to this particular wireless router (called
'default'), it fails and I get the password box. If I check Show
Password, I get a whole bunch hex crap instead of my actual password.
But I if keep on clicking Connect in the password box without changing
the password, it will eventually succeed.

This problem has only happened using my router; there's another router
that I use that never fails to connect. (I think they use different
encryption methods; I'm not near the other router right now, but if you
need information about it, let me know.)

I've attached the syslog showing me connecting to my router and pushing
the Connect button over and over again until it works. I think it took 5
tries until it worked. This starts on line 2570 of the log.

Thanks for all your help, Alexander, and I hope this aids in getting
this problem resolved.
