[Bug 1958022] Re: fish integration broken in focal

2022-01-25 Thread maurizio de santis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1957948 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1957948

This bug is present in fish < 3.2, because fish_add_path has been added
in fish 3.2: https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/releases/tag/3.2.0

So a quick and dirty workaround is installing the official fish PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~fish-shell/+archive/ubuntu/release-3

[Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support (Bluetooth A2DP codecs).

2020-10-14 Thread maurizio de santis
I've just logged in to share the workaround I've been using for the last
two years. I have a Sony WH-1000XM3 Bluetooth headset, I bought the
following USB key Bluetooth transmitter:
https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B01G3J1I5M/

No issues with it, audio quality is great either for music and for
calls, both incoming audio and mic.

It saved me from installing another OS for work, I hope it might be a
good alternative for someone else.

[Bug 1449905] Re: Add Fraunhofer FDK AAC support to ffmpeg package

2015-05-20 Thread maurizio de santis
Thank you for the response.

I used this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~samrog131/+archive/ubuntu/ppa ,
which includes ffmpeg with FDK support.

It is a pretty good PPA, since includes ffmpeg update-alternatives
option too, which is very useful since you can have various ffmpeg
versions installed in this way.

[Bug 1449905] [NEW] Add Fraunhofer FDK AAC support to ffmpeg package

2015-04-29 Thread maurizio de santis
Public bug reported:

[FEATURE REQUEST]

ffmpeg package on Ubuntu misses of Fraunhofer FDK AAC support:

$ ffmpeg -h
ffmpeg version 2.5.6-0ubuntu0.15.04.1 Copyright (c) 2000-2015 the FFmpeg
developers
built with gcc 4.9.2 (Ubuntu 4.9.2-10ubuntu13)
  configuration: --prefix=/usr --extra-version=0ubuntu0.15.04.1
--build-suffix=-ffmpeg --toolchain=hardened --libdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
--shlibdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu --incdir=/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu

--enable-libx264 --enable-libsoxr --enable-gnutls --e
 nable-openal --enable-libopencv --enable-librtmp --enable-libx265

Fraunhofer FDK AAC is the only decent aac encoder supported by ffmpeg,
and aac encoding is crucial for web media encodings, which are tipically
(unfortunately) mp4 with h264/aac encodings.

That forces me to compile my own ffmpeg version in order to produce web
media files.

Fraunhofer FDK AAC is already present on Ubuntu as libfdk-aac0 package.

[Bug 1070041] [NEW] NetworkManager hangs starting the service when it is configured for a wireless network which it is not available anymore

2012-10-22 Thread maurizio de santis
Public bug reported:

Booting the PC today the Ubuntu screen was blocked at startup time,
after a green [OK] and a white blinking underscore.

In recovery mode I figured out the problem: NetworkManager hung trying
to connect to a wireless network that wasn't available anymore, and so I
couldn't reach the prelogin level.

I can reproduce it in this way:

1) Connect to a wireless network when logged
2) Shutdown the wireless router
3) Reboot

The OS should not show the lightdm screen, but a black screen with a
white blinking underscore.

Probably it is reproducible also without rebooting, just with `service
NetworkManager restart`, but I didn't tried.
