[Bug 785592] [NEW] Battery status marked as charged whereas it's not
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: acpi This is very odd. The problem is that it won't charge, no matter what I do with it. This started happening after upgrading to Ubuntu 11.4. What can I do? If it matters, it's a Lenovo Thinkpad. [Bug 372090] Re: Touchpad gets stuck and is generally unresponsive
Alright, this bug is 1.5 years old, but I am still keen on getting it fixed. I can confirm that with Windows the touchpad works 100% fine. With Linux, it's absolutely awful. I am installing Maverick right now, to see if it still does it -- I doubt it will be fixed, but you never know. I am happy to ship this laptop anywhere to a developer, so that they can actually use it and see it. In the meantime, as soon as Maverick is installed, *what* extra info would you like? [Bug 372090] Re: Touchpad gets stuck and is generally unresponsive
No worries about the delay. I have just finished the update. I am just about to complete a fresh installation, will let you know soon. I am afraid this bug affects very few people, and it's sort of subtle. But I am totally happy to send my laptop to a developer to get it tested properly... I think that's the only way! [Bug 372090] Re: Touchpad gets stuck and is generally unresponsive
Hi, OK, here I am. The bug is still there. It's _annoyingly_ subtle -- I can see how a lot of developers wouldn't eve notice by using the touchpad just for a few seconds. The touchpad works. However, this is exactly what happens: ONLY AFTER leaving it still for a couple of seconds, there is a 200m or 400ms (milliseconds) delay between you moving your finger and the pointer coming to life. If after that pause you keep on moving the mouse, it goes *perfectly* well. If you stop for a little bit, and try to move it again, it will be stuck again -- your finger can move up to about a centimetre, or more, before the pointer finally moves. The usability result of this are disastrous. You know something is wrong, you tend to blame the surface of the touchpad, you clean it, and after a while it stresses the hell out of you. Please let me know what info I could provide to see if this can be fixed. I am pretty good with Linux. I have already: * Checked the settings under Mouse - Touchpad. Disable touch while typing doesn't seem to make a difference. Disabling or enabling edge scrolling doesn't make a difference either. I have been travelling with this laptop with an external mouse for 1 year and a half. I will decommission it in 6 months. When I do, I will have to install Windows on it again, as I can't put anybody through this touchpad... [Bug 379517] Re: touchpad mouse stutters/stops on slow movement
Hi, This is probably not good news, but... I uninstalled xserver-xorg-input- synaptics . Things got better... and worse. Things got better meaning that now the delay between the finger movement and the actual mouse movement is not as bad. Worse because now the pointer is stuttery -- especially when using it for precise movements, it just seems to move around a lot. Maybe the problem is not Synaptics after all? [Bug 372090] Re: Touchpad gets stuck and is generally unresponsive
Hi, I just wanted to add that I downgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 (I can't deal with computer freezes... I don't have a test machine, sorry :( ). Now... the problem is _there_ as well! But, it's much more subtle. I think it's subtle enough to make people slightly hate their touchpad and Ubuntu in general, but it's not clear enough (not in 8.10) to go Ah, that's what's happening!. In 8.10 as well, there is a small delay from when the touchpad has input to when the driver actually does something about it. I must say the problem is WAY less in 8.10 than 9.04, but I _guarantee_ it's there. If you know it's there, you suddenly realise why you hate the touchpad and you see clearly the delay. In 9.04, the problem is multiplied by 5x (give or take), and that's why people noticed. I am happy to provide whatever info you might need. [Bug 372090] [NEW] Touchpad gets stuck and is generally unresponsive
Public bug reported: Hi The touchpad doesn't work on Ubuntu 9.04 (the latest) There is some information about this bug here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7209519posted=1#post7209519 Please note that I am JUST covering the touchpad issue here. The problem seems to be with elantech touchpads. From my understanding of this bug, what's happening is that if the mouse is not moving for a few seconds, and then the touchpad is used, it takes a little while for the driver to kick in. As a result, there is a sense of getting stuck. Note that this problem makes the touchpad semi-unusable. Between this, and the Intel video card issue, the upgrade to 9.04 made my computer hardly usable... Not sure how to debug this. It's hard enough to make sense of it... Here's my uname: Linux merc-laptop 2.6.20-6-generic #2 SMP Wed Jan 31 20:53:39 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux The wireless network is detected. However, the DHCP seems to have a bit of a problem. It will work for a while - the computer will get a DHCP lease without a problem. However, after a while after suspending/unsuspending the computer, the system will not be able to obtain a DHCP lease anymore. As far as the lights are concerned, when I try to get Network Manager to lease an IP address, it actually looks like the system manages (the light blinks, it stays on for a tick, and then it goes away again). [Bug 77104] Battery Monitor -- time remaining estimates incorrect to start with
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets Hello, There is a bit of a problem with the battery applet. I am using Feisty with all the updates, and a Lenovo V100 laptop. The problem is especially there at the beginning. After a while, things get better. However, it takes a little too long. This is a table of what the monitor tells me. At this point, the machine had been running for about 15 minutes (and the battery left was just silly to start with, but that's OK). Here we go: Time - Battery left 5:20PM - 1.54 5:21PM - 1.48 5:25PM - 1.35 5:30PM - 1.28 5:40PM - 1.15 5:45PM - 1.09 5:50PM - 1.04 5:55PM - 1.00 6.00PM - 0.56 6.05PM - 0.50 As you can see, it only starts telling the truth after about 35 minutes (that's 15 minutes before I started logging, plus 20 minutes after starting logging). [Bug 56421] Re: ipw3945 doesn't reassociate after suspend
Then this is surely a userspace problem. ...is anybody dealing with this? My script now reads: #!/bin/bash echo Killing dhclient3 and ipw3945d killall dhclient3 killall /sbin/ipw3945d-2.6.19-7-generic echo Wait 2 secs... sleep 2 echo Taking the modules out rmmod ipw3945 rmmod ieee80211 echo Deleting the PIDs rm -f /var/run/ipw3945d.pid rm -f /var/run/dhclient.eth1.pid echo Wait 1 sec... sleep 1 echo Inserting the ipw3945 module modprobe ipw3945 echo Wait 1 sec... sleep 1 echo Running the dhclient dhclient3 -pf /var/run/dhclient.eth1.pid -lf /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.eth1.leases eth1 It took a lot of trial-and-error. [Bug 77109] Suspend/resume broken in Lenovo 3000 V100
Public bug reported: Hello, I am not entirely sure how to go about it. Suspending is basically broken in my Lenovo 3000 V100. I am using Feisty, with the 2.6.19-7-generic kernel. [Bug 76632] Re: screen does not unlock after locking
Hello, Sorry, my previous comment was a case of cutpaste gone very wrong. I can confirm that the problem persists. However, installing Feisty from SCRATCH, and doing all of the updates at once, the problem is _not_ there. I think this is an important piece of information - could it be that the problem only shows for incremental updates? Can anybody else confirm this? I have 2.17.40-ubuntu2, and the problem is still there :-/ What is worse, I am about to kill the laptop with the problem (the one installed from scratch doesn't have the problem, and that's actually my laptop - the other one I just had from Lenovo for a product review... If nobody else has this problem, please do close the bug. Otherwise, please let me know which output you'd like... [Bug 56421] Re: ipw3945 doesn't reassociate after suspend
Hiya, I am not sure this is gonna help. However, I found that ifdown/ifup doesn't actually do the trick. What you _actually_ need to do is this: #!/bin/bash #echo Killing the DHCP client... killall dhclient3 rm /var/run/dhclient.eth1.pid #echo Restarting the DHCP client... dhclient3 -pf /var/run/dhclient.eth1.pid -lf /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.eth1.leases eth1 This actually does the trick quite nicely. I have no idea why this is. I know that dhclient3 is killed when the computer goes to sleep. But I don't understand what wakes it up, nor why it won't work normally as soon as the interface is up. Please note that it doesn't just take extra time - it will never connect. If you want me to run more tests, all you have to do is ask! Hi, Sorry, I should have said... [Bug 76079] Wireless silently fail when the PC is not authorised to connect to AP
Public bug reported: Hi, Sorry, I am not entirely sure which package this applies to. Here is the problem. I have a Modem/router Netgear DG834G and a laptop with Ubuntu Feisty on it. It works beautifully - wireless and everything. However, here is the problem. My router is configurable so that only pre-specified MAC addresses can connect to it. Yeah, it's very unsafe, but it's an overkill since there aren't houses around me. If my laptop is NOT in the list of approved MAC addresses, wireless networking will fail. And that's fair enough. HOWEVER, the problem is that it will fail QUIETLY, without telling me why or without even giving me an error message. If I do the very same thing with my Apple iBook, then a nice dialog box nicely tells you that the connection to the AP could not be established. I am not exactly a newbie; however, I was silly enough to forget about the MAC address issue (in fact, I thought I had disabled it) and spent hours and hours trying to figure out why it didn't connect. I really, really think having a message explaining that the connection could not be established is a _must_ here. I am not sure why this isn't happening already - maybe not many people use such a lame protection method? Well, I am not a big fan of quiet fails, so I thought I'd report this bug. Which package is involved here? Is ther a daemon that handles this? Thank you for listening :-D Merc. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Wireless silently fail when the PC is not authorised to connect to AP https://launchpad.net/bugs/76079 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
