[Bug 2063170] [NEW] gstreamer/qt unreliable playback due to pulseaudio bug

2024-04-22 Thread mokabar
Public bug reported:

i've been investigating bugs of the gstreamer backend of qt
(QTBUG-122424, QTBUG-122423). it seems that we run into a pulseaudio bug
that has been fixed in pulseaudio-17.

it would be great if this patch could be backported to the pulseaudio 16-based
packages:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/merge_requests/745

many thanks,
tim

[Bug 2055842] [NEW] pulseaudio: request backporting of upstream patch

2024-03-03 Thread mokabar

i've been investigating bugs of the gstreamer backend of qt

that has been fixed in pulseaudio-17.

what would it take to backport the corresponding fix?
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/merge_requests/745
(i've verified that a local build of pulseaudio with that patch fixes
the issue).

[Bug 1157244] [NEW] backport eglibc performance regression fix

2013-03-19 Thread mokabar
Public bug reported:

glibc-2.17 has a performance regression, which causes one of my
workloads to spend a significant amount of cpu time in feraiseexcept.
this regression has already been fixed in glibc's git repository
(http://repo.or.cz/w/glibc.git/commit/0b57daeb) and it would be great,
if this fix could be backported.

[Bug 1153318] [NEW] emacs/gui does not start when .gtkrc-20 file present

2013-03-10 Thread mokabar
Public bug reported:

after upgrading one of my machines from 12.10 to 13.04, emacs does not
start any more, unless i specify -nw to launch in console mode. the
emacs window appears, but without any content.

investigating, it seems to be related to the ~/.gktrc-2.0 file: when
removing this, emacs starts fine. the file seems to be written by the
kde's systemsettings, its content is:

`
include /usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

[Bug 1041117] [NEW] valgrind/avx support

2012-08-24 Thread mokabar
Public bug reported:

valgrind 3.7 does not support avx instructions. 3.8 does. this limits
the usefulness of valgrind, as even glibc now generates avx instructions
(e.g. for the libm functions). therefore i'd propose to upgrade the
package to 3.8

[Bug 891096] [NEW] boinc does not use low-priority processes

2011-11-16 Thread mokabar
Public bug reported:

boinc seems to run its jobs with a niceness of 19 as user `boinc'.

when i am running 4 processes (gcc) on a 4-core machine at a niceness of
5, i'd expect the boinc process to be idle (because it has a lower
niceness). but in fact the boinc process takes one full CPU, while the
user jobs are restricted to the other CPUs. it seems that the scheduler
interprets the niceness not globally, but per-user (maybe related to
cgroups)?

iac, it would be great, if this could be addressed.

2011-04-03 Thread mokabar
btw, i think you are mixing up two issues:

- the latencytop kernel trace is completely unrelated to the issue (it is
related to drm, not to the tracing subsystem)
- the reported bug is not related to 2.6.39-rc1 (it also happens with the
ubuntu-stock kernel)

libstdc++.so from  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.5.2/
point to /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu and to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu, where

i really like, doing beta tests, because of the friendly comments, that
you get from maintainers, when trying to tell them about a bug related
to their software.

there seem to be several people on the #kubuntu-dev channel, that have
this issue. probably someone else will spent his time on this.

If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
on your system.

If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the KBUILD_OUTPUT or
the O KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the equivalent nvidia-installer command line option.

Depending on where and how the kernel sources (or the

[Bug 503361] Re: noisy playback of 24bit/96khz flac files

2010-01-07 Thread mokabar
1) What backend are you using for aqualung?

aqualung doesn't have the notion of `backend'. it natively decodes via
libsndfile or libflac, resamples via libsamplerate and plays back via
libjack

2) Is playback still noisy playing files with xine-ui in a terminal?

xine tries to display a video (black with a few white points).
interestingly, the stream info shows that no video stream is available
and that the audio stream format is 96000khz/16 bit, while the file is a
24bit file

3) What version of xine and phonon are you running?

libjack1: Version: 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu4+withjack1
libphonon4: Version: 4:4.3.1-4ubuntu1

[Bug 503361] Re: noisy playback of 24bit/96khz flac files

2010-01-06 Thread mokabar
1) play the files with another media program

aqualung plays the files fine

2) play other files (standard mp3s or other filetype)

other flac files (44.1/48kHz) work fine

3) switch the phonon backend gstreamer-xine

i'm using the xine backend, since the gstreamer backend doesn't play
back anything on my machine.

xine/44kHz: good playback
xine/96kHz: noisy playback
gstreamer/anything: no playback

(i don't want to start debugging gstreamer)

4) Also, what version of Ubuntu are you running? Are you fully updated
on patches?

same issue here: nvidia module builds fine, but isn't loaded at startup,

the setup for many people, who may not have the experience of 10 years
