[Bug 1863992] [NEW] 32 bit libGL missing

2020-02-19 Thread monkeybrain2012
Public bug reported:

Though the packages seem to be installed in the same location as before
/usr/lib32/nvidia-430 but the system apparently doesn't pick it up

ldconfig -p | grep libGL.so
libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-430/libGL.so.1
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-430/libGL.so

a couple of wine apps stops working complaining that libGL.so not found.

With Nvidia-418

ldconfig -p | grep libGL.so
libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-418/libGL.so.1
libGL.so.1 (libc6) => /usr/lib32/nvidia-418/libGL.so.1
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-418/libGL.so
libGL.so (libc6) => /usr/lib32/nvidia-418/libGL.so

See with Nvidia-430 the 32 bit libGL.so is not being picked up.

Ubuntu 16.04

[Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update

2018-07-05 Thread monkeybrain2012
It affected lightdm as well. I run unity in 18.04 and use lighdm and the
boot time has gone from 4 secs to 4 minutes with 4.15.0-24. Brad's
workaround(#21) by installing haveged also works for lightdm.

[Bug 1305438] Re: hot corners stop working time to time

2014-06-23 Thread monkeybrain2012
The corners are working in 13.10 after disabling auto plugin sorting and
ordering the plugins in cetain ways. I use scale, expo and wall flippng. In
13.10 expo can be placed anywhere, wall has to be at the bottom for the edges
to be renembered. scale has to be close to the bottom for the hot corner to be
remmebered.

But then when 14.04 comes out this doesn't work anymore. Now expo has to
be at the very bottom, and for some reasons scale has to be above unity-
shell in the list or triggering scale would kill unity instantly. scale
and wall still have to be close to the bottom. This doesn't leave much
room. After some trial and error only ordering that works is scale
unity scale addon wall expo in descending order and expo at the
very bottom.

This has been working for some times and then after reccent unity
updated from 7.2.0 to 7.2.1 scales stops remembering corner (it also
break other things) so I downgraded it and it works again. Then since
yesterday scale has suddenly stopped working and I have still no clue
why.

It is really gettng very frustrating. These bugs have been around in one
variation or other since 12.04 (or before), they never get fixed but
everytime when a new Ubuntu release comes out they move things around
in such a way that it breaks workarounds that previously works.

P.S. Christopher Townsend's PPA does not work, scale still doesn't
remember corners.

[Bug 1305438] Re: hot corners stop working time to time

2014-06-23 Thread monkeybrain2012
Disabling SHOW LIVE PREVIEWS OF WINDOWS IN THE SWITCHER may work for
show desktop, but I don't use it so I can't tell. However it doesn't
work on scale's hot corner on reboot. You still have to log out and then
log in again for the corner to activate, but then you may as well
restart Unity, it is faster (without disabling show live preview
logout and login doesn't work at all)

My previous workaround a few months ago doesn't seem to work anymore,
mostly lilkely thanks to some updates along the way (tested with
different hard drives).
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/858845/comments/59
Half of the times unity just doesn't start properly and have to
manually shut down, on reboot it goes through disk checking and what
not. It seems that somehow for whatever reason the file system get
corrupted if restarting Unity doesn't complete successfully at start up
(manually restarting after login is OK) Have reformatted and restore
from last working image many times since last night. Well if they don't
fix something at least don't screw it up with updates, now I have no
idea which update is the culprit.

[Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible

2014-04-29 Thread monkeybrain2012
After yesterday's update it seems to be fixed. Yay!

Still need the following workaround:
Open ccsm, go to Preferences and disable auto-sorting. Expo has to be at the
bottom of the plugin list for hot corner to be remembered. Then followed by
(in ascending order, i.e going up the list) scaleaddon, unity shell and scale
so hot corner for spread (scale) would work too. Basically the same work around
in 13.10 but the order wasn't as stringent before. In particular hot corner for
expo used to work without being near the bottom of the plugin list.

Haven't brought in edge flip for wall, I just set the unity launcher to
auto-hide this time. Not sure if edge flip will work (used to have to
place wall at the bottom, but the spot is now taken by expo, if put it
in second place scale get pumped up so that may not work)

It is not really a fix but at least the work around from before sort of
works. I am relief.

This is a crude temporary work around.
Make a bash script

#!/bin/bash
setsid unity

Then add it to 'startup applications' so it runs automatically on startup
Rebooted and cold booted may be 20 times and have been working except maybe
twice or three times where the session might be corrupted (show black borders
when exposing workplaces instead of the orange high lighter) There may be a
slight delay in login time but not obvious here.

[Bug 858845] Re: Screen edge actions set in CCSM (scale/expo) don't work (sometimes) - Wall plugin is probably responsible

2014-04-26 Thread monkeybrain2012
I can confirm that expo/scale hot corners don't work in 14.04 . This is
an Intel machine (ironlake gpu) , so it has nothing to do with Nvidia or
nouveau.

Also the workarounds that involve re-ordering the plugins in ccsm
(disable auto-sorting) and /or dconf/gconf editor for previous versions
of Ubuntu don't work anymore. In 14.04 expo hot corner won't work unless
it is at the very bottom of the list. Scale cannot be further down than
Unity shell or initiating scale would kill unity.

A work around would be to add the command unity --replace to startup
application. It works, but very ugly.

2014-04-26 Thread monkeybrain2012
Turns out the start up command is not such a good idea, it leads to some
graphic glitches as well as momentarily freezing, maybe it is restarting
unity constantly? Also running unity --restart somehow removes the
orange outline of highlighted workplace in expo and leaves for ugly
black edges.

2014-04-26 Thread monkeybrain2012
I could be wrong but I don't think scale was listed as an unity-plugin
dependencies before, but it is in 14.04. That may explain why the
previous work around no longer works (can't put scale further down than
unity-shell or initiating scale hot corner would kill unity)

[Bug 1309702] [NEW] galternatives cannot add or choose alternatives

2014-04-18 Thread monkeybrain2012
Public bug reported:

Open the galternatives interface, go to an item that has alternatives
installed, try to add the alternative with Add, Browse .. Locate the
path . On clicking 'OK' the dialogue window just disappears without the
path being added.

I can add the alternative with the command line sudo update-
alternatives install .. the alternative then shows up in galternatives
but trying to click and choose it has no effect.

Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit. galternatives version 0.13.5+nmu2ubuntu1. This is the same
version works in Ubuntu 13.10 it.
I have the default unity interface, but galternatives does not work in lxde
and gnome-session-fallback metacity sessions either, so it is not a
unity/compiz problem.

** Affects: iputils (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

There has been many updates from xorg-edgers since this bug was
reported. Many people are left witha black screen without knowing what
is going on. Any comment from the maintainer??
