Jonathan Jesse Is it possible to post the brand of your laptop, soundcard and the kernel version. It would be nice to know on which other laptops the driver works. [Bug 122560] Re: no sound with 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller
I had a similar problem on my Dell Precision M4300 (one month old). After installing kubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5 - Released August 23rd, 2007 I had no sound at all #lspic |grep Audio showed me 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) So I used Mikes description (see aboth: Mike Richards wrote on 2007-08-28: (permalink) ) and the sound card worked, but ... now the problem. The speakers are always on even if I my headset is plugged in. (For some its a feature for me a problem) but does somebody knows a solution for that? I tried different settings on my KMix and on the AlsaMixer but without success.
