Re: [Bug 263555] Re: [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk
So can we expect an Ubuntu Alpha 7 with this Intel provide eeprom protection patch and the removal of the e1000 blacklisting? This will allow me to continue testing Intrepid on a machine with e1000 (and it needs at least Alpha 6 anyway because it has GMA 45000 graphics). Or is the hope that beta will wait for this critical problem to be fixed. -- [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263555 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 235560] Re: Connect to smb server by name doesn't work, but by IP address does
I have a Hardy Heron machine that is trying to connect to a share on a Gutsy machine and I get the same problem trying to connect to the share. If I follow the instructions to remove 'wins' from nsswitch on both sides (it was only originally on the Gutsy machine), enable the mdns4 on both sides then I can connect and browse using the .local suffix. Thing is I didn't want to have to type that... This is without any change to the resolve order in smb.conf To try and enable .local-less resolution and correct connecting and browsing I added wins to the nsswitch.conf line and uncommented the resolve order in smb.conf and set it to have wins at the end. But this did not work (although I could now ping without .local again) and the nautilus error on connecting to a share returned. I think I'm going to resign myself to having to type .local all the time... -- Connect to smb server by name doesn't work, but by IP address does https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235560 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 242966] Re: snd_pcsp can take precedence of soundcards
I can confirm that this bug occurs on Inspiron 700m with alpha 3 install - Salavan's fix https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa- driver/+bug/242966/comments/2 did not work but step 1 (only) of http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=866965 did cure the problem after reboot. -- snd_pcsp can take precedence of soundcards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/242966 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 252470] [NEW] Audio noise during sound playback in Inspiron 700m
Public bug reported: On my Dell Inspiron 700m with the default Intrepid alpha 3 install I get audio noise after a user login as it plays the login sound. The noise is overlayed with the actual audio which can still be heard albeit somewhat obscured. The hardware test applet says I have I82801DBICH4 audio. After login audio playback with Rhythmbox also has noise. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release:8.10 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Audio noise during sound playback in Inspiron 700m https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 179773] Re: window borders disappear with enhanced visual effects turned on
I had the same problem with Hardy Beta with an mx440 based card (Dell/nVidia P117) and after switching to the nvidia new driver from the repository, rebooting and reconfiguring my settings via the screens and graphics applet I was able to turn on effects but lost window borders. When I tried sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals it worked for me although I had to reboot afterwards. -- window borders disappear with enhanced visual effects turned on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179773 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 132776] Re: gutsy livecd fails in booting w/o irqpoll option on Abit IP35-Pro motherboard
Glad I found this! I installed Mythbuntu 7.10 on a GA-G33-S2H mobo system having G33 chipset, ICH9 (no RAID) and a SATA primary disk (plus IDE DVD/CD drive). The install and a few boots seemed to go great, then I switched the BIOS to enable ACHI mode for the disk and it fails to boot the OS after Grub. I know its not the system because my Windows partition still boots fine. I figured it was just the drive naming problem in the Grub boot line because previously it was in IDE compatibility mode. So I switced back to no-ACHI in BIOS as it was when I installed and it still wouldn't boot - just hangs immediately after selecting the OS from Grub. I will try the irqpoll option with and without ACHI mode enabled and see what happens. -- gutsy livecd fails in booting w/o irqpoll option on Abit IP35-Pro motherboard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132776 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 154552] Re: gparted crashes after unmounting a partition
I also have experienced the same problem - after unmounting an NTFS partition the first time it unmounted it and then hung while in the rescaning devices phase, subsequent times I've seen it segmentation fault immediately on clicking the unmount button. Running gparted again shows that the partition was actually unmounted. This is a clean install of Gutsy 7.10 Release Candidate 1 on a dell Inspiron 700m The about dialog says I have gparted 0.3.3 and the segmentation fault (if I run from command line) looks like this: == libparted : 1.7.1 == Segmentation fault (core dumped) I notice if I start gparted and just do 'refresh devices' on its own I get the same result - immediate segementation fault. -- gparted crashes after unmounting a partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154552 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 138256] Re: xserver-xorg-video-intel hangs the system when laptop lid is closed
I have the same problem with Dell Inspiron 700m which also uses the i855GM chip - it worked fine with the i810 driver so long as I used the i955 fix which would change the resolution to 1280x800 for me. The new Intel driver gives me correct resolution out of the box but I get the same black screen of death experiences that are unrecoverable by anything other than power cycling. I've seen them a) when logging out and b) when trying to hibernate. I have tried both with and without the frame buffer option in xorg.conf. It seems that if I reboot, login and logout immediately it sometimes works, otherwise it will fail and I have to power cycle. If I turn off the desktop effects the problem is much less common but I've still seen it - especially trying to hibernate or suspend. -- xserver-xorg-video-intel hangs the system when laptop lid is closed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
