[Bug 1895424] Re: duplicate rc local service

2021-01-11 Thread Mathew Newton
I resolved this by disabling one of the duplicate services with:

statusctl disable rc.local.service

A reboot confirms it to have fixed the problem with no (apparent) ill
effect.

[Bug 1895424] Re: duplicate rc local service

2021-01-09 Thread Mathew Newton
Posting to reporting I have exactly the same issue having recently
upgraded from 18.04.5 LTS to 20.04.1 LTS. Incidentally, I had previously
upgraded from 16.04 LTS too.

Any guidance how to remove the duplicate execution?

[Bug 1831355] [NEW] disco ubuntu installs but then grub-install hangs w GRUB-PROBE taking 100%cpu. I kill it for every opsys detected. that gets mea good grub.cfg. Then Edit...

2019-06-01 Thread robert Newton
Public bug reported:

grub-probe and grub-installer is in grub2 or grub2-efi ??

grub.cfg.new is written but is incomplete even after hour long wait..
I can cntl-page into another terminal-newTab.
'sudo Top' reports Grub-Probe is pegged at 100%.
Easy to kill w (k)kill the default top cpu using pid
REPEAT until grub-install or grub-update done...

(should I nano /etc/grub.d/20* w suspected calls??)
(I once cd /usr/sbin/;sudo bash; mv Gprobe Gprobe~; ln -fv true grub-probe !!)

Grub.cfg will then say 'set/ root=(hd0)' instead of (hd0,6) ARGHH

This happens even when hd0,1 is efi/vfat or ext2
And when /boot/grub=hd0,2 as ext2 so i can btrfs-tools -> convert to btrfs
later!

seems /@ and /@home is is xfrmd into / and /home by kernel but not by
grub.

btw: can grub-imageboot be explained better. I string `which memdisk` to
find RAW, Safe ETC.

[Bug 1822876] [NEW] Dovecot update overwrites local config

2019-04-02 Thread Mathew Newton via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

Using Aptitude I updated Dovecot (specifically dovecot-core:amd64) from
1:2.2.33.2-1ubuntu4.2 -> 1:2.2.33.2-1ubuntu4.3 and ended up with a non-
working installation. The reason for this is that the following config
files were completely overwritten (the latter two being the most
critical in my case):

/etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-logging.conf
/etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf
/etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-ssl.conf

I was able to manually restore my configs from backups but was wondering
if this really should have happened, at least without requesting
approval first and opportunity to deny/edit/etc?

Subject: [Bug 1822471] Re: Boot up

Hello,
the pastebin link is not working. Can you please paste another one?

Also,
can your system boot with 18.10 Cosmic? And does it crash after you upgrade it
(sudo apt-get dist-upgrade)?

Thanks

[Bug 1822321] Re: boot up 18.10 error after 1st install

2019-03-29 Thread Ray Newton
several attempts to install this current upgrade version...from ubuntu 18.04
only first install logs available!!! due to numerous attempts to fix the boot
start up for amd64. (constant reload of the initramfs..)
error no operating system found error messages.until using a usb flash burned
from WWW.ETCHER.IO.COM Works to install the version U18.10 after reboot system
crashes no boot.
dvd-rw fails all operations
several attepts to run USB -flash iso removed cmos battery. and success
several more attempts to rebbot after installing from usb FINALLY INSTALL eased
hdd.reinstalled so i could at least try and provide as much info as possible
from own laptop.during new install.
partion could be in wrong place it would seem..and mmefix86 may be ext2
changing to ext4 in 'e' option worked on grub5 did not work with grub 2.02
regards Ray (Gangster-Jesus ) + i am a novice on linux 12 months

[Bug 1705669] [NEW] Icon Onlly Task manager prevents bringing windows to foreground

2017-07-21 Thread Ian Newton
Public bug reported:

Using Icon Only Task manager in KDE 5.31 desktop panel.

If I click on the task manager with a window maximised the panel/task
manager hogs the foreground and will not allow the maximised window to
return to the foreground by a mouse click on the window.

The only work around is to set a shortcut key to raise the window.

This bug affects other distributions as I have the same problem with
KDEon Gentoo/Sabayon.

[Bug 1553121] Re: Xenial preseed fails to load key for 3rd party repo with apt-setup/local0/key

2017-06-12 Thread Andy Newton
Just hit this same problem adding the Puppetlabs PC1 repo. As far as I
can tell, the key is deployed, but apt hasn't been updated to use it.

Installation halts at the "select packages" phase. At this point, if I
chroot into /target, the Puppet Labs GPG key is present but if I try to
install puppet-agent, it shows as unauthenticated.

If I run apt-get update and THEN try the install, puppet-agent is
installed OK.

Can confirm that the workaround still works (make PC1 the local1 repo).

[Bug 1681150] [NEW] Has anyone noticed zesty linux-image-generic_4.10.0.19.21_amd64 has no initrd.img AND can't see Root=UUID= AND read any partitions?

2017-04-08 Thread robert Newton
Public bug reported:

I'm running Zesty 17.04 linux-image.4.10.0.13
I can log in but compiz has to be --replaced.

Then I update-grub. kernel .14 downloads yesterday
and .19 today. Both don't have a initrd.img-4.10.0-1[49]-generic.

Most would stop here.
In grub.cfg I tried adding a initrd /initrd.img with is linked
to /boot/initrd.img-4.10.0-13-generic to both
linux vmlinuz-4.10.0-14-generic and linux vmlinuz-4.10.0-19-generic

What does it mean when it boots until a kernel panic "can't find root."
This also happens if there is no initrd line (as intended.)

ubuntu-bug linux reports "not a real package. please remove third party packs"
$cat /proc/version_signature |tee version.log

Perhaps the 3.2.0-70 kernel was configured to disallow 16 bit segments?
Reaching.
Odd that this is now affecting 32 bit kernels too, when the original issue was
64-bit only.
