[Bug 2067612] [NEW] Azure: Jammy azure CIFS backport to 5.15-backport-1-24-24 causes regression

2024-05-30 Thread Tim Gardner
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

[Impact]

The backport of git://git.samba.org/sfrench/cifs-2.6.git
5.15-backport-1-24-24 (CIFS) has caused some regressions. See LP:

[Bug 2067490] Re: byobu prompt

2024-05-30 Thread Djerk Geurts
The best way to describe it, is that it's like when you cat a file
without propper formatting and the command output pushes the prompt to
the right. This causes a mismatch between where the cursor is shown and
where it actually is.

Either way, the issue is more with why it's showing an elapsed time for
the last command, which is a change from how the byobu prompts has
worked to date.

[Bug 2067610] [NEW] GNOME Shell qrcode generator may create invalid QR code images

2024-05-30 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

When creating QR Code images for long(er) URIs we may end up creating qr
codes whose size isn't matching the expected one and this may lead to a
wrongly generated texture (and potential memory access errors).

An example: https://i.imgur.com/x3P4dzQ.png

[ Test case ]

In order to test this from GNOME shell, many components have to be set
up that are harder to check so this can be easily simulated using a
simple test program that replicates what the shell does to generate the
image: https://www.pastery.net/uyzeca/

1. Download and run the test script:
   $ wget -O /tmp/shell-qrcode-tester.py https://www.pastery.net/uyzeca/raw
2. Run it with:
   $ python3 /tmp/shell-qrcode-tester.py
3. The qrcode should open in a new window and display correctly as
   https://imgur.com/dddTL6u.png (pointing to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell)

[ Regression potential ]

QrCodes are used only during web authentication that is not something
that is generally exposed to users, but this may potentially lead to
wrong or missing qr codes textures.

[Bug 39136]

2024-05-30 Thread Nika-7
Created attachment 9404704
Bug 196078 - Part 2: Support displaying arbitrary text/* MIME types as plain
text, r=smaug!

This patch refactors how we check for text formats when deciding how to handle
resources, such that more text MIME types will be rendered in-browser, rather
than downloaded.

This change requires us to move more away from using the Gecko-Content-Viewers
category in the category manager for this decision, as we need to handle an
unlimited number of MIME types behind the scenes.

Support for Gecko-Content-Viewers was left in for both the in-tree use for
application/http-index-format and dynamically determining whether image/avif
and image/jxl are supported, as well as for the message/rfc822 type used by
Thunderbird.

Bug 196078 - Part 1: Remove duplicate gXMLTypes check from nsContentDLF,

This was a typo introduced in bug 1209658. Previously the code would be
checking `gXULTypes`. Support for XUL documents has since been removed from
Gecko, so the code is no longer necessary.

Expect that daily logwatch emails properly show clamav update
information.

I believe that this problem started around the time clamav went to
version 1.0.x.

Excerpt from daily logwatch email report...

 - clam-update Begin

 No updates detected in the log for the freshclam daemon (the
 ClamAV update process). If the freshclam daemon is not running,
 you may need to restart it. Other options:

 A. If you no longer wish to run freshclam, deleting the log file
(configured is /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log ) will suppress this error
message.

 B. If you use a different log file, update the appropriate
configuration file.  For example:
   echo "LogFile = log_file" >> /etc/logwatch/conf/logfiles/clam-update.conf
where log_file is the filename of the freshclam log file.

 C. If you are logging using syslog, you need to indicate that your
log file uses the syslog format. For example:
   echo "*OnlyService = freshclam" >>
/etc/logwatch/conf/logfiles/clam-update.conf
   echo "*RemoveHeaders" >> /etc/logwatch/conf/logfiles/clam-update.conf

[Bug 2067501] Re: Ubuntu noble is missing libaio.so.1 compat symlink

2024-05-30 Thread Paride Legovini
Hello and thanks for this bug report. The SONAME bump has been done
deliberately, see this changelog entry (from version 0.3.113-6):

- Perform a SONAME bump to avoid stomping on upstream SONAME. Once and if
  the new symbols are accepted by upstream then we can merge that back
  into libaio.so.1 and drop the t64 packages and temporarily provide
  a compat symlink for the t64 SONAME for a smooth transition back. This
  should also be an easier way to revert this transition when there are
  no file conflicts involved, and does not block on upstream support.

I didn't go into the details of the problem, but I doubt the
compatibility symlink can be added as it would potentially cause the
"stomping on upstream SONAME" that the package maintainer wants to
avoid.

If you still believe this can be done, I suggest filing a bug against
the libaio Debian package:

  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=libaio

as the Ubuntu package is currently a sync from Debian, and this kind of
issue is better fixed upstream (= in Debian) when possible.

I'm marking this as Incomplete for now, but if you agree this won't be
fixed as suggested, please mark this bug as a Wontfix. Thanks!

[Bug 2067490] Re: byobu prompt

2024-05-30 Thread Paride Legovini
Hello and thanks for this bug report. Can you please elaborate on what
you mean with "navigating previous commands"? I briefly tested byobu
6.11-0ubuntu1 and the cursor is always at the end of the prompt, where I
expect it to be. With "arrow up" I can get the previous commands and
nothing looks misaligned, but again I am not sure this is what you mean.

[Bug 2067307] Re: Sound skips when mouse is moved

2024-05-30 Thread Freeman Montgomery
I'm a bit of a novice, and it would have taken a bit more advanced
terminal skills than I have, but I did find out it was using the older
of two (0,31 vs 0,35) lowlatency kernels. I did a reboot, and in
advanced settings switched to the newest kernel, and that seems to have
fixed the issue. Thank you for the suggestion.

[Bug 2052137] Re: bonded link goes down on reconfigure

2024-05-30 Thread Alexander
Hello,

Another bump from me, as it affects our infrastructure quite heavily, as
we are currently in process of transitioning to Jammy realease. And with
more than thousand nodes being redeployed alreday, even small task like
add new route causes unwanted complications.

I don't know if i did everything correct, but PSA patch for canonical
systemd repo for jammy branch, which has been applied in mainstream of
systemd, and has been linked abovr already. I hope it helps to fasten
the  process.

[Bug 2067388] Re: New upstream microreleases 12.19, 14.12, 15.7 and 16.3

2024-05-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package postgresql-16 - 16.3-0ubuntu0.24.04.1

---
postgresql-16 (16.3-0ubuntu0.24.04.1) noble-security; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version (LP: #2067388).

+ A dump/restore is not required for those running 16.X.

+ However, a security vulnerability was found in the system views
  pg_stats_ext and pg_stats_ext_exprs, potentially allowing
  authenticated database users to see data they shouldn't. If this is of
  concern in your installation, follow the steps below to rectify it.

+ Also, if you are upgrading from a version earlier than 16.2, see
  those release notes as well please.

+ Restrict visibility of pg_stats_ext and pg_stats_ext_exprs entries
  to the table owner (Nathan Bossart)

  These views failed to hide statistics for expressions that involve
  columns the accessing user does not have permission to read. View
  columns such as most_common_vals might expose security-relevant
  data. The potential interactions here are not fully clear, so in the
  interest of erring on the side of safety, make rows in these views
  visible only to the owner of the associated table.

  The PostgreSQL Project thanks Lukas Fittl for reporting this
  problem.

  By itself, this fix will only fix the behavior in newly initdb'd
  database clusters. If you wish to apply this change in an existing
  cluster, you will need to do the following:

- In each database of the cluster, run the
  /usr/share/postgresql/16/fix-CVE-2024-4317.sql script as superuser. In
  psql this would look like:

\i /usr/share/postgresql/16/fix-CVE-2024-4317.sql

  It will not hurt to run the script more than once.

- Do not forget to include the template0 and template1 databases,
  or the vulnerability will still exist in databases you create
  later. To fix template0, you'll need to temporarily make it accept
  connections. Do that with:

ALTER DATABASE template0 WITH ALLOW_CONNECTIONS true;

  and then after fixing template0, undo it with:

ALTER DATABASE template0 WITH ALLOW_CONNECTIONS false;

  (CVE-2024-4317)

+ Details about these and many further changes can be found at:
  https://www.postgresql.org/docs/16/release-16-3.html.

  * d/postgresql-16.NEWS: Update.

[Bug 1813171] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in nautilus_files_view_set_selection when working with large directory tree

2024-05-30 Thread Khalid Abu Shawarib
Most likely to be this:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/3036

There's a fix, but it's hard to verify as this bug is very fickle in the
scenario described by this report. There's only one known case where
it's consistently reproducible, which is to open 2 files with nautilus
in the "Open With..." dialog.

2024-05-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package postgresql-14 - 14.12-0ubuntu0.22.04.1

---
postgresql-14 (14.12-0ubuntu0.22.04.1) jammy-security; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version (LP: #2067388).

+ A dump/restore is not required for those running 14.X.

+ However, a security vulnerability was found in the system views
  pg_stats_ext and pg_stats_ext_exprs, potentially allowing
  authenticated database users to see data they shouldn't. If this is of
  concern in your installation, follow the steps below to rectify it.

+ Also, if you are upgrading from a version earlier than 14.11, see
  those release notes as well please.

- In each database of the cluster, run the
  /usr/share/postgresql/14/fix-CVE-2024-4317.sql script as superuser. In
  psql this would look like:

\i /usr/share/postgresql/14/fix-CVE-2024-4317.sql

  It will not hurt to run the script more than once.

- Do not forget to include the template0 and template1 databases,
  or the vulnerability will still exist in databases you create
  later. To fix template0, you'll need to temporarily make it accept
  connections. Do that with:

ALTER DATABASE template0 WITH ALLOW_CONNECTIONS true;

  and then after fixing template0, undo it with:

ALTER DATABASE template0 WITH ALLOW_CONNECTIONS false;

  (CVE-2024-4317)

+ Details about these and many further changes can be found at:
  https://www.postgresql.org/docs/14/release-14-12.html

  * d/postgresql-14.NEWS: Update.

[Bug 2067603] [NEW] systemd-pull missing

2024-05-30 Thread Lennart Jern
Public bug reported:

I am testing systemd-sysupdate on a ubuntu 24.04 server VM. Systemd-
sysupdate tries to call systemd-pull for downloading files (that it will
then use to do updates). However, the binary for systemd-pull is
completely missing as seen in this strace output:

I have 10 backtraces with python3-dbg installed and therefore more
complete backtraces (but I wouldn't call them very readable). I'm going
to attach them here (.tar.xz archive which extracts in the current

[Bug 2065476] Re: During boot, after grub selection screen, it appears "error: sparse file not allowed - Aborted. Press any key to exit."

2024-05-30 Thread vimo
I solved the problem by reinstalling Grub on the same hard disk on which
it was installed before.

grub-install /dev/sdX (where sdX is the hard drive on which grub was installed)
and then
update-grub

[Bug 2066700] Re: systemd-networkd is inactive by default since ubuntu 23.10?

2024-05-30 Thread Pengpeng Sun
Hi Nick,

Thanks for the info! So for Desktop, it's always NetworkManager as Netplan
renderer; and for Server, it's systemd-networkd.
Another question, what if there is no renderer set in Netplan Yaml file, can
Netplan load network configuration correctly?

[Bug 2063094] Re: unattended-upgrades is running forever

2024-05-30 Thread Adrien Nader
I'm seeing very different traces. Sorry. :)

I have processes which appear stuck and which have been using more than
11 weeks of CPU time over the past 132 days. No idea if it was in only
one run (I think I looked at CPU time less than 132 days ago, and even
less than 11 weeks ago, so it probably hasn't been stuck for 11 weeks).
This happens in three LXC containers which run debian stable. It seems I
ran out of space on the containers, but definitely not 11 weeks ago,
maybe two weeks ago at most.

Traces I see:

[Bug 2067120] Re: apport-retrace crashed with subprocess.CalledProcessError in check_call(): Command '['dpkg', '-x', '/srv/vms/apport-retrace/Ubuntu 24.04/apt/var/cache/apt/archives//base-files_13ubun

2024-05-30 Thread Benjamin Drung
I tried to construct a test case locally since I do not have access to
bug #2062390. The failure message was different, but also usrmerge
related. Here is the test case:

```
$ divide-by-zero
$ mkdir -p "$PWD/sandbox-config/Ubuntu 24.04"
$ echo noble > "$PWD/sandbox-config/Ubuntu 24.04/codename"
$ cat > "$PWD/sandbox-config/Ubuntu 24.04/sources.list"
