Yep, it's messed up all right. My patch said: + message = NIH_MUST (nih_strdup (NULL, _(Your disk drives are being checked for errors. [Bug 315907] Re: Addressbar autocomplete flaky
I just recently (in the past few months) started experiencing what appears to be the same issue in maverick on both Firefox 4.0.1 AND 3.6.17, and right-clicking did indeed make it work again- otherwise nothing seemed to. It's very sporadic, but once it does it, it doesn't seem to work again (until a restart?) I generally leave Firefox open, but sometimes close it every day or so to free up memory while I'm doing something else (since I leave a ton of tabs open). This machine was a fresh install of maverick back when it was released, and xorg and whatnot is the default setup. I know this is closed and invalid for FF and marked as fixed for xorg... but just wondering if anybody else is still seeing this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315907 Title: Addressbar autocomplete flaky -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 668129] [NEW] [Realtek ALC892] Audio skips with intensive i/o like copying files
Public bug reported: I've got a practically brand-new AMD Phenom II X4 965 system with a RAID 1 mirror of two SATA-II drives and onboard audio running a clean install of Maverick. When I copy a large folder of pictures or something to another folder on the same array, I get random hiccups in the audio. This computer is quite fast and I imagine the software should be quite mature- so I don't know why I wouldn't be able to listen to music with Rhythmbox while copying files. At most, I also have Chromium and/or Firefox sitting idle in the background doing nothing intensive. Given prior experience, I'm inclined to believe this is a problem with pulseaudio, not alsa, but I don't know how to figure that out, and Ubuntu audio isn't really usable without pulseaudio anymore. (I tried bypassing pulse and just using straight alsa with this machine running Lucid. It was not pretty and ended in me wiping the machine.) [Bug 616028] Re: add an alert alias, which can optionally be added after long running commands
The default .bashrc should also have a comment added stating that the user has to install libnotify-bin, which is not installed by default in Maverick, to get the notify-send binary; otherwise the pop-up notification won't work. Having libnotify-bin in the default install would take care of it too, but notify-send doesn't seem to be looked upon too highly by the folks in charge of notifications in Ubuntu anyway. -- add an alert alias, which can optionally be added after long running commands https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 535417] Re: mdadm monitor feature broken, email notification not set up, nor using beep/wall/notify-send
I've been trying to get something usable at least using notify-send as an external program to trigger, but I'm having trouble getting it to execute on failure, and I got sick of unplugging a hard drive and then waiting for the entire array to rebuild. If I can figure out how to get it working, maybe I could come up with a new default mdadm config file with external program notification. However, that runs into another bug- Ubuntu's default notifier applet ignores the timeout parameter from notify-send, so there's no way to ensure the message stays on the screen for a while without popping up a dialog box with an OK button or something. I like a notification bubble better than a dialog box, but I think obviously the user should have to click that the message was read... which is no longer an option- Ubuntu notification bubbles aren't allowed to have buttons, nor can you specify the amount of time they're displayed for (this regression has been declared as by design). Sooo something other than notify-send will probably be necessary. I just don't know what other options there are. I don't like the local mail option since Ubuntu doesn't normally even have the concept of it. All of my mail is webmail, so I wouldn't want a mail client running just to see if I have a drive failure- doesn't make much sense to me. -- mdadm monitor feature broken, email notification not set up, nor using beep/wall/notify-send https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/535417 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter
Question- according to the notification design guidelines (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotificationDesignGuidelines), those of us who want to use notify-send's timeout option should be using something like a morphing alert box. Would it be possible to spit out one of those instead of a NotifyOSD bubble when notify-send has a timeout specified? Then you wouldn't have to pollute NotifyOSD with the naughty timeout code, but at least notify-send would be able to work properly. I know notify-send just sends a message out over DBUS and I believe there can only be one notification server on the other end, so I'm guessing the answer is it's not technically possible. Could anybody be kind enough to offer up a simple command like notify-send that displays a morphing alert box instead of a notification bubble? -- notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter
Sebastien- where? Somebody tried to create a brainstorm thread for it, and if I'm seeing things correctly, it was shut down and nobody can vote for it. Correct me if I'm wrong- I've never used the brainstorm site. There's nothing wrong with the notify-send documentation. It's doing its job- it has no idea that notify-osd is on the other end, ignoring the timeout parameter. The only documentation change that would make any sense is the addition something that says IF notify-osd is the notification agent (default since Ubuntu x.xx), the timeout parameter is ignored. But why should the documentation for one package have to warn you about deficiencies in another that it might not even be interfacing with? -- notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 390508] Re: notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter
The first sentence of the design spec for notify-osd clearly says it should implement the Desktop Notifications Specification. The first line of the Desktop Notifications Specification says, The following messages MUST be supported by all implementations. There is no ambiguity. notify-osd does not use the expire_timeout parameter of org.freedesktop.Notifications.Notify. expire_timeout INT32 ... If -1, the notification's expiration time is dependent on the notification server's settings, and may vary for the type of notification. If 0, never expire. notify-osd always acts as though expire_timeout is -1. Nothing in the spec says feel free to ignore this in your implementation, or developers beware- implementations are free to ignore this and still be called compliant (i.e. don't expect this to actually work). Clearly, this is a bug (that it's by choice is irrelevant). Apps written to be fully compliant with the Desktop Notifications Specification using the expire_timeout parameter have notifications that do not work correctly on Ubuntu. That is _unacceptable_. -- notify-send ignores the expire timeout parameter https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390508 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
