[Bug 779166] Re: Upgrade to version 11.04, disable the laptop display back light

2011-10-31 Thread nucleuskore
I have an acer Aspire 5732Z with intel GMA 4500M graphics running
Linuxmint 11. The sudo setpci fix as outlined in post #33 works for me
as long as I boot on battery.

If I connect the laptop to a power source and boot I end up with a blank
screen. However I can then get the login screen by hitting Ctrl Alt Del
Works fine after that

I fiddled around and got it to work. In Compizconfig settings manager I
saw two new buttons, move window and resize window. I checked the boxes
near them and the "bug" seems to be fixed !

2010-06-19 Thread nucleuskore
As I understand, I install the kernel and reboot the system, selecting
the correct kernel from grub to boot with.

I have tried

2.6.33.3-lucid: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.33.3-lucid/
2.6.34-rc7-lucid:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-rc7-lucid/
and the rsalveti kernel

none of these make my wireless work on my WPA2 AES encrypted network. I
am sure of my wireless card. It works with ndiswrapper and I have
reported this on http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net and ubuntuforums.org

[Bug 496093] Re: [lucid] rt2860 frequently fails to connect to mixed mode WPA/WPA2 secured wireless networks

2010-05-02 Thread nucleuskore
I have ASUS eeepc 1000H with Network controller: RaLink RT2860. I tried
to get the card to work with my WPA wireless router at home without
success, although it works flawlessly on open networks. As compiling the
driver from the manufacturers website did not work for me,

I decided to try something different. I just did a fresh install, and
installed the package linux-backports-modules-
wireless-2.6.32-21-generic. The card worked great without the need for
any more packages or tweaks. I used the netbook like this for an hour.
Mind you just the regular install + linux-backports-modules-
wireless-2.6.32-21-generic. However when I rebooted the system the card
gives the same trouble as earlier. I am sharing this experience here
with the hope that this might somehow be of help.

[Bug 389115] Re: password needed on computer shutdown

2009-06-30 Thread nucleuskore
Dear Chris Coulson and everybody else
I finally solved my problem. Since "nobody" was not allowing me to shutdown, I
ran

ps -U nobody

and got the following output

 PID TTY TIME CMD
 2570 ?00:00:00 su
 2691 ?00:00:00 sh
 2692 ?00:00:00 monopd

PID 2692 is the monopd server for hosting Monopoly games. I uninstalled
monopd.

Problem solved, case closed.

[Bug 389115] Re: password needed on computer shutdown

2009-06-29 Thread nucleuskore
Hello all
I see the thread starter hasn't given sufficient information.
I am facing the same issue. When I click shutdown like this

http://www.zshare.net/image/62010887419835c5/

I get the following dialog box

http://www.zshare.net/image/62010889e30b0044/

This happens every time, and is not a random event. It was not there
when I started using Ubuntu 9.04. I tried installing Ubuntu 9.04 with
all the software I'm using at the moment on to a VM but I am not able to
reproduce the problem.

My terminal output for the command who

neville tty7 2009-06-30 06:46 (:0)
neville pts/0 2009-06-30 07:05 (:0.0)

and the command users

neville neville

and sometimes

neville neville neville

I did not create any other user.

There is a thread running here too
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7537569

[Bug 258603] Re: ubiquity crashed with InstallStepError in configure_user()

2009-06-20 Thread nucleuskore
Successfully installed Ubuntu 9.04 !

Now let me elaborate. The first problem I was facing is ubiquity
crashing while copying files during install. It told me that my cd or
hard disk was probably bad. I knew my cd was ok as I had verified my
data, as for my drive it's a brand new sony, only two days old.

So I booted Ubuntu live and made a USB start up disk. I then got past
the file copy stage, and ubiquity crashed on creating new user. I
realised that this probably was because of my old /home directory after
reading the above posts. I then proceeded to start the install again
making the /home too for formatting, along with /. Two ntfs partitions
were also mounted on partitioning. Install went through like a breeze.
I'll have to restore my home files form my external hard disk that's
all.
