[Bug 627495] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.35/drivers/md/dm.c:2190!

2010-09-03 Thread nullack
I am adding the regression-potential tag. I have done additional testing
and I can confirm this MD RAID bug as a regression-potential because in
10.04 the issue does not exist. I can see my RAID 5 array no problems,
as well as the non-raid SATA drive also connected through the Intel
ICH10 southbridge.

[Bug 611810] Re: [PATCH] NVIDIA GPU audio-over-HDMI: Patch required to support recent GPUs

2010-09-03 Thread nullack
I'm confirming this bug. It does exist on Maverick. I have Maverick
installed and my test systems has three NVIDIA GTX 480s in trisli. Fermi
chips are totally unsupported in Maverick for the NVIDIA GTX 4XX
generation Fermi cards.

I've also nominated this bug for the Maverick release because Fermi
chips are common discrete graphics cards and it's reasonable to expect
that such common hardware would be supported by Ubuntu.

[Bug 627495] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.35/drivers/md/dm.c:2190!

2010-09-03 Thread nullack
I have removed the NVIDIA Fermi GTX 4XX / Azuntech Home Theatre HD sound
issues from this bug report. Apport pulled that into the one bug
automatically when it went through the bug reporting process. I have
since discovered that an NVIDIA developer has provided details on
resolving the NVIDIA Fermi chip audio problems in Ubuntu in bug 611810.
Therefore I've removed it from here and left the MD RAID taint issue for
this bug report.

** Tags added: regression-potential

** Description changed:

- Im only using the Intel southbridge raid, ICH10, so I'm suprised this is
- being an issue especially given your using a production linux kernel

[Bug 627495] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.35/drivers/md/dm.c:2190!

2010-09-02 Thread nullack
Having a bit more time to go through these logs, I see two problems:

1. The Intel ICH10 southbridge chipset raid. This is the most user
visible problem where EXT4 filesystem problems are reported on each boot
and will most often result in no boot taking place.

2. The Creative XFi Titanium sound card coupled to my tri sli NVIDIA
GTX480s is having problems. Each of my three GTX 480s has an nvidia
audio driver component to it and I dont think the supplied nvidia
graphics driver actually contains the sound drivers to run these
features in them. I have manually installed the properitary NVIDIA
drivers. Result is kernel panics about sound problems.

[Bug 384666] [NEW] Karmic DVD Playback Problems : Pulse RateLimit

2009-06-07 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Since the upstream merge to the latest released gstreamer bad plugin
set, I am trying to test out the fixes in resindvd for the Karmic Koala
DVD playback experience.

During playback audio drops in and out unexpectedly, and I note that CPU
utilisation can hit 100%. In the syslog, I see that pulseaudio is having
problems with DVD playback as per:

Jun 8 11:01:10 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: protocol-native.c: Failed to push data
into queue
Jun 8 11:01:32 PPP last message repeated 4259 times
Jun 8 11:01:34 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: ratelimit.c: 531 events suppressed
Jun 8 11:01:34 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally
Jun 8 11:01:34 PPP last message repeated 10 times
Jun 8 11:01:35 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: protocol-native.c: Failed to push data
into queue
Jun 8 11:01:35 PPP last message repeated 22 times
Jun 8 11:02:00 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: ratelimit.c: 133 events suppressed
Jun 8 11:02:00 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally
Jun 8 11:02:12 PPP last message repeated 15 times
Jun 8 11:02:17 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: ratelimit.c: 697 events suppressed
Jun 8 11:02:17 PPP pulseaudio[10219]: asyncq.c: q overrun, queuing locally
Jun 8 11:02:17 PPP last message repeated 10 times

I note that this type of pulseaudio problem does not occur under other
video playback types, such as playing back MPEG4-ASP in AVI containers
or other multimedia types. The problem appears to be specific to
resindvd based DVD playback.

[Bug 255929] Re: Totem Fails On Multiple Audio and Subtitle Streams

2009-06-04 Thread nullack
Thank you for the fix. Confirmed that audio streams switch as expected -
subtitles take a little longer to switch during the stream but it does
work. This is a great step forward for multimedia on Ubuntu. Would be
great to see the new gstreamer DVD resindvd code brought in as well to
properly fix DVD playback - you've got testers ready to test such
changes.

[Bug 345627] Re: Crackling / scratching noise using Pulseaudio

2009-05-19 Thread nullack
Daniel RE what you said about the problems with the default resample-
method = value on certain hardware, surely there is a possible solution
that the install should query what hardware there is and optimally
default the value to be correct? Whats happening currently is that audio
out of the box is a broken user experience.

Thanks very much to Conn, on my audigy 2 soundcard going from the
default src-linear to speex-float-1 fixed all the crackling problems I
had.

For anyone else with an Audigy 2 card and crackling, the fix is to
gksudo gedit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and edit the resample-method = src-
linear to resample-method = speex-float-1.

[Bug 273558] Re: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid

2009-05-16 Thread nullack
Akos to accurately descripe what X-Plane people say:

1. When I contacted Austin Meyer about this, he declared that I did not know
how busy he is
2. He said he did'nt care if the bug I reported to him existed or not, since
his Linux support guy falsely claimed there was no problem and he didnt want to
spend the time to figure out who was right
3. He said he had far more important things to do than support Ubuntu

I have since received no emails about other bugs I have reported.

By contrast, the open source flight sim project has been a wonderful
partner and has actively engaged on quality issues with running their
app on Ubuntu.

[Bug 311859] Re: Please Upgrade FlightGear

2009-05-16 Thread nullack
While I'm sure we appreciate some sort of binary, its a shame such work
isnt being done in the Ubuntu repos. IMHO, doing it elsewhere only
increases the eventual work someone has to do to get it into the Ubuntu
repos and it introduces management hassles for users with adding 3rd
party repos to their default install for no important reason.

I greatly encourage anyone to consider MOTU membership or to ask for
sponsorship of their work to get it into the official Ubuntu repos.

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback broken in Intrepid because of resindvd

2009-04-08 Thread nullack
Moving back to confirmed as this bug is not fixed. While the bad plugin
changes have improved things, users are still without working DVD
navigation because totem itself has also not been updated for
functionality like going back to the menu, going back to chapters
etcetc. Currently the user has to adopt a bad workaround of stopping
playback all together, closing totem and re-opening totem to re-access
the menu and other dvd navigation items.

[Bug 350657] [NEW] Please Upgrade to Java SE 6u13

2009-03-28 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Currently on Jaunty we have 6u12:

null...@ppp:~$ java -version

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_12-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.2-b01, mixed mode)

Could we please synch to sun's 6u13 before the production release of
Jaunty. I note that this upgrade contains numerous bug fixes:

http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/6u13.html

This is only an update to Java 6, and is widely used software that is
considered well tested before release. The risk of regressions for
updating to 6u13 should be considered to be low.

[Bug 346289] Re: Choppy Flash playback in full screen.

2009-03-28 Thread nullack
The root cause of this problem is that Linux has a broken video
architecture (its being worked on for fixing). Its not really the fault
of compiz, its symptomatic of compiz like functions not the cause.
Fixing it requires video architecture changes and corresponding video
driver changes that have already taken a long time to get this far, and
the work is not completed yet.

This problem and a number of other related issues can be worked around
by disabling compiz. Trying to force run these sorts of functions with
composting on is dangerous.

[Bug 348316] [NEW] Printer (HWModel Name) May Not Be Connected

2009-03-25 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

A number of USB Printers on Jaunty are not printing. They install their
drivers fine and are recognised as being online but yet fail to print.
The print status que has the error message Printer (HWModel Name) May
Not Be Connected and the printing job appears to stall at a processing
status.

So far I have identified the following printer models as being effected:

Samsung ML-2510-Series (this is mine)
HP 940c
HP 930C
hp5550 deskjet

This list is not exhaustive and I do not have an accurate picture of how
many models might be effected.

The user of the hp5550 reported he was able to get his working by
reinstalling all the cups and foomatic packages that are installed by
default. When I tried that for my ML-2510 it did not fix the problem.

Steve Langalsek requested I create a new bug for this, separate to the
info I added to a similarly symptomatic bug, bug #314106.

[Bug 314106] Re: Printer not connected

2009-03-25 Thread nullack
Upon Steve's request, I have created a separate bug, #348316, which is
symptomatically similar but not involving network printing
configurations. All work on USB printing should occur there.

[Bug 3127] Re: Firefox language settings incorrect for Aus NZ users

2009-03-23 Thread nullack
Thanks for looking at this Alexander. Im not sure if this will help as
Ive overwritten the default with my user preference of:

intl.accept_languages;en-au,en-gb,en-us,en

This came about when I manually added the Aus and GB languages. Im not
sure what the default used to be.

Can people please keep in mind that subscribers do not appreciate bug
spam. Once the bug is confirmed, you can report your effected as well by
clicking on this bug effects me too. Unnecessary bug spam in the
comments just reduces the signal to noise ratio of the bug report and
could lead to bug subscribers unsubsribing.

[Bug 347691] [NEW] New Wave Theme Breaks BookMark Tool in FF

2009-03-23 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-themes-ubuntu

The attached screenshot shows how the New Wave theme breaks the bookmark
utility tool. During normal browsing the pull down menus are correctly
white within FF for the New Wave theme when the New Wave firefox theme
or the custom userchrome.css is installed. However when in the bookmark
utility tool, these white pull down menus break usability against the
background colour.

[Bug 314106] Re: Printer not connected

2009-03-22 Thread nullack
Changed to Confirmed and setting release blocker for Jaunty as printing
is a critical task.

Other users on Jaunty besides myself are also experiencing this problem,
refer:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6935889

This is also occuring on Jaunty where On Jaunty. When trying to setup my
samsung laser printer, the device appeared to correctly be identified
and the appropriate driver installed. Users are able to change device
preferences. However when actually trying to print, the job will stall
at processing and the error message (Printer Name) May Not Be Connected
is displayed. No printing will occur.

I have run the apport sudo ubuntu-bug cups to hopefully get releated
info to the devs for fixing.

From the info provided below, its clear that the system knows the device
is on USB.

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback broken in Intrepid because of resindvd

2009-03-22 Thread nullack
Resindvd as found in the bad plugins set is missing important features
of DVD navigation and is not robust. This is why the project is in the
bad plugins set and not the good plugins set.

The intent of the original bug was that DVD's would not play at all but
in the progress of the Intrepid development cycle that particular
problem was fixed.

I am unsure if it is worth having this bug report open for an upstream
project that is known to be incomplete and unstable - in particular
given its not installed by default and also that upstream development
seems to be occurring at a glacial pace.

amano if you look at the release notes for that release you will see
that resindvd changes are not mentioned.

[Bug 344692] [NEW] NewWave Theme Does Not Correctly Configure FireFox

2009-03-18 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Its great to see some community themes get added to the default Jaunty
build.

When using the NewWave theme, the packaging of it is incorrect. In
FireFox, the pulldown menus are the incorrect colour because the theme
is not installing the correct custom .css. A user has to manually add
it. Perhaps a better way to do this would be to package the NewWave css
file into a FireFox theme plugin file and add that to the NewWave theme
package.

The css file and details are on the wiki:

Its also still occuring in Jaunty since the original bug was reported in
2005 :)

Anyway this occuring for Australia as well. For Australia a user has to
manually add the en-au, make it first preference, then add en-gb and
make it the second preference. This is despite the system knowing I have
an Australian configuration.

Yes mate I saw your post and originally felt it might be related to your
somewhat custom setup. However since going through the details of my
more standard install, and some debugging here:

My conclusion is youve got the same problem and its a problem inherent
to the plugin itself.

[Bug 342157] [NEW] Alpha 6 Live AMD64 Install Failure - HwDetect Failed Code 141

2009-03-13 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Trying to install a clean Alpha 6 AMD64 live build onto my system,
Ubiquity appeared to crash and then I was exited to GDM with an
automatic login timer counting down. Then I was re-logged in with no
explanation as to what was going on.

Digging further I noticed this in my syslog:

[Bug 340303] Re: FFE: ffmpeg 0.5

2009-03-12 Thread nullack
Sindhudweep there is no AVC decoder that will decode all AVC file types.
The profiles are simply too broad and the levels too many within the
standard for all AVC streams to play with the one decoder. Just like
how no one AVC encoder will encode for all profiles and levels. For the
ffmpeg decoder I have not found any avc content that does not play that
is supposed to be supported by ffmpeg.

[Bug 339065] [NEW] Please Upgrade to NVIDIA 180.37

2009-03-06 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-180

Please upgrade to NVIDIA 180.37. Despite this being a pre-release it
fixes a number of KDE issues as well as VDPAU problems and is
functionally superior to the 180.35 revision. Thanks

Release Highlights:

* Fixed a problem that caused signals to be blocked in some applications.
* Fixed a problem that could cause Xid errors and display corruption in certain
cases when OpenGL is used to render to redirected windows, for example when
Java2D is used with the -Dsun.java2d.opengl=true option.
* glGetStringi(GL_EXTENSIONS, i) no longer returns NULL in OpenGL 3.0 preview
contexts.
* Fixed a problem that caused the screen to flicker momentarily when OpenGL
applications exit unexpectedly on GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs.
* Fixed an X server crash when an X client attempts to draw trapezoids and
RenderAccel is disabled.
* Improved recovery from certain types of errors.
* VDPAU updates:
o Fixed corruption on some H.264 clips.
o Update documentation.
o Fixed VC-1 decoding on 64-bit platforms.
o Improved handling of invalid H.264 streams.
o Fixed a problem that caused surfaces to be marked as visible too early when
the blit presentation queue is in use.

[Bug 318689] Re: gnome-system-log attempts to open bogus/inexistent logfiles

2009-03-04 Thread nullack
Sebastien I'm confused - the bug is in a triaged status yet the janitor
thinks this is fixed? It is *not* fixed, the behaviour is still occuring
for me on:

null...@ppp:~$ sudo apt-cache policy gnome-utils
gnome-utils:
  Installed: 2.25.92-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.25.92-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.25.92-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Also why was this declined as a release target for Jaunty? Considering
this report was raised on 19/1 why is it so difficult to resolve before
the production release of Jaunty? Its things like this that are
immediately apparent as broken things in the Ubuntu desktop that
detracts from a users perception of apparent quality.

[Bug 334205] [NEW] Please Upgrade to NVIDIA Stable 180.35

2009-02-24 Thread nullack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-180

NVIDIA have released a new stable driver 180.35. Most importantly this
provides VC1 and WMV acceleration for all VDPAU supported GPUs.

Release Highlights:

* Added support for the following GPUs:
  o GeForce GT 120
  o GeForce G100
  o Quadro FX 3700M
* Fixed a bug that caused Maya to freeze when overlays are enabled.
* Fixed an interaction problem with some applications that use memory
tracking libraries.
* Added support for RG renderbuffers in OpenGL 3.0.
* Added support for OpenGL 3.0 floating-point depth buffers.
* Fixed a problem that caused Valgrind to crash when tracing a program that
uses OpenGL.
* VDPAU updates:
o VDPAU now supports VC-1/WMV acceleration on all GPUs supported by
VDPAU; see the README for details.
o Expand the documentation of VDPAU's VdpVideoMixer, in particular
regarding how to use the deinterlacing algorithms. Explicitly document half
rate deinterlacing, which should allow the advanced algorithms to run on more
low-end systems. See vdpau.h.
o Implement a skip chroma deinterlace option in VDPAU, which should
allow the advanced deinterlacing algorithms to run on more low-end systems. See
vdpau.h.
o Enhance VDPAU to correctly handle some forms of corrupt/invalid
MPEG streams on some GPUs.
o Fix VDPAU to prevent some cases of display preemption in the face
of missing H.264 reference frames on some GPUs.
o Fix VDPAU to correctly handle VC-1 skipped pictures with missing
start codes on some GPUs.
o Fix VDPAU to correctly handle WMV range reduction on some GPUs. A
minor backwards-compatible API change was made for this; see vdpau.h's
documentation for structure field VdpPictureInfoVC1.rangered.
o Fix VDPAU wrapper library to print dlerror() messages when problems
occur, which will simplify debugging of driver loading issues

[Bug 328921] [NEW] PolicyKit Implicit and Explicit Authorisations Not Being Applied

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: policykit-gnome

A critical bug exists in Jaunty, tested today 13/02/09, where any
implicit or explicit authorisations are not being applied. I am
attempting to add either an explicit or implicit auth for the ability to
modify system connections under network-manager-settings then system,
where in both cases clicking on grant for explicit and modify for
implicit results in nothing happening.
