[Bug 1785536] [NEW] Dual boot Ubuntu Windows not Starting after Shut down
Public bug reported: Hi, I have a DELL Inspiron 15 7000 series 7548. I have always used a dual boot system with Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows Os. It works perfectly fine except for the last few weeks when I started to encounter a following weird issue: So, whenever I SHUT DOWN my laptop it struggles to start back on again. I can see the power light on, charging light on (if plugged) and can also hear the fan running but it does not show any boot options or does not respond to function keys, nothing. I even tried removing the battery for few minutes, removed the plug to discharge any static current just for the sake of it, but it still wont boot up. However, after a few random attempts to POWER ON (usually takes hours) it boots back up normally and functions properly. The laptop restarts properly, displays all the boot options and works perfectly normal otherwise. The problem is just when you SHUT DOWN and try to power it back ON As of now my Laptop is working fine, but I don't want to fall back in that weird scenario when I have to shut it down or the battery runs out of power. I have attached a boot info file generated from a boot repair software app for ubuntu. Need assistance as soon as possible. Thanks ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: dualboot-problem ** Attachment added: "Boot Info generated from boot repair software" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785536/+attachment/5171924/+files/boot_info.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785536 Title: Dual boot Ubuntu Windows not Starting after Shut down To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/1785536/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1751005] Re: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME
I was running into the same issue after the latest upgrade of 17.10 and libreoffice, and I tried a couple of things that have both failed. I have my libreoffice files sitting on FAT filesystem that I mount in fstab. Earlier I was mounting it at /data which I changed to /mnt/data. Yet I am unable to open my files (now under /mnt/data) in libreoffice. I also tried another trick of soft linking my Documents folder under /mnt/data to ~/Documents, and when I navigate via ~/Documents to open a file in libreoffice it gives the same access denied problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751005 Title: libreoffice cannot open a document not within $HOME To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1751005/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1489855] Re: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions
There is a workaround for avoiding this bug when creating such pen- drives. You should create three partitions : 1) A fat32 formatted 350MB for storing 'boot' and 'EFI' folders, 2) An ext4 formatted 2GB for storing the rest of Ubuntu's ISO content & 3) An ext4 formatted and labelled as 'casper-rw' in whatever size remains available for persistence. Finally enter 'set root=(hd0,2)' (without single quotes) in grub.cfg and the drive starts working as per your wishes. One could do the same even with two partitions, provided they were ready to use the ISO file itself instead of its extracted content. I've described all this in my blog post linked below. Remember, this is a layman's perspective, and written by gathering information through a trial and error approach, so kindly don't expect any technical explanations for whatever I've been able to list down there... http://proaudience.com/2017/09/creating-ubuntu-pen-drives-with- persistence/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489855 Title: Change to mount sequence order breaks persistence on casper-rw partitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1489855/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 992379] [NEW] Installer crashed. Created separate /boot partition, could not install, fatal error occured
Public bug reported: I created separate parition /boot, /, /home. While trying to install ubutnu 12.04 LTS, the installer crashed, (even though I can see a message in background, installation finished, continue testing or restart.) Apparently, the bootloader cannot be installed in /boot partition(250MiB). Tried to install on Windows 7 bootloader, Windows 8 Bootloader, /dev/sda, /(root), but nothing worked. The other operations available were continue without installing bootloader, or cancel the installation. I chose to cancel and will try to install this time with deleteing /boot partition. [Bug 555595] Re: Intel graphics performance regression in 2.6.32-19 lucid kernel update (was: Firefox Slows Down Compiz)
Hello, I wonder if this is related to what I have seen on my Dell Vostro laptop with Intel GM965 graphics card. Since kernel 2.6.32-19, whenever I startup my laptop, Xorg is stuck on 50% of cpu regardless of what I am doing, I have also seen this on kernel versions -20 and -21. I have tried restarting gdm but this does not cure the problem. This wasn't a problem on the pre -19 kernels. Funny thing is, I have another Dell laptop (latitude D630) with a similar Intel GM965 graphics card and that is not affected by this problem at all. Let me know if you need further information about my installation. [Bug 187446] Re: package sun-java5-bin 1.5.0-14-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
I have accepted the license in the beginning of the sun-java package installation process itself. The installation process continued smoothly. After some time , it reached to sun-java-doc package and instructed to download the relevant doc package i.e. sun-java-doc5 from its website as the package does not have the actual document in it. When I choose no ( because the package is big >165 MB and during night hours only my ISP would give me free download time) , it returned the errors , system application installation crash etc...
