[Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

2020-10-08 Thread peterfrank
Another update: I've installed the Cinnamon desktop within Ubuntu 20.04
and used it for several days. Again the problem never appears, like in
KDE. Only GNOME has this problem, at least on my laptop.

The problem never appears when I install and use KDE plasma desktop
within the same OS, even though the underlying hardware and drivers are
unchanged. So the problem seems specific to GNOME.

[Bug 402892] Re: Mouse cursor gets stuck in "drag and drop" mode

2020-10-02 Thread peterfrank
I confirm that Paul Müller's workaround works for me on Ubuntu 20.04. I
need to read off the touchscreen ID from the output of "xinput". After
that, I disable the touchscreen, and enable it again after I swipe
gently on the screen. This usually makes the problem go away, without
leaving the touchscreen disabled.

[Bug 1873026] Re: File manager grabs favorites folders on left

2020-09-23 Thread peterfrank
I have the same problem in Ubuntu 20.04, and also 19.10 before
upgrading. The problem occurs sporadically. I can confirm that the
problem disappears after reboot, or if I just log out and log in again.
When the problem occurs, it also triggers weird mouse behavior in a few
other applications such as Zoom, so it seems to affect more than
Nautilus bookmarks.

[Bug 363088] Re: Smart Pinyin input method is missing

2009-04-26 Thread peterfrank
I can confirm this bug. After I upgrading to Jaunty from Intrepid, Smart Pinyin
disappeared from the SCIM menu. Also the Smart Pinyin module has disappeared
IM Engine-Global Setup. Removing (purge) and reinstalling scim-pinyin does
not help.
However I have found a simple workaround:
cd ~; rm -r .scim
then logout and login again.

Obviously the configuration in the home directory was messed up. But I
have never tweaked the configuration files myself (other than using the
SCIM setup GUI). So I think the Jaunty upgrade process messed up SCIM,
although I have no idea why it would happen.

On the Chinese Ubuntu Forum I've also seen a report of Smart Pinyin missing in
SCIM, after upgrade KUBUNTU to Jaunty (The link is in Chinese):
http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/viewtopic.php?f=38t=182934
So I am pretty sure there is something wrong with the upgrade process.

However OpenOffice is unusable when gtk-qt-engine is turned on. The

think maybe OO.o renders through GTK.

OK, I don't care whether OO.o is or is not a GTK app. All I know is that
I have to turn off gtk-qt-sytle in order for it to display properly, so
I think it is a bug. (I'm using amd64 intrepid).

[Bug 270111] [NEW] Glxgears mess up the display in Intrepid when Compiz is on

2008-09-14 Thread peterfrank
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mesa-utils

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid Alpha 5 amd64 version. My graphics card is ATI
Mobility Radeon X2300. Glxgears, or any other opengl software such as
the game Kubrick in KDE4, will mess up the display in Gnome. Even after
refreshing the desktop, the Gnome panel and menus cannot be displayed
properly, with strange-looking borders. Only after disabling visual
effects, the display returned normal.

The same problem is present in KDE 4.1.1. Since KDE4 has built-in
compositing, there is no escape like above.

I've attached 3 screen-shots, showing what my desktop looks like before
I open glxgears, when glxgears is running, and after I've closed
glxgears and moved the terminal window around.

More information: Due to another bug:

[Bug 270137] [NEW] Holes disappear in Kolf during game

2008-09-14 Thread peterfrank
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdegames

In Ubuntu Hardy/Intrepid, the KDE4 game Kolf shows a weird behavior. If
you the ball goes outside the boundary of the game region, the target
hole will mysteriously disappear. Therefore it becomes impossible for
you to finish the round.

To reproduce the bug, open kolf, choose 'new game'. Remove the 2nd
player. Choose 'Impossible Course', and click OK. Click 'Next hole'
twice to go directly to the third hole. Strike the ball hard to the
left, so the ball goes outside the visible region. Then suddenly the
hole inside the fence will disappear.

I'm using ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 with its proprietary fglrx driver.
However, I reproduced the same bug in VirtualBox with the OpenSuSE KDE
4.1 livecd by following the above steps. So I think it's likely to be an
upstream bug, other than a problem with the Ubuntu package or my video
driver. The old KDE3 version of the game doesn't seem to have this
problem.

In the KDE4 version of the game Kolf, when the ball hits a wall, it is

By the way, during the install, I found some mysterious error messages

them is:

SQUASHFS error: Can't find a SQUASHFS superblock on sda5

This is Absurd because sda4 is NOT where I want Intrepid to be
