[Bug 1861459] Re: fullsreen video behaves strangely when on fractional scaling and removing keyboard dock of 2in1 Toshiba z20

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1862081 ***

Thanks for commenting, Daniel!

You may be right - the strange thing for me was the effect of the
keyboard-dock separation - as if this were related to some power-saving
settings (as there is a second battery in the keyboard dock)...

But atm this can be closed. Thank you!

Same here: Toshiba Portege z20t C

Interestingly, the touchpad works but the keyboard doesnt. I have to
detach and reattach it to make it work.

[Bug 1862081] Re: Gnome resizes framebuffer when playing fullscreen video over and over again (when using X11 fractional scaling)

2020-02-25 Thread pheidrias
Okay...so there is hope to get this at least "bypassed" for 20.04 - this
would be awesome!

btw: before this became a regular problem (don't ask me when - but I
didn't have this problem some 2-3 month before), I had this effect when
I detached my keyboard from my 2-in-1 Toshiba z20t-c. Interestingly, the
keyboard should only add a second battery to the computer (and the
keyboard + trackpad). I don't understand, why this triggered this
strange fullscreen-video-behaviour -> I wouldn't attribute it to some
energy-management, as the problem persisted when attaching the power
cable directly to the PC...

[Bug 1862081] Re: Gnome resizes framebuffer when playing fullscreen video over and over again (when using X11 fractional scaling)

2020-02-24 Thread pheidrias
Hello Daniel,

I'd love to use Wayland - but the graphics are worse. Even in unscaled
mode, there is horrible text-rendering and when scaling, some apps go
blurry (I know, that this can be handled for e.g. firefox - but there are
other apps, which aren't "fixed")...

Would it be a workaround to have a one-pixel-sized (maybe even transparent?)
always-on-top app without window decorations etc., which you would place
somewhere "out-of-sight", like a corner?
Is something like this maybe already available?

2020-02-21 Thread pheidrias
I'd like to add that the problem doesn't occur, when there is another
(pinned) window in the foreground! E.g., open a terminal and make it to
stay "on top" and the video plays fine in fullscreen mode (behind the
terminal).

[Bug 1861459] [NEW] fullsreen video behaves strangely when on fractional scaling and removing keyboard dock of 2in1 Toshiba z20

2020-01-30 Thread pheidrias
Public bug reported:

problem occurs only when these four things come together:

1.) X11 session
2.) fractional scaling enabled and non-integer value selected (e.g. 125%)
3.) playing video in full screen mode (doesn't matter which player - firefox
and the gnome-video-player tested)
4.) removing the keyboard dock from the main unit

Video plays fine until the fourth condition is met. Then it starts
repositioning and resizing every half second like crazy...

This happens on Ubuntu 19.10 and 20.04 fresh installs, no proprietary
graphics drivers.

Hardware is a Toshiba z20t-c, with Intel graphics.

Cannot add profile, too. Interestingly, I was able to add a profile on my other
PC some time before, when using Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 beta version!
So the bug may have come into game between beta and todays Ubuntu GNOME !

I do get

When I try to connect to a manually setup VPN, it gives it a try, but

[Bug 1177318] [NEW] Unattended Upgrades fail to parse ${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-security

2013-05-07 Thread pheidrias
Public bug reported:

Beginning with Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, unattended-upgrades seems
not to be able to parse /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades
anymore. The logfile tells:

cat /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log
2013-05-06 14:57:05,724 INFO Pakete, die anfangs auf die schwarzen Liste
standen:
2013-05-06 14:57:05,724 INFO Skript für unbeaufsichtigte Upgrades wird
gestartet.
2013-05-06 14:57:05,725 INFO erlaubte Ursprünge sind:
['o=Ubuntu,a=raring-security', 'o=Ubuntu,a=raring-updates']
2013-05-06 14:57:09,114 INFO Es wurden keine Pakete gefunden, von denen ein
unbeaufsichtigtes Upgrade durchgeführt werden kann.
2013-05-07 11:33:04,944 INFO Pakete, die anfangs auf die schwarzen Liste

unbeaufsichtigtes Upgrade durchgeführt werden kann.

which means two times, that allowed sources are ['o=Ubuntu,a=raring-
security', 'o=Ubuntu,a=raring-updates'].

I do suspect it is because of the automatic distribution setting in
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades or the setting of the
corresponding variables:

${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-updates

When this line is set manually to Ubuntu:raring-updates, it will work.

System: Ubuntu Gnome 13.04, all up-to-date

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.04

$ cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10periodic

I'm not sure, which packages are responsible for the error. It worked
fine before. I can not connect manually via vpnc, which however hasn't
worked before, neither.

[Bug 996507] Re: ampache installer doesn't create apache2 configuration

2012-05-09 Thread pheidrias
Where could I find the install log?

I tried answering the debconf-questions all ways and combinations:
lighttpd AND/OR apache2, restart yes OR no

I've never seen /etc/apache2/sites-available/AmpacheApache and ampvhadd
was not created.

However, if I take the DEB (all) of the latest 3.5-release, the ampvhadd
is created! I had to symlink it manually to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled
to get in working (having had to modify it, too, du to some access
forbidden errors with the original ampvhadd file).

If you provide me with instructions on how to create a better report for
you, I can run the new installer again!

[Bug 996507] [NEW] ampache installer doesn't create apache2 configuration

2012-05-08 Thread pheidrias
Public bug reported:

When installing ampache 3.6~alpha1-0ubuntu6 on a Ubuntu 12.04 server,
the installer asks wether to create the lighttpd and ampache configs,
but fails to create the ampache configuration file.

The subsequent error message is:
Something weird has happened, unable to create ampache vhost.
which is surely because there ist no such file in /et/ampache to be symlinked!

Expected: Create apache2-config file in /etc/ampache and symlink it to
/etc/apache2/conf.d/

Happened: No config was created in /etc/ampache

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04
