[Bug 2069828] [NEW] Revert removal of yes /usr/local/sbin/unminimize call in server builds
Public bug reported: There was a change made by me in https://code.launchpad.net/~philroche/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd- rootfs/+merge/466388 as part of LP: #2066905 to remove references to LXD in the unminimize scripts but I also removed the calls to `unminimize` in error. This still needs to run but without any references to LXD which no longer needs to be `unminimized` via snap installation. [ Impact ] The server images no longer have a non minimized layer as it is never unminimized. [ Test Plan ] * Successfully build server daily image and ensure that the multiple layers are present. [ Where problems could occur ] * If the server image does not build, if LXD snap continues to be installed or if the unminimized layer is not as expected. ** Affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: livecd-rootfs (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069828 Title: Revert removal of yes /usr/local/sbin/unminimize call in server builds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/livecd-rootfs/+bug/2069828/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2066905] Re: LXD snap no longer seeded in any images so does not need special handling in unminimize logic
Adding `block-proposed-noble` tag as the changes in https://code.launchpad.net/~philroche/livecd-rootfs/+git/livecd- rootfs/+merge/466388 actually remove all of unminimize calls - not just the lxd specific changes. [Bug 2066905] Re: LXD snap no longer seeded in any images so does not need special handling in unminimize logic
I have created a test noble minimal cloud image with the -proposed livecd-rootfs 24.04.71 and also successfully confirmed that `unminimize` no longer attempts to install the LXD snap. [Bug 2045560] Re: TCP memory leak, slow network (arm64)
@nklya The 6.5 and 6.8 based jammy kernels have received this patch as well. The 6.2 based jammy kernel is no longer supported so it will not be receiving these patches. The way that the jammy 6.5/6.8 kernels work are, they are backports of the newer series kernels. So, for noble (24.04) for example, the noble 6.8 kernel has been back ported to jammy and is the jammy 6.8 based kernel. So, when changes go in to the noble 6.8 kernel, they automatically make it into the jammy 6.8 kernel. So this was targeted to noble and mantic, with the understanding that the changes would end up in the jammy 6.8 and 6.5 based kernel backports. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2045560 Title: TCP memory leak, slow network (arm64) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2045560/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2045560] Re: TCP memory leak, slow network (arm64)
I've looked at this issue in some detail now. The initial memory leak was introduced in linux kernel version v6.0, and the fix was introduced in the v6.9 kernel version. This means that the 6.5, and 6.8 based ubuntu kernels will contain this memory leak. I will submit a fix for the generic 6.8, and generic 6.5 kernels so all ubuntu kernels will receive the fix. [Bug 2064580] [NEW] Please update the package to 20240320.00
Public bug reported: Following on from previous similar package update requests @ LP: #2020762, LP: #1996735, LP: #1938553 and LP: #1911689 this bug is a request to update the google-osconfig-agent to the upstream version `20240320.00` @ https://github.com/GoogleCloudPlatform/osconfig/releases/tag/20240320.00 This package has an SRU exception @ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#google-osconfig-agent including an ageing exception detailed @ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/google- osconfig-agent-Updates There is some urgency in landing these changes to accommodate planned infrastructure changes on the Google Compute Platform. [Impact] This package is provided by Google for installation within guests that run on Google Compute Engine. It is part of a collection of tools and daemons, that ensure that the Ubuntu images published to GCE run properly on their platform. Cloud platforms evolve at a rate that can't be handled in six-month increments, and they will often develop features that they would like to be available to customers who don't want to upgrade from earlier Ubuntu releases. As such, updating this package to more recent upstream releases is required within all Ubuntu releases, so they continue to function properly in their environment. [Test Case] When a new version of this package is uploaded to -proposed, the following will be done: * an image based on -proposed will be built for GCE and published to the ubuntu-os-cloud-devel project * the GCE team will be asked to validate that the new package addresses the issues it is expected to address, and that the image passes their internal image validation. If all the testing indicates that the image containing the new package is acceptable, verification will be considered to be done. [Other Information] This bug is used for tracking of releasing the new upstream version for all supported series, as per the approved policy mentioned in the following MRE: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/google-osconfig-agent-Updates The updated package is not built for armhf and riscv64 due to upstream regressions but the package is not used on those architectures thus please release the SRU without the armhf and risc64 binaries. The package does not build for powerpc on Xenial, but this is OK since it is not used on powerpc either. ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Mantic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: google-osconfig-agent (Ubuntu Mantic) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2064580 Title: Please update the package to 20240320.00 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/google-osconfig-agent/+bug/2064580/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2064280] [NEW] Hyperv desktop images no longer building in Noble
Public bug reported: We have not built Hyperv desktop images since Jammy and with the re- introduction of HyperV for Noble we have encountered build issues caused by refactoring and removals of code assumed to be redundant but the HyperV desktop images were actually using these code paths. In bbedffe6 we split the building of cloud images and non cloud to using an ddisk-image-uefi.binary and disk-image-uefi-non-cloud.binary respectively. In e38264ca there was a change which meant that any attempt to build hyperv images would result in incorrect disk size and incorrect disk label. A change in 76d79466 changed the logic of how the image size for amd64 images were being set. This overrode the sizes set for the desktop images incorrectly. A change in 8fb21808 also removed many of the dependencies that the hyperv images require. This removal has been restored in this commit by adding them expliciltly in the hyperv hook. With Ubutnu 24.04+ cloud-init was introduced to desktop images. This is not required for HyperV images and can be disabled. This bug is to track the work to restore functioning Hyperv desktop image builds [ Impact ] Unable to build HyperV Desktop image. [ Test Plan ] * Successfully build image * Launch through Windows HyperV manager successfully without any errors or warning. [ Where problems could occur ] * If the image built does not launch in hyperv manager or has errors or warnings. [Bug 2061118] Re: Rendering issues in virtual machines (GTK ngl backend)
I was able to get something working on my win 11 i9-13900H discrete RTX2000 laptop. I used: mks.enable3d = "TRUE" mks.enableDX12Renderer = "TRUE" mks.enableDX11Renderer = "FALSE" mks.dx12.vendorID = "0x17AA" and I also had to do: settings->system->dislay->graphics entries for both vmware.exe and vmware-vmx.exe (its in a subdirectory) Both entries specify that vmware must run only on RTX2000 and not the cpu GPU. [Bug 2063482] [NEW] mpv should be configured with hwdec=yes or hwdec=auto-safe rather than hwdec=vaapi
Public bug reported: (mpv dev here) mpv has long recommended that users who want hardware decoding start by using `hwdec=auto-safe`. This goes through a set of hwdecs that we consider to be safe, and it will keep trying if the first one doesn't work. So we recommend that Ubuntu uses `hwdec=auto-safe` or `hwdec=yes` (both do the same thing now) in the config file vs `hwdec=vaapi`. This will produce better results on nvidia hardware and also enable the fallback logic which will generally increase the chances of successfully enabling hardware decoding. ** Affects: mpv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063482 Title: mpv should be configured with hwdec=yes or hwdec=auto-safe rather than hwdec=vaapi To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mpv/+bug/2063482/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2063442] [NEW] needrestart on Ubuntu 24.04 is restarting google-guest-agent startup and shutdown scrips on reinstall but they should not be restarted
Public bug reported: The recent change in Ubuntu 24.04 and needrestart which results in services being restarted automatically , details @ https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/noble-numbat-release- notes/39890#services-restart-on-unattended-upgrade-26, has resulted in unexpected behaviour on Google GCE ubuntu 24.04 images where if the google-guest-agent package is reinstalled then needrestart will restart the `google-startup-scripts.service` and `google-shutdown- scripts.service` but these should only be run during the lifetime of the instance and should not be restarted. [Bug 2052789] Re: AppArmor profiles missing in kernel 5.15.0-1051+ release
Test plan updated for Jammy too ** Description changed: After the kernel roll to linux-gcp-5.15 to version 5.15.0-1051.59_20.04.1 the public cloud team pre publication test were failing on our snap_preseed_optimized test which checks to ensure that snaps are preseeded correctly This test checks the output of `snap debug seeding` to assert `seed- completion` is present and not empty. `` ❯ snap debug seeding seeded:true preseeded: true image-preseeding: 39.367s seed-completion: 1.335s ``` If `/var/lib/snapd/seed/seed.yaml` exists it also asserts that `preseeded` is present and not empty. With the recent kernel update this test is failing which indicates a kernel feature mismatch between the running kernel and the feature set hard-coded in livecd-rootfs for this image. Boot will be slowed by ~200ms until this is resolved in livecd-rootfs. This solution is to add a 5.15 apparmor configuration to the focal branch of livecd-rootfs The issue is also present with the recent 5.15 kernels in Jammy. Related bugs LP: #2031943 and LP: #2045384 [ Impact ] Boot will be slowed by ~200ms until this is resolved in livecd-rootfs [ Test Plan ] - * build any focal cloud image with HWE 5.15 kernel + * for focal build any cloud image with preseeded snaps with HWE 5.15 kernel + * for jammy build any cloud image with preseeded snaps with up to date 5.15 kernel * boot * run `snap debug preseed` * assert the test described above passes [ Where problems could occur ] * Similar patches already exist for later releases 6.2, 6.5 kernel etc. and have been used on other private customer kernels and all kernels released after 22.04, so there is already a good track record for this patchset and it shouldn't create any issues. [Bug 2056671] [NEW] Gnome Shell Screencast does not capture mouse pointer
Public bug reported: Press the Print Screen button, select the Record Screen option and then press capture [1]. The screen recording works as expected however does not display the mouse cursor making it hard to use the screen capture for a tutorial without using a third-party capture device. [Bug 2056475] [NEW] aws: Backport latest ENA driver in upstream Linux to enable IRQ moderation
Public bug reported: SRU Justification: [Impact] In Ubuntu AMIs for x86 and Graviton based EC2 instances, the standard Ubuntu AMI comes without IRQ moderation enabled for ENA, which for our latest generation instances with networking heavy workloads is up to a 25% performance regression (i.e. NGINX in a load-balancing configuration). [Fix] The mainline Linux kernel will now support IRQ moderation by default for ENA in the 6.9 kernel release via this patch: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/netdev/net-next.git/commit/drivers/net/ethernet/amazon/ena?id=50d7a2660579889fba28b7e4543d4ce85aa2311b [Test Plan] AWS tested [Where problems could occur] By enabling adaptive coalescing, the default interrupt behaviour will by changed to be more adaptive, which shows improvements on heavy network workloads, but my change the behaviour and performance on other network workloads differently. Rather than handling the interrupts based off of a fixed amount of time elapsed, it will change to an adaptive based approach. There should be no negative impact on light workloads, and a positive impact on heavy work loads. If there is an impact though, this option can be disabled via the ethtool command.
