[Bug 1306991] Re: pip stops with ImportError for request-Modul

2015-03-10 Thread piccobello
Same issue in (K)ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (using python 2.7)
In my case an old requests version 1.2.3 was sitting in my user folder,
so the following solved the issue for me:

rm -rf ~/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/requests-1.2.3.egg-info
~/.local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/requests

Thanks Muelli, however I do *not* recomment the find approach: im my
case it matched files from other packages as well

[Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2014-01-30 Thread piccobello
My experience in a nutshell (using Kubuntu):
- I have an old machine with a GeForce FX 5200, which was working great with
natty and the proprietary nvidia-173 driver, manually installed
- I don't care about 3D and effects, but watching movies with nouveau I had
some annoying flickering horizontal lines
- after upgrading to precise I restored nouveau as the proprietary driver
compalined about a missing file in /lib
- installing nvidia-173 (173.14.39-0ubuntu0.0.1) using Applications - System
- Additional Drivers (Jockey) solved the issue for me.

In short, you can use GeForce FX 5200 with nvidia-173 in Kubuntu Precise

Thanks to all that contributed!

[Bug 774999] Re: [i865G] Upgrade should warn user about lack of support for old 8xx intel hardware

2012-04-21 Thread piccobello
I have an old machine with this intel graphics card:
 $ lspci -v|grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
I am using Kubuntu natty since a while now, and I never had a problem
whatsoever.
I only learned about this bug as I got the scary warning while trying to
upgrade to oneiric.
Should I be worried? Is there something useful I can do?
I have arrived to natty via an upgrade, and I always kept all desktop effects
deactivated, I guess that may be why I never had any issues.

[Bug 760131] Re: Power consumption raised significantly in natty

2011-11-04 Thread piccobello
After some more extensive testing I cannot confirm the regression anymore on my
Panasonic CF-T5:
forcing pcie_aspm and manually setting powersave:

echo powersave /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy

solves the problem for me as well.
From /proc/cpuinfo:
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 14
model name : Genuine Intel(R) CPU U1400 @ 1.20GHz

I made a script for pm-powersave, attached as pcie_aspm, and put it in
/etc/pm/power.d

I made a table to summarize the results of the tests, reporting powertop
results on 4 hours
Wakeups/s (lower=better), C3% (perc. of time in higest C state, higher=better),
PLow% (perc. of time
at lowest CPU freq, higher=better), battery duration (hh:mm, based on
battery-stats log), avg temperatures
of the two available sensors (estimate based on collectd graphs). All tests
were run with screen brightness
10/21, dpms on (switching off the screen after 10min), wifi off (in normal
conditions the battery lasts less then
half the times obtained in the tests, but it's still pretty good).

Kernel | Wakeups/s | C3% | PLow% | Power | Battery | Temp0 C |
Temp1 C |
2.6.35-28.50 +aspm 50.7 93.6 77.0 5.8W 15:15
 38 39
2.6.38-11.50 +aspm 53.7 94.4 81.8 4.0W 16:23
 37 38
2.6.38-12.51 +aspm a 47.2 94.1 84.6 8.7W 8:57
 38 42
2.6.38-12.51 +aspm b 46.1 93.2 70.24.8W 14:52
38 39

The thing I realized running the tests is that acpi estimate of battery state
(and power) is not so reliable,
therefore I had very different results with when starting the tests as soon as
the charge was 100%, and
when it was left powered for a few hours while at 100%. That was the only
difference among the two runs
with 2.6.38-12.51, marked a and b in the table. As you can see, repeating the
test after some time with the
ac adapter plugged in gave me results which are comparable to maverick.

Thanks a lot to all contributors to this very long bug report!

[Bug 760131] Re: Power consumption raised significantly in natty

2011-10-27 Thread piccobello
@Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote on 2011-10-25:#229

thanks a lot, however I did test the new kernel from natty-proposed, it does
not solve the problem for me.
It does marginally improve over 2.6.38-11.50, but it is still a major
regression compared
to 2.6.35-28.50. For me the problem is not only reduced battery life, but also
increased
cpu temperature (easily above 70C) which makes it difficult to work, and of
course is
not good for the cpu. I'm now running some extensive tests with powertop,
discharging
the battery completely, which will take some time, I'll post the results here
asap.

[Bug 481536] Re: k3b fails to burn larger dvd images (about 4gb) when using wodim

2011-09-30 Thread piccobello
I have exactly the same problem.
I'm using Kubuntu Natty, and there still is no repo of the cdburning group.
As soon as it's there I will check if the problem persists with cdrecord.
This bug should be reopened.

[Bug 481536] Re: k3b fails to burn larger dvd images (about 4gb) when using wodim

2011-09-30 Thread piccobello
I can confirm that cdrecord from cdrtools-3.01 has no problem in burning the
large image.
Unfortunately the cdburning group seems to have stopped releasing packages a
long time ago..???
I do not want to dive into what seems to be a long lasting dispute among
developers and package releasers,
but it would be good to at least reopen this bug..
Can anybody let me know what information is necessary? Thanks a lot

[Bug 769274] Re: Phonon default capture device preferences are not saved

2011-07-24 Thread piccobello
installing pavucontrol did not solve my problem.
I have a 5.1 setting but the subwoofer is disabled every time.
It disables somehow from one song to the next in Amarok
I have to change settings in Configuration panel of pavucontrol, then
change it back to 5.1, but it resets again to some sort of 5.0 with
the next song.
Sound used to work so well, I never had a problem with Kubuntu sound
before. In 10.4 I could set everything via the mixer with no problem.
I'm getting seriously tired of having to reinvent the wheel everytime I do an
upgrade.

[Bug 775624] Re: Screen brightness slider has no effect

2011-06-01 Thread piccobello
I have the same problem since natty upgrade, on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-T5
Also Fn keys for screen brightness stopped working, they used to work out of
the box in Lucid.
Volume up/down/mute Fn keys work as usual.
I do have a /sys/class/backlight/panasonic/brightness that can be manually
changed,
and that works.

I did look into ACPI events a long time ago, but I have a feeling a lot changed
since then,
so any hint about where to look first would be appreciated. Actually I did not
even get
how to run acpid with -d option with the new upstart system.

[Bug 791458] [NEW] screen brightness control (fn + F1/F2 keys, or KDE power management) do not work any more in natty

2011-06-01 Thread piccobello
Public bug reported:

brightness setting used to work out of the box in Lucid
they stopped working in maverick (I believe)
they still do not work in natty

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04

Possibly related to acpi-support?
$ apt-cache policy acpi-support
acpi-support:
  Installed: 0.138
  Candidate: 0.138
  Version table:
 *** 0.138 0
500 http://be.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What I expect (and used to work in lucid):
Brightness changes:
-when plugging/unplugging AC adapter
-when using Fn+F1/F2 key combinations

What happens: none of the above, brightness stays fixed.
Also the slider control in Power Management tray app (KDE) has no effect

What I can still do:
change brightness manually as :
echo 15 /sys/class/backlight/panasonic/brightness

My laptop: Panasonic Toughbook CF-T5

Any hint is appreciated!

[Bug 666782] Re: filtering in klipper 4:4.5.1-0ubuntu8 does not work

2011-04-28 Thread piccobello
What happens now is that:
-if I start typing a letter that is underscored in the menu, that option is
selected (eg c - Configure)
-if I type another letter, the first item in history starting with that letter
becomes the current clipboard content, and the klipper menu disappears This
sounds like a new (undocumented) feature, however I really preferred the
previous (documented) filtering behavior.

[Bug 195772] Re: please upgrade python-matplotlib to version later than 0.90.1

2009-01-26 Thread piccobello
@wegfwe432:

I got the same error whenever I run help('modules keyword').

RuntimeError: Could not find the matplotlib data files

I did two things, which somehow fixed the problem for me:

1) sudo ln -s /usr/share/matplotlib/mpl-data/ /usr/lib/python2.5/site-
packages/matplotlib/mpl-data

this gave me another error, which I realized was due to some initialization of
the matplotlib module
trying to write to a file
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/matplotlib/matplotlib.conf

2) run python as sudo, and import matplotlib

now I don't get that error anymore.. sorry I did not find a more suited
place to write about this..

[Bug 111606] Re: Totem does (mostly) not display video output on external monitor

[Bug 36014] Re: kernel can't scale cpu frequency

2006-11-27 Thread piccobello
I finally upgraded to dapper, and I do NOT have any problems :), scaling
works fine as before, as well as everything else.

I have a Thinkpad X31 2673-CBU , with Intel Pentium M (Banias) 1.4 GHz.
My kernel is now:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ uname -a
Linux host 2.6.15-27-386 #1 PREEMPT Sat Sep 16 01:51:59 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

[Bug 71781] japanese user guide

2006-11-14 Thread piccobello
Public bug reported:

parted-doc 1.6.21-1ubuntu3 contains only the japanese userguide
(file USER.jp). there should be instead
one of the guides listed here:
http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/manual/ .

it does install the info package though, but I guess the purpose of *-doc
packages is to also add some text/html
manual in /usr/share/doc/ .

package parted itself does not contain any guide

** Affects: parted (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
